These skills, are they commercial experience or personal one? Most of your skills are quite old technologies sorry to say this but we have to be candid to ourselfs. Look at a cross-section of my CV Skills Summary: • Extensive knowledge of Java programming • Working knowledge of J2EE technologies • Working knowledge of J2EE EJB Servlet JSP JSF, JSTL, BPEL, Weblogic servers, Netbeans, Eclipse, JDeveloper, Tomcat, Apache, CMS, SAP and ERM, Distributed database, database, JNI, JNDI, XML, XHTML, JavaScript, .NET framework, C#, C, Python, Shell Script • Comprehensive understanding of operating systems: UNIX, Windows and Solaris • Working knowledge of MS 9x & 2000 Office packages: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Lotus, coral I have had 5 years commercial experience on these field. This is just my old CV. My new CV has got 10 years commercail experience on newer technologies. This is what you need to post for a prospective reader interested in you to call you for a job opportunity. Also look at my duties in a cross-section of my CV. Work Experience: 1998 - 2004 Digital Systems Ltd, London Job Title: Java Developer Duties: • Was responsible for providing Business requirements analysis and protocol design • Software support for ordering system, trading and operation team • Developed web applications using Java Technologies • Implemented J2EE applications development and support • Handled Enterprise Javabean, coding and testing Servlets using Java • Coding JSP using JSTL and providing middleware for oracle database access. • Employed the use of HTML/XML/XMLT/XHMLT coding and UI designs. • Providing Web Archive and EAR to assembler department • Helping to implement security roles on each web resource • Use of Eclipse IDE and Refactoring methods for development and implementation • Unit Testing with Junit Framework I hope this will help you to restructure your CV. I think sbucareer's comments were excellent and of particualr note to me is the manner in which the extracts from his CV highlights his expertise in various software technologies & methodologies rather than individual programming languages. All too often, I think propspective candidates place too much focus in their CVs on one or more particular programming languages instead of pointing out a familiarity with the principles of OOP or J2EE for example. To put it another way, it's all well and good being a java developer but a significant number of employers are looking for specific experience of J2EE technologies and that is why I believe a CV like sbucareer's is more likely to grab their attention and Nigeria is no exception in this regard. In conclusion, I'm not saying that you should not mention knowledge of programming languages (because it is important) but that as is the case in sbucareer's CV, it should not be the only focus of your CV. |

Jachoz:You knowing the syntax of many programming language does not make you a good engineer at all because you are not a problem solver. Just let your algorithms be on point and try to solve complex problems with your software and I promise you will stand out. I know people that know syntax of many languages and can't even write their own compiler. |
