scholes0: Try and imagine the extent the Benin empire stretched. I guess you are using todays Benin to gauge your view of that large and mighty Ancient Kingdom..It stretched all the way to present day Ogun state so that wall is part of the Ancient Benin Kingdom. 4 Likes |

doe: It was never part of the benin empire. Ogun has always been yoruba territory but the yorubas and binis used eko (lagos) as a trade, farming and shipment center. 6 Likes 1 Share |

MrLouisVanGaal: It never stretched to ogun or any other part of yoruba territory. The two tribes worked with each other so there is high possibility of using the same architecture and methods to build. 1 Like |

Obiagelli: That is an assumption. There is no evidence that that was a factor. They had contact with several foreign countries and empires. In 1897, the british attacked it with their heavy arsenal, destroyed it and stole all of their wealth. 1 Like |

And now the worst part is that some of the Bini people can't even speak their native language. Even my beloved babe can't! They had a very rich culture, yet lost everything in one swoop. |

5starmilitant: You are a dullard! Oba Ehengbuda died in battle in a bid to annex Owo. Since then, Obas stopped going to war. If Benin could not annex Owo, how can you rank it above ancient Ife, Ibadan, Oyo etc Yorubas have always lived in big, planned towns. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Ancient Bini people saw Yorubas as big brothers to be proud of. It's the modern ones that are trying to rub shoulders unnecessarily. What a shame! There are Yoruba traces (dressing/language/religion) in core Benin. But you can't find any trace of Benin in core Yorubaland. Also, many Binis can relate to Yoruba language. However, the larger majority of Yorubas dont even know what the Bini dialect sounds like. Come on!! 15 Likes 3 Shares |
