santori:abeg leave trash for lawma..you clean your gutters and drainages everyday? Or you sweep your compound everyday?? Even in developed countries, they dont do jack.. They have dirt trucks that sweep the streets maybe every 3 or 4 days. See this one forming sanitary prefect. |

Fairgodwin:exactly my point, when will residents clean their gutters now or is govt taking up that responsibility? |

well, let's see how this works out. I've already posted a picture of Oshodi as a reference point for comparison. |

joey150:in my house , the compound is swept everyday and it's rotated among the tenants weekly, as for the gutter, whoever's turns to sweep the gutter also ensure the gutter is clean. those that are too busy to do this themselves pays sweepers to do it for them. besides this things are in your agreement paper for anybody wanting to rent an appartment in the house. as for the developed countries they don't joke with sanitation of the environment, infact you get sanctioned and fined for leaving your lawn overgrown talk more dirts littering your compound. with strict monitoring and sanctions , we don't need to declare an holiday to have our homes cleaned |

Brilliant move. |
| Re: Ambode Abolishes Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by joey150(m): 7:11pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
santori:good for you..it cant work if you live where i live.. The compound is too big for one single tenant to sweep..besides nobody would quit going to work for a day just to sweep. The compound is clean most of the times.. As there are just few kids..as adults if you throw your dirts in the bin. Everywhere would stay reasonably clean. For Nigerians that 3hrs compulsory break must stand.we havent gotten to that level of cleanlines to let everybody be. Besides its almost like a culture now. Ambode made a bad decison and i strongly urge him to reconsider. If every adult in lagos throws his daily purewater and gala in the bin.. Our sanitation levels would record an exponential increase. People litter the roads with whatever junk they buy on the way. That is the major problem |

Y people are the most dirty people on earth. Note: Y means yam, yoga, yo-yo, yours, yesterday but it doesn't necessarily mean Yoruba!86BC scope spotted! |
| Re: Ambode Abolishes Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by santori: 7:26pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
joey150:people litter the streets with junks because there's street trading all over the place. so eat while on the road and end up leave the rubbish on the road. those overly busy people still leave the house before environmental starts which means they are still not part of the sanitation exercise. Only a few ppl utilises the 3hrs to clean their house, majority busy themselves doing other things while it lasts. despite the weekly market environmental sanitation, the markets stilll remain dirty. it took the closing down of the markets by the government for the markets to become cleaner again the only effective way government can force the people to clean their environment is by strict enforcement and sections |

Good job, previous exercises didn't improve the situation. As oxygen is to living things so is dirtiness to lagosians. |
| Re: Ambode Abolishes Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by joey150(m): 7:45pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
santori:yes you are spot on with the enforcement. But then they wont sustain it. And everything would crumble and streets worse than before. In my area we do clean up during the sanitation.Infact the day after my street is usually sparkling. I save all d visitors for that sunday.lol |

Sunofgod:It is filthy because Nigerians are filthy. Nigeria is the only country I know that does this. Cleanliness is a way of life. You should not be told clean your surroundings. |

joey150:yeah sustaining the enforcement is a big issue |

santori:What is wole wole? Are we moving forward or backwards? We have passed that era please. |
| Re: Ambode Abolishes Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by santori: 10:57pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
Jimi23:do you really understand what wole wole means in yoruba? In case you don't know it means environment inspectors. Every sane country have sanitary officer to enforce environment sanitation. they have it in the US, they have in UK, they have it in sane climes. so what are you talking about those countries are not looking clean without strict enforcement of environmental sanitation. always get your facts right before you criticise |

Good riddance to a relic from the military administrations.
In a democracy freedom of movement ought to be adequately guaranteed.
Next in line is the lifting of the 'no movement' directive during elections. |
| Re: Ambode Abolishes Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by Jimi23(m): 11:20pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
santori:Keep writing your baseless epistle when Ambode already denied stopping the exercise. Know what dumb facts? For a fact, sanitary inspectors in the western world dont go knocking on people's doors like they do here. It is you who needs to get your facts right. |
| Re: Ambode Abolishes Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise by truthspeaks: 11:28pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
It said abolishing 'restriction of movement policy' and nt d sanitation itself. Meaning d sanitation wld hold bt thr can be free movement. OP stop misleading ppl emmalezy: |

Very good decision. Cleanliness should be a daily affair. We were just wasting man hours by shutting down the city for sanitation. The government should instead reactivate a sanitary unit in each local government. They can go round the neighborhood for inspection of houses and the environment. They can then penalize defaulters. That would be a more effective way to keep our houses and environment clean. |

santori:You're not answering my major concern of the proposed policy. I never disputed the benefits, my issue is how is the so called "daily sanitation exercises" enforced/monitored. You can not compare Nigeria to other countries (I presume Western nations you are referring to). There is a system in place. Local councils receive council tax from her citizens which is used to keep streets clean (also recycling measures) for example. These type of structures are yet in place in Nigeria. Hence my main reason why I believe this policy is too simplistic but I believe that there is more behind the policy that was not elaborated within the article. |

I doubt that this is a good decision plus the reason given is too shallow. My fear also is that this might bring back the operation 'wole-wole' of the 80s (routine checks whereby the officers will even ask you to bring out your pot of soup...at the end of the day they enrich themselves instead of the government) |
