Senate Defers Passage Of 2016 Budget To Tuesday by Amaudeogu(m): 1:03am On Mar 17, 2016
ABUJA — CONTRARY to its earlier promise to pass the 2016 budget today, the Senate, yesterday, gave next Tuesday as the day the document would be passed. The Red Chamber, which had also earlier assured that its Committee on Appropriation would lay the various reports of committees collated before it during yesterday’s plenary, could not adhere to the promise.

Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, told newsmen that the budget would be formally laid before Senate during today’s plenary, adding that the 2016 fiscal document would be deliberated and passed next Tuesday.

He added that after passage, the National Assembly would subsequently transmit the budget to President Muhammadu Buhari before proceeding on Easter break for onward presidential assent.

Ndume did not, however, disclose the day the two chambers of the legislature would begin the Easter break. Vanguard gathered that the two chambers have agreed on next Tuesday as day to proceed on the break.

Also speaking to newsmen on the issue, Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity Affairs, Abdullahi Sabi, assured that the budget would be laid today, even as he evaded question on when it will be passed.

He said: “I want to assure Nigerians that the 2016 budget will be laid in the Senate chamber as promised by the Chairman of Appropriation Committee.

“We are not unmindful of the date set for the passage, but we want to give Nigerians a budget that is acceptable, implementable, and that will actually drive the key policies of this government with respect to the change agenda.

“All is almost set for the laying of the 2016 budget tomorrow (today) in the Senate. As we had promised Nigerians and with that, one or two processes that are required will take place and we will have our budget as promised.

“This has put to rest any suspicion of what is happening. I am here to inform you that tomorrow (today), God sparing our lives, the 2016 budget would be laid by the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee.

Hope they've removed all the 'paddings' in the budget..

If the budget is clean then let them pass it already so Nigerians can begin to see and feel the Change or Chain (as the case may be) that we were promised.... We are tired of waiting!!!!!

Or fellow nairalanders are you not tired of waiting?!

Saraki is showing the executive that he is not a learner when it comes to power game.

If they do not postponed the CCT trial indefinitely, he will still delay the budget of yams as another excuse may still be given on Tuesday why the budget of corruption will not be pass before the Easter break.

Anyway, i am enjoying the power game.

Buhari has to come and represent the budget.
as a failure, buhari has failed with stealing the budget money!
he has failed with padding the budget too.
he should come and drink cold kosai and humbly bow before the gallant senate president again for consideration.
if not?
hmmmm

So Buhari still wants to go ahead with that budget instead of withdrawing it, the most fraudulent budget in the history of Nigeria. Then why did he sack the D.G of the budget office as if he is not the architect of the fraud.
Buhari should stop deceiving himself that he is fighting corruption, his ways are not pure at all.

guy your head day there. this is the first I am seeing someone who understands the game that has been going on with our budget. Saraki has been holding unto the budget as his bargaining power before FG. but like I keep saying when is tired, he will let go of the budget and then face his case.

Saraki should continue the cat & mouse game, however it won't solve his CCT problem, the case will be adjourned either ways, their is no way Judgement will be passed tomorrow, so passing the budget isn't sine qua non to the progress of his case.....

As for the unintelligent that will applaud this & go gaga thinking he is shafting the executives, Noooooo , he is messing with una destiny cos nothing will move..

The Stimulus the economy needs will happen ONLY when the budget is implemented...

Praying for the nation to fail or calling it a zoo won't help in any way, Saraki & his co travelers are the people holding una to ransom but we know hatred blinds & deafens.. cool

Think. Think about this. Did Saraki commit a crime or not? If he did, is it right or wrong to prosecute him?

Yes, a foool knows that nothing will have been heard if Saraki had not stepped on toes, but shouldn't we that bear the pain of the recklesses of the polithievians be happy that GOD in his infinite mercy is finding a way to put those idiotas against themselves?

Shouldn't you be hoping and praying the polithievians corrupt tendency keeps making them expose themselves for our own good?

What do you think you stand to benefit if the budget is not passed or what exactly is your happiness in this?

What are they deliberating in a budget premised on fraud? That budget has lost the confidence of conscious Nigerians. It should be sent to the Senate bin where it truly belongs while Buhari and his boys should be summoned to explain their various role in an attempt to smuggle the greatest heist ever known to the blackman.

Saraki, you don't know how long you will live on earth, remember okadigbo, ewerem, wabara and most recently Mark David. Stop holding the country to ransom because of your CCT issue.

You will surely not be the senate president forever, do the right thing. All the prayers of the Ulamas are hanging between the sixth and seventh heaven , because God is ominipotent.
Prayers have been held at the scared mosque in the old central mosque and at the Eid ground, yet the CCT trial continues , pause and ask yourself, who created me and who direct my affairs, you are nothing but a number in the sight of GOD.
Remember : Kullun nafusin sayiqwati Li molti!!

I am pray everything ends well for you in your old age.

I think this budget should be passed not later than the said Tuesday, and yes even with all d padding, Nigerians are suffering...

U can't be blaming buhari for the present state of this nation, and still support the SP for holding the budget to ransom because of his CCT case...

I got bad news for him, #BuhariNoDeBend
