Following backlashes which trailed his comments that the biting fuel scarcity across parts of the country would linger till May, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in a dramatic u-turn on Tuesday, said that the long queues in the country’s petrol stations would disappear on Monday, April 7, 2016.

Kachikwu who is also the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) disclosed this when he appeared before the Senate committee on Petroleum (Downstream) over the fuel scarcity ravaging the country. The Minister said: “By 6th or 7th April, the long queues in filing stations would disappear.” He apologized to Nigerians over his statement that the biting fuel scarcity will linger till May.

All of us to prisoners! Kachicku and Fashola is now prison gaurds! To apeal the judgement now is 2019. Imagine 4years imprisonment. God help us.

Kachikwu should shut up and do his job.
April 7 will come and go and problem continues.

Nigerians have heard this nonsense many times from him before.
Nothing is new under Buhari, Nigerians have witnessed all level of incompetence and lies from Buhari administration.
I keep wondering who is actually the faceless man occupying the ministry of petroleum
Re: Fuel Crisis: Queues To Disappear By April 7th- Kachikwu by Wallade(m): 4:52pm On Mar 29, 2016
Hmmmm. This Kachukwu is really not a diplomat.

It is OK to apologize for hurting the feelings of Nigerians with the careless statement earlier made by him. However, I don't think he had to put an effective date to the solution.

Why could he not just say: we are working on adequate supply of petroleum products in the country and elimination of queues at the various filling stations across the country sooner.
Re: Fuel Crisis: Queues To Disappear By April 7th- Kachikwu by omohayek: 4:55pm On Mar 29, 2016
Even if the queues vanish by April 7th, it will only be a matter of time until they reappear again. Nothing will change in the long run until the petroleum sector is deregulated and private investors are encouraged to come in, a change in direction Kachikwu and many others suggested in vain to Buhari.

Kachikwu's recent statements were perhaps inadvisable in as far as they might have encouraged speculative hoarding, but the major portion of blame for this situation really lies with Buhari's refusal to listen to sound advice. Much the same is true with the CBN and the Naira - Buhari's stubbornness and economic illiteracy are to blame for making the situation far worse than it might otherwise have been.

I taught he said he is not a magician to end the scarcity of fuel. He don't know his role as minister for petroleum for state, please sir always think about what to say before addressing journalist.

I wonder why he should be giving specific dates like this when a lot of factors are involved. So if April 7th comes and there is still scarcity then whatever he says afterwards will just be a huge joke. He needs to learn how to talk like a politician.

THIS SHOULD LIKELY BE THE REASON

Dr. Kachikwu, who is also the Group Managing
Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC), is to appear before the
Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) today to
state the steps being taken to stop the scarcity.
Committee Chairman Jibrin Barau told reporters after
an on-the-spot assessment of filling stations in the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that the invitation
became necessary following the hardship Nigerians
go through as a result of the scarcity.
He said despite assurances by the ministry that the
situation would be controlled, it had lingered. “We
have invited the Minister of State (for Petroleum
Resources) to appear before the committee tomorrow
(today) to tell us about the fuel scarcity and the
strategy he is employing to solve it.
“`[We will expect him to give a date when the problem
will be resolved permanently.]

please can someone tell me on what basis did he came about such conclusion. What exactly motivated his submission, because from what I'm observing, he's only alleviating the Mass disapproval of his earlier statement, thereby playing prank or deceiving Nigerians.

They should come out with facts and figures, exactly what they're doing to salvage the biting oil price, not just just come and give some random hypothesis that cannot be proved.
Re: Fuel Crisis: Queues To Disappear By April 7th- Kachikwu by onatisi(m): 5:23pm On Mar 29, 2016
Fuel queues will disappear by the 6th of April only to reappear by the 13th of April.
Smh for Nigerians ,Nigerians still have 3 more years of these torture to endure

This is not enough reason to allow the committee to box him into a corner. Giving dates in cases that presents a lot contingencies and factors, beyond Kachikwu's control, that can hinder his efforts. He will have himself to blame if this doesn't work out.
