I'm not even south African and I feel insulted for them that BBC had the audacity to compare south Africa to Nigeria. What an insult to South Africa. Even comparing Somaliato Nigeria is an insult to Somalia. There's not BBB one country in Africa Nigeria is on their level, not one. That useless country is a blemish in the face of Africa. I wish Boko Haram would just get rid of it already

Nigeria is the big brother of all African nations. Forget about our predicament. Even Mandela, Mbeki and Zuma knows this fact.

why do people even compare Nigeria and South Africa. It's not even close, South Africa beats Nigeria in all categories including GDP per capital (which is what should have been used in the article instead of total gdp).

Fact is South Africa is still dominate figure in Africa and Nigeria needs to stop playing around and catch up. I'm Nigeria but Nationalism or not, Nigeria that has oil, minerals and a large tax population of 180 million is still behind a nation of 50 million tax population and little natural resources after so many decades is nothing to be proud about.

yes Nigeria is developing, but when you look at Nigeria's large national budget and compare it to average South Africa, then compare the slow rate and pace of development in Nigeria and compared to the rapid pace of southafrica.

Ask yourself who is actually better of. Fact is this thing called Nigeria has to change. There is nothing worse than blind nationalism.

The west is our problem, always looking for ways to cause problems and rivalry plus hatred between Africans, why the comparison?, why not find similarities between these two nations to unite them.
White people are just Devi.ls.
This people look for any means to advocate hatred between even among african. what is the benefit of the comparison to our economy?

Truth be said, Nigeria has brighter future in compare to South Africa. We might be behind now but I see us filling the gap very soon. The number of problem Nigeria faces here, South Africa can't withstand half of it. I only blame our leaders for holding us behind. I pray Buhari do the needful and save our good name. #IBealiveInNigeria*

South Africa needs to refund all the money Nigeria spent to educate them during the Apartheid era, in order to have a proper bragging right. We didn`t just educate them around the world, but also brought them to our higher institutions to educate them, at a time our universities were some of the best in the world. And that is on top of financing their guerrilla fighters around the world They would never have been able to take over from their white masters if we had abandoned them when they were begging us on their kneels. Who is comparing dad and his son? The problem is, when you don`t get the balance of leadership right many rubbish will catch up with you. Everything South Africa is excited about today is handed over to them by somebody. Wait for another 20 years to see where South Africa would be
Anyway, where you have BBC and the World Bank discussing anything Nigerian, their job is to devalue and degrade. Truth is, there is nothing to compare between a grand old dad that has come to wisdom through life experience and a son born with donated silver spoon in his mouth celebrating some flashes in the pan.

South Africa shud teach Nigeria application of science. I am sure, Nigeria will then teach the rest of Africa via Igbos. Thus Africa will be like Europe in technological advancement in 15years. Trust me

Well signs that point to danger are there....but loosing it, not yet. In some sectors actually SA is growing very strong.

When is "very soon"?

I'm not sure what you actually mean - the best will be for each nation to work towards betterment of society and advancement in all spheres of life rather than comparing.

It is highly unlikely that SA will be surpassed in many indexes of development by any African country - it will take rather a very long period for that to happen.

Take for instance the energy sector. Soon SA will be producing up to 55000MW of electricity - which other African country can do that in the next 20years?
