Sequel to the post on “How to sell a used car”, I feel obliged to also be the buyer advocate in order to sensitize buyers of Nigerian used cars the things to look out for when making a purchase. 4 Likes |

Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by GAZZUZZ(m): 3:49pm On Mar 14, 2016 |

Another thing u need 2 note when buying a Nigerian used vehicle r d documents 2 demand of d seller and these includes Allocation of registration no, Prove of ownership certificate, Vehicle license. Purchase reciept signed by d 2 parties, A draft out of change of ownership dat authorizes d new owner 2 go on with d proper change of ownership. 2ndly, u need 2 check d vehicle license and ensure dat it's valid 2 avoid paying 4 wot u did not use. My experience in vehicle documentations : a lot of people have come 4 change of ownership and when dey r asked 2 bring d vehicle documents dey were given by d seller, u will be surprised at wot dey will present: VEHICLE license, road worthiness and insurance. And these r only d renewables and not d major documents. So dey will need 2 go through loss of vehicle documents b4 dey can process dere change of ownership and den replacement of no plate which will cost dem much more. Also some pple will come with a vehicle license dat has expired 4 maybe 4-5yrs and won't have any choice but 2 renew it up to date which means more expenses. My advice: check out 4 d validity of especially d vehicle license since it's auto-reg, if it's expired, deduct d price multiplied by d no of yrs from d agreed price of d said vehicle because it was d seller's duty 2 validate d documents. I hope dis helps. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Macmilla: Simply because it's a free service (visiting the office), does not mean a Thank you Brown envelope, would be rejected!!! |

Lexusgs430:Deal already flopped. I didn't need the tech guy to disqualify it for me cos it was bad enough for me to do myself. 2 Likes |

Lexusgs430:The engine somehow seemed to be in good condition. Very meet too. It ran well without any check engine light. But outside the engine, every other thing is |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Lexusgs430: 10:16am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Macmilla: No check engine lights, does it mean a code has not already been cancelled. Some unscrupulous sellers, would even disable the abs, check engine, vsa etc etc error lights |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Macmilla(m): 10:22am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Lexusgs430:I don't think so. It comes on when ignition is on and goes off when engine starts. That shows the system is intact. We took it for a drive and none appeared. Sound too was very smooth. The engine simply didn't match the deteriorated body and interior. |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Lexusgs430: 10:26am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Macmilla: Possibly not by this seller, but some sellers do. Maybe the engine has recently been replaced or repaired. |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Lexusgs430: 10:29am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Macmilla: Unfortunately some sellers don't understand the aspect of proper presentation. Spending a few naira tidying the vehicle, might just seal the deal!!! |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Macmilla(m): 10:35am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Lexusgs430:The only presentation that will make me seal that deal would involve a thorough body work, overhaul of the interior and other minor but NUMEROUS touches. That may be able t fool me. But then, I think I know how to detect a filler padded body. 1 Like |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Lexusgs430: 10:38am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Macmilla: If the seller is honest in their description, stating body work has been repaired and repainted. The buyer, can decide either to buy or run!!! |

Macmilla: But most vehicles on our roads, usually have traffic tribal marks. |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Macmilla(m): 10:48am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Lexusgs430:Exactly! But they prefer to hide the bad parts, hoping they can bamboozle u when u come. Or maybe cos I have come from a very far distance, he hoped I will just close eye and buy it. I refuse to be bamboozled and I'd rather waste 20k and have rest of mind than buy trouble with my money. 1 Like |

Macmilla: Did you read the thread about the guy requesting advise, before buying a Toyota Corolla? He went against all advise, bought the corolla and in the process, wasted N700k |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Macmilla(m): 11:15am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Lexusgs430:Eyaa. I just wasted 30k and my heart is broken. But at least, it's not up to 700k. |
Re: How To Buy A Nigerian Used Car by Lexusgs430: 11:21am On Mar 18, 2016 |
Macmilla: I am sure in comparison and retrospect, if he could turn back the hands of time. He would have preferred losing 30k and not 700k. His lose did not end at 700k, he spent more trying to fix the long list of problems and was seeking advice on either continue spending or sell the car!!! |
