I think he meant, if any of the things we were taught in school are being used in our daily work schedule. A lot of graduattes did not study what they wished, some frustration of jamb led them to study any course so as to leave home and the pokenosing society* you know what I mean* most teaching today are not trained teachers, some read Elect or mech engineering and are in the bank, stock exchange, how ahas the fluid and protons helped them in the banking sector? Sunnypar: It still doesn't mean education is a waste of time n resources. Peeps may not be working with what they studied in school but they still need their certificates because you never can tell what opportunities awaits you in the future. U can never compare an ordinary artisan to an educated graduate who due to joblessness became an artisan. The difference is always clear. 4 Likes |

Sunnypar: Dangote, a self employed entrepreneur with minimum basic eduction who proved that business success is usually through the strength of the mind and perseverance and not necessarily by obtaining Harvard -Oxford certificates or first class academic qualification. His managerial skill s surely is the envy of most economic professors. I understand the perspective you are talking from but not everybody can be Dangote or Bill gates. It takes someone with good business sense to survive in the business world. Your certificate makes it balanced. Find your passion and that does it for you. 4 Likes |

Sunnypar: Sunnypar: Good question. Education in Nigeria is a waste.... How many of the dy/DX have we used? How many of the find x have we used?....... How many if us are using our certificate to work? They way forward is be like the rich criminals. Sunnypar: The statement is very unfortunate, I guess you are not a teacher. 4 Likes |

Sunnypar: Graduates can not survive on certificates alone, we have alot to learn from sucessful businessmen, traders, artisans, leaders and professionals who did not have the luxury of acquiring university education. 3 Likes |

fumstar: You can never compare the functionality of the education acquired on the job, from the street and in the market place with the theoretical knowledge we get from our Ivory towers. Sucess can only come if we learn to marry the theoretical knowledge with what the industry/market place needs coupled with the right attitude and personal affinity for success. With all these, I will never regard my education as a waste of time and resources. In fact I am learning everyday " Let us never be betrayed into saying we have finished our education, because that would mean we had stopped growing". Julia Gulliver 4 Likes |

ILuvMerije:Fine. Work on your CV and the way you send applications matters. An application letter and your CV in a brown envelope.... Don't give it to the gateman, tell them you cane to see the principal as the case maybe. You need learn interview session, how to answer questions and micro teaching. I read here about a seminar maybe they would hold another one this year. |

Permit me to lend my layman's view to the ongoing discussion... First and foremost, what is education? It's the process by which one acquires KNOWLEDGE & INSTRUCTION. The problem with most graduates is that they don't seem to even understand the concept of acquiring knowledge. If not, why should someone ever imagine that he wouldn't make it in life if he isn't educated? Or that he would make it in life by becoming educated (especially studying a particular course). Therein lies the whole misconception about 'Being educated in this country' Acquiring formal education will only increase one's knowledge, broadens one's scope, develop one's intellectual mind, and shapes one's perception (reasoning). However, the sad truth is that being educated is not (and has never been) a guarantee that one would make it in life. Lemme clarify with this quote by Napoleon Hill, he said and I quote; 'There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose. The knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it.' Furthermore, the major reason why most graduates still haven't achieved their desired success has been summarised by Albert Einstein. He said 'Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking' Now let's be sincere with ourselves, have we really been using our brain optimally? Don't most of us (Including myself) depend on what we were taught at school? Or better still what we read in books. In conclusion, whoever will succeed in this Nigeria of today (No matter the person's educational background) must first identify his calling. Follow his passion and then, be ready think outside the box. But again, what does a layman like me know? 9 Likes 4 Shares
