Why would any individual choose not to pay his / her fare, but also argue with Transport Police when apprehended? If he'd at least admitted his offence, say he forgot to purchase a valid ticket due to him rushing, ignorance etc. All that would have happened is he would have probably gotten a caution, and be made to purchase a ticket valid for his journey on the spot, or worse case scenario, a fine.

He opted instead to make a public spectacle, and disgrace himself. I have seen fare dodgers of all colour and race, but I'm yet to see any grappled with in this way, simply because they admitted their wrong, and offered to pay. Even those without funds on them to pay have either been allowed to go with a caution, or had their details taken. Then they have so many days' grace to pay. This guy chose the hard route. If it goes to court (as it most likely will) he'll have resisting arrest added to his offense, and most likely end up with a criminal record.

He will definitely be remembered - but for the wrong reasons.
