Silence!!! Black slave. He can't even type properly , all he writes is gibberish. The only reason you are afraid of women is because you know deep in your heart they are above you or maybe you are just very small down there wink. Hehhehe!

MarieSucre:
Under the contract of employment, I got to realize that the
Labour Act made laws that make women enjoy certain rights
and privileges protecting them from harm and dangers such
as maternity leave; no woman is allowed to work
underground (mining); no organization should employ a
woman to work at night (in exception to those in medical
field, doctors and matrons). Lastly, women are allowed to
work as Law Enforcement agents but are not allowed to go
to war front.

Are you saying that maternity leave is not right? Have you been to the labour room before to even full understand the extent of what the leave is being granted for?
The laws for mining, night work and working in the war front are laws similar to one's held earlier in the century that stated that no women can be doctors, lawyers, preachers, be able to vote, or even hold down steady employment. But as you can see most of the above have been rescinded and women have been able to break through most of these occupations. In Israel for example women battle in the war front as well as men. During the Biafra war, women soldiers were recorded.
But there is one point you deceptively omitted. That all these laws are set and enforced by men.

tosyne2much
Let me tell you something, you and I know that women are the weaker sex even though you try to shy away from the truth. And the fact that much is expected from men clearly shows these two genders are not equal. The truth of the matter is that men are hierarchical in leadership in every sphere of life

How you ever wondered why women are not allowed to participate in heavyweight boxing? However, even though women participate in wrestling, have you ever wondered why they are given minor role to play? Lastly, have you ever wondered why men are sent to life imprisonment when they rape the ladies, but when a lady rapes a man such cruel judgement is not passed on her? These laws are man-made laws shey? I don't want you to tell me the answer

Now tell me, you deem it right to mouth-thrash a man for not being able to provide family basic needs but pat a woman on the shoulder for enduring such companionship?

My dear, let's not deceive ourselves over irrelevant argument cheesy

Gender equality is not part of our African tradition. Women must be subservient to men cos women are under men. We dont want gender equality, just the same way we dont want homosexuality. Let us follow our african values to the latter!
God bless u my son!time was in Jan of 2014, when we were screaming and shouting about the anti-gay bill, the women whipped out their bibles and Islamic Hadiths to condemn us to oblivion.what goes around comes around.freedom and justice really cannot be parceled out...

apologies to intelligent women here on nairaland, who saw the injustices and the looming calamity in mixing state and religion and also to my dear Chimamanda Adichie, your great efforts in moving this nation forward and standing for the truth shall never be in vain and is already recorded for posterity.

Point of correction Women also do boxing as a sport. Muhammad Ali's daughter Laila Ali is a renowned female boxer.

As for rape, I have never heard of life imprisonment for rape except if the rapist also murders the victim. And I fully support equal punishment for equal crimes(between genders). You see!! Can you see!! This is is one of the things we need to change not just for women but also for men.

And yes. These are MAN-MADE laws in the literal sense. Here is why? You said and I quote
" How you ever wondered why women are not allowed to participate in boxing?" Who are those not allowing them? MEN!
"However, even though women participate in wrestling, have you ever wondered why they are given minor role to play?" Who is giving them minor roles? MEN

Its men who go around saying women are weaker and we should not embellish it(your words). It is men who now use this mentality to now classify what women can and cannot do. Not Women. But Men.

It is true that physiologically men generally have better upper body strength than women. But there are women who have been able to meet up to this standard and excelled in fields that have been formerly exclusive. But why the insistence by some men to paint all women with one brush thereby blocking the access for all because of backward prejudices about our gender. Not all women can do. But if she is willing and able then get out of her way, let her do it.
This is just like saying because Africans were tying leaves and illiterate when the Europeans first came, then the Europeans will now write off all Africans. Would we have progressed?

Do you know that statistics show over 80% of the world's farmers are women? Go to your village to confirm. We do back breaking work all day under the sun, all over the globe and yet we're still treated like minors. We fvcking feed the world. What is greater?

It is true that there is societal pressure on men as regards upkeep. That is why you need to support is so we can support you and spread that burden so the world can progress.

Sometimes I ask myself, "what else do you people want?" Certain laws are made (both constitutional and religious) to protect women against harm and life dangers even more than the male folks;

Just as Rapmoney opined that the sole purpose of the agitation of gender equality is more than what we think. It's just to turn the nation in a state of discombubation making men look like they don't know what they have been doing so far

God Himself, the creator of earth, deliberately made women restrain from certain things cos He knows that women are naturally proud and bossy and won't be able to handle such amount of mantle of leadership given unto men.

Now ask yourself, "why do the larger proportion of women who are richer than their husbands tend to the bossy and fail to succumb under his authority? it's normal for a woman to slap a man but when the man retaliates hell is lose.

