Can I Get Cars With Drive-by-wire systems In Nigeria? by nairaimporter(op): 8:35pm On Mar 20, 2016
I am a researcher in need of cars that can be automated with a computer. i.e a computer can be used to control steering, throttle and brake.

I know that a mechanical car can be converted to a fully drive-by-wire system, in-fact examples abound the internet.

Full drive-by-wire is described below:
The three main drive-by-wire technologies are referred to as:

Brake-By-Wire
Electronic Throttle Control
Steer-By-Wire

1. Can i find competent engineers to convert a normal car to full drive-by-wire car in Nigeria? Please if you know one please recommend.

2. If no 1 above is not possible, are there dealers of drive-by-wire cars?

3. Does anyone knows any partially or fully automated car models currently on sale.

Please help if you can.

P.S this website claims to do conversion http://torcrobotics.com/solutions/

Just like Nigeria the country you want to go from lantern and candles to nuclear power, why not get the gas generator to work first?

Why not just get a new luxury car and you have it automatically

I recommend Toyota Hybrid cars (for drive by wire throttle, brake and "partial drive by wire steering") . Try the prius or camry hybrid for your experiment.

For a very simple and non sophisticated drive by wire system, yes, you can find someone in Nigeria.

Is someone trying to give Boko-Haram new initiatives on how to carry out their bombings effectively? grin

Imagine a Toyota vehicle modified to drive-by-wire system, laden with kilos of C4 & rammed into the CBN edifice in Abuja or the Police HQ. grin

Thank you very much, i already know about the Toyota prius. Google's very own self driving cars first used the toyota prius about five years ago.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_self-driving_car#Technology
But now they manufacture their own cars. Some of the Prius models i found are electric(they use batteries). I am looking for a gasoline/diesel car. Maybe there is a gasoline model?

And yes i am going to make a self driving car that's better than google's and everyone else. I believe in the future when cars drive themselves, "driving" will be a skill that we will forget.

I have a limited budget for this research so i don't want to make a mistake with the car model i chose.

Thanks for replying, pls could you recommend auto repair shops in Nigeria that can convert mechanical cars to drive-by-wire?

No, self driving cars are the future. Like most new innovations, they have both their bad sides and good sides.

As far as i know, fear of terrorism has never stopped researchers from innovation. Proper regulation stops new innovation from being destructive.

There are several economic and social benefits self driving cars will provide
1. They will make car ownership accessible and usable to larger members of the public like aged, minors, disabled individuals etc.
2. They will free up human time so that our precious time and attention is not spent on the road rather doing the things we truly love doing.
3. In the future buying a car will be as easy as buying an I-phone or a samsung galaxy. Just walk into a shop and walk out with a car several times intelligent in driving than humans.
4. Professions like mining, business like logistics etc. Think, if all of Dangote's cement trucks were self driving? For the company, that would be economical and safer than having humans drive those gigantic trailers.
5. For example if the Lagos BRT system was fully automated how cool/safe will that be?
There are several other possibilities. What other ways can you think of that self driving cars will help you?

Thanks for your contribution