As I said earlier, as far as this is Nigeria, nothing good will come out of this gender equality but commotion against these two genders. A law which will give gold-diggers an opportunity to torment the lives of their husbands and will file a court case seeking divorce so that half of what the man has laboured for will be given to them

So you want to be given an opportunity to go to war front and fight against Boko Haram ? Gender equality my foot cheesy

You are already making my point. There was a time that European countries were extremely patriarchal and misogynistic.
good that you know.
There were official laws on how to sell your daughter if you wish, beat your wife. Women were not allowed to vote or be voted for.
you people always forget that most men too were discriminatd based on means.eg property and income.
There were not allowed to be professionals e.g Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer etc.
they were not ready at the earliest revolutions.
The European women had no opportunity. I made a point earlier. Its just like banning girls from going to school then 20 years later asking why there are no female professors? That's silly.
there was never a time in europe when they banned females from going to school.
Why are there no as many African scientists as there are European scientists?
europeans brought abt western educatin in africa.so how do u expect that before
How then you do you expect the European women to spark a revolution?
you can answer that.
Do you think white women just woke up and started proving themselves useful? Can someone suddenly make themselves useful to people who don't care. They did not just have their rights handed to them. They fought for it. Read about Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Read about the female suffragettes.
for sure they fought culture and law.but Nigerian women has neve fought the culture and law.but always ranting.
The point of this is that the European men no longer go around saying backward shit about women because that the way religion or society lays it. They actively try to make it stop. That's how slavery ended. That's why racism is receding. The Scandinavian countries Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium etc have one of the best grades on gender equity. And that's where people like to run to. Their economy is also superb.
for sure bt not because of gender equality.

Nigerian culture is flexible(Thank God) but we need to acknowledge that there is an issue with our gender relations and stop being evasive.
we are progressing and that a step forward..

Can you tell me how the system has failed women cos the last I checked boys and girls are given the same opportunity from a young age? They attend the same schools, have the same tutors, do the same exams etc.? And when it comes to employment opportunities, it's far easier for women than men. Women just can't compete with men - that's the honest truth. And even if they were to pass this bill, it won't change anything cos men will always outperform women.

Now compare it to race where blacks and whites are culturally different and the system is more favourable to you depending on ya shade. Then you've the generational bridge where whites are far richer than blacks and the schools in black communities are the worst schools. However, in cases where blacks and whites are given the same opportunities - the black kids always outperform the white kids. That's a fact and you can confirm that in any middle/upper class environment.

Leave race out of it.
U are a joker. the same black that turned Detriot a city built by whites to Ghetto in less than 60yrs.show me a majority black country that is worldclass.

Lol @ modern contemporary times. But when it comes to race, You were talking about Imhotep shocked How about you discuss race since lets say after jim crow or apartheid? Keep deceiving yourself.

The example you are citing from politics does not make any sense. Nuland, Hilary did not hold any position of authority. If a man was in the position of Nuland, tell me what he would have done differently. If you want to talk about female incompetence, Please cite the ones that actually hold positions of Authority

How about you compare Schröder to Merkel , Lagarde to DominiqueStrauss-Kahn, Barra to Akerson , Rometty to Palmisano etc

Those are powerful women that will match their record with their male counterparts any day. Stop comparing them with bureaucrats who are mouth pieces and foot soldiers of different administrations.
Lol. Why do always read backwards and conflate issues? African woman syndrome, no?

I cited "Imhotep" to show you that you can't label black folks as being inferior intelligence to white folks, when a black man everything education/intellect is judged by today was started by a black man, from medicine, to science, to astronomy etc. After that, I proceeded to cite examples of the greatness of the black moors in the middle ages and how they're responsible what's known today as western civilisation cos without them, white folks would still be in dark ages. Then concluded with modern (contemporary) by citing how AA geniuses are responsible for a lot of things the US is known for today and the black Nigerian kids from Peckham who're the youngest ever to pass GCSEs. I gave you three layers of black greatness (prehistoric/ancient, medieval, and modern)...and if you're going to start bringing Imhotep up, why not give me three layers of female greatness in terms of outperforming males?

Oh, Nuland and Hilary Clinton were just robots, despite both holding two of the most important positions in US foreign policy, no? If the positions aren't positions of authority - I don't know what authority is then. Keep deceiving yourself. grin

A man would never have said "Fvck EU" carelessly the way crazed and emotional Nuland did it. Even the hawkish cyborg, John McCain, wouldn't do that on his worst day.

You can't compare Schröder to Merkel. While Merkel is a US puppet, Schröder was never anyone's puppet and he was responsible for getting Germany back to where it's today...and Merkel is destroying that. And Dominique Strauss-Kahn, despite the scandals, will forever be light years ahead of Lagarde in everything.

Must they rule?
Aren't they satisfied with being ministers and law makers? angry

**modified** I just had to bring this post foward.

Equal rights Equal rights yet they would be the one to always ask for help in the most mundane ish.

Equal employment opportunities yet they would ask for 6months maternity leave, heartbreak leave and if care is not taken, they would ask for menstrual cramps leave!

Equal rights yet a man is crucified before the world and press the moment a lady accuses him of rape, without even hearing his side And if tables are turned the man (victim) is mocked!

Equal rights yet a man is expected to always be the provider in a home, and in a situation where the man lags behind, he is called a lazy man, nobody calls the woman that!

Equal rights yet in dire emergency situations women and children are carried to saftey 1st. And the men maybe later.

Where do I start and where do I stop?
God will punish the next mouth that shouts equal rights. Wether owned by a man or woman!!!
My brother, I understand exactly where you are coming from and I agree with what you have said but you have to understand that this is Nigeria.

Women are still treated as second class citizens in this country. There are people that believe that women are subservient to men. This is not so.
The bible says that all men (that is men and women) are equal in the eyes of the lord. None of God's creation is worth more than another. It's the same way in the past whites believed that black people are subservient to them. One cannot choose their race or sex. No one should be discriminated along those lines.

You also have to understand that gender equality is not something that should benefit just women. We have to change our attitudes. In this country, if a woman reports a rape accusation people will not take her seriously. People will even say that it is her fault she got raped. If we have this kind of attitude how on earth will people then take men who are rape victims seriously? The same goes for domestic violence. People don't take women seriously when they say their husbands beat them so how will people take seriously men that are abused by their wives?

True gender equality means that both men and women are treated fairly in the eyes of the law. True gender equality means that women and men will serve equal amount of time in prison for the same crime. Men should not spend more time in jail because they are men. It is not fair. True gender equality means that men too are within their rights to request for paternity leave. It is not only the woman that loves the child or that can take care of a child. True gender equality means that in a household both the man and the woman should work to earn an income especially in this harsh economic climate. It is not possible or fair for a man to be the only one feeding the whole family because of our backwards cultural values. And if any parent wishes to stay at home or cook it is also their choice. It is not only women that cook. The best chefs in the world are men.

Sorry for this long write up but I just want you to understand that the idea of gender equality in this country is misunderstood. It is not a bad thing and I'm sad the bill did not get passed. This is not only a sad thing for women but also for men.

Even in the issue of women presidents, that is not the fault of gender inequality or sexism. Equal opportunity will not always give equal outcome. If any successful, hardworking woman with a vision decides she wants to run for president no one will stop her. It is just that no woman in this country has such vision yet. The most successful and rich black woman on earth is a Nigerian. If she wants to run for president she can. It is just that she has shown no interest.

If only more women in this country had an attitude like Malala Yousafzai there would be progress. Rather people are more interested in make ups and how to marry the richest husband.

Sure.. But as long as your husband is a man and you submit to him, A man is Superior to you. It's just what Nature has ordained right from the Beginning!
Submission doesn't mean inferiority mister!! Its just an act of respect .. Which is after all reciprocated, he will respect me in accordance as well.

But saying a man is superior than a woman is nothing but a stupid assumption.. Yes! Assumption!
A man is not superior to me, no man ever is!
Come to my side and talk this trash, you will find yourself to be blamed..
When asked what exactly makes a man 'superior' .. You all will jump to say 'physical strength'

Nothing dumber! .. You can claim your Superiority to your wife if she doesn't mind, but tagging along all woman..that's gross stupidity.

I wondered when you would start getting angry at some of these men! You've been so patient! If I could give everyone of your posts a 1000 likes, I would! Honestly, do these men realize that the person who bore, birthed and nourished them is a woman? One even called women bitxhes. Yeah - like your mama?

When they say that Nigerian women haven't achieved anything....have they so soon forgotten about the Nigerian female doctor who was hailed a hero for her fast thinking actions on curbing the spread of Ebola? If she hadn't acted when she did and that horrible disease exploded in the country, how many of the men opening their dirty mouths here saying that no woman is equal to him would still be alive?

Thank you MariSucre for pointing out that if people want to use the bible for justifying female inequality, they should also use it to justify the death penalty for fornicators, and embrace slavery amongst the many other barbaric practices that book seemed to encourage (including human sacrifice)

Thank you for pointing out that the same arguments some of these men are employing can and has been used to justify racism and their own inferiority to caucasians. How well is the Nigeria run by men performing on the world scale? How constant is your electricity, and water; your job prospects and security o ye superior men? Or are you going to blame women for that too?

And as for the one asking exactly how women are disenfranchised in Nigeria, please tell me you are not that ignorant. Were you under a rock when the #beingfemaleinnigeria was circulating? Are you okay with the fact that an old man can marry a 13 year old? And if that 13 year old was your sister, would you still be okay with it? Are you ignorant to the stats of sexual assault? Violence against women? Are you okay with men beating up their wives? Female genital mutilations? Gender disparity in pay? The list goes on! Please get your head twisted on straight.
