Tau'bah - Seeking Forgiveness From Allah by Kunlexity(m): 5:08am On Mar 25, 2016
BismilLaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
It is the nature of mankind to be forgetful and to commit sins. However, Allah has given us the ability to rectify ourselves by turning to Him and begging for His forgiveness. Our mountains of evil deeds are nothing before the vast ocean of the mercy of Allah atakbeer (Praise Allah), ALLAHU AKBAR.
ALLAH has promised to forgive our sins as long as we regret for it and repent from it. Committing sins may make you sorrowful, depressed and deeply disappointed with yourself. But if you return to Allah with a few tears and beseech Him for mercy, He will certainly forgive you. There is no other door to knock to solve our issues. None can forgive sins except Him. He calls us to the abode of peace (Paradise); He is the Almighty who hides our faults and He alone can replace our bad deeds with good deeds. ALLAHU AKBAR.
The door of repentance is always open for a person until he dies or until the sun rises from the west, whichever comes first. When something is a necessity Allah provides it in abundance like air and water. Since we are always sinful and negligent of Allah and Satan and the self are always inciting us towards evil, therefore tau’bah is provided in abundance so we can turn back to Allah.
Allah has created a solution to every sickness even if it may be the poison of a snake. Satan and sins are a major sickness and the cure for it is in tau’bah and istighfar, crying in front of Allah with deep regret in the heart.
Whenever our tau’bah breaks we should make tau’bah again. Some people despair and think they are sinners and will go to Hellfire. Tau’bah is so powerful that it can take a person from the lowest levels of Hellfire and raise him to the highest levels of Paradise.
Allah (Subhanahu WaTaala), the Lord of Mercy, puts mercy in the hearts of every mother in the world by which they love and care for their children. We make mistakes but Allah overlooks our faults. Our worship and good deeds are not perfect but Allah accepts them and multiplies the reward.
Do not fall into minor sins. Minor sins leads to major sins the way a spark may start a fire and burn down a house. A believer should run away from sins as one runs away from a snake. Even a minor sin makes a true believer restless as if a mountain is above his head and is about to fall on him and crush him.
Make a U-turn in life, wash off your slate of deeds, eliminate the bad deeds and protect your good deeds.
Method of making Tau’bah:
One should make sincere tau’bah to Allah for one's sins. The requisites of tau’bah are the following:
1. To immediately abstain from the sin
2. To regret and wish one had never indulged in the sin.
3. To resolve to never commit the sin again
4. If one have violated the rights of another person it is necessary to seek forgiveness from that person

After making sincere tau’bah be confident in the acceptance of your tau’bah. Allah (Subhanahu WaTaala) is all-Merciful and all-Forgiving. He is always ready to accept the repentance of His sinful slaves. Allah says in Surah Al-e-Imran:
“And those who, when they have committed Fahishah or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins - and none can forgive sins but Allah - And do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know.” [Al-Qur’an 3:135] AlhamdulilLah.

Benefits of Tau’bah:
The Qur’an describes the story of Prophet Nuh (A.S),
"I said (to them): Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; He will send rain to you in abundance; And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers. " [Quran 71:10-12].
Whoever makes Tau’bah re-establishes his relationship with the Creator of the heavens and earth.

Misconceptions when committing a sin:
1. The person thinks that no one is watching.
Allah (Subhanahu WaTaala), the all-Knower and all-Hearer says in the Qur’an: “Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful” [89:14].
2. The person thinks that no one is near him. Allah (Subhanahu WaTaala), says in the Qur’an:
“Have you not seen that Allah knows whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth? There is no secret counsel of three, but He is their fourth (with His Knowledge), nor of five but He is their sixth (with His Knowledge), not of less than that or more, but He is with them (with His Knowledge) wheresoever they may be; and afterwards on the Day of Resurrection, He will inform them of what they did. Verily, Allah is the All-Knower of everything. “[58:7]
3. The person thinks that no one can find his action or intent.
Allah (Subhanahu WaTaala), says in the Qur’an: “Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the breasts conceal.”[40:19].
4. The person thinks that no one can catch him or punish him.
Allah (Subhanahu WaTaala), says in the Qur’an: “So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. “[89:25]“…Verily, His Seizure is painful, and severe.” [11:102].
May Allah forgive our sins. Aameen.

Imām Alī ibn Mūsā al-Reza (alayhi salām) said:
‘‘He who seeks forgiveness with his tongue but does not feel remorse in his heart has fooled himself.’
[Reference: Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 356, no. 11]

# The word "Tawbah" means "to return". Man by his fitrah (nature) is attached and closer to his creator, Allah. Sin(s) usually create distance between man and Allah. The more we sin, the more we are distant from Him. The only thing that get us back to that intimacy (to our Lord) is "Tawbah (Return)".

# There are various steps for the validity of "Tawbah":

* Recognition of sin(s)
* Feeling remorse for the committed sin(s)
* Vow never to return back to the sin
* Confession of the crime committed, giving back what is stolen or fixing what has been destroyed etc
* Seeking forgiveness of the Lord of the worlds
* Performing good deeds afterwards.

Lastly, DESPAIR is one of the grievous sin before Allah. His door of mercy is always opened for whoever is ready to enter.

Surah Zumar: 53 reads:
Say: O my servants! who have acted extravagantly against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah; surely Allah forgives the faults altogether; surely He is the Forgiving the Merciful.

Performing the Du'a is the easy part, abstaining from sin is more challenging especially now that we have a lot of temptations around us. Mak Allah guide us aright.

One important point we need to understand in the first place is that the existence of God cannot be proved in the same way you prove the existence of a physical object. This is simply because God is not a physical object. Any physical object is subject to your five senses. In simple terms, you can see, hear, smell, touch or taste a physical object. This is not possible in the case of God, as He (swt) is a Transcendental Being [existing on a level beyond our sensual perception].

There are people who argue that the only form of knowledge available to humans is experiential knowledge or experimental knowledge, gained primarily by the use of outer senses. This led to the belief that human beings are constituted in such a way that the knowledge of reality is always unavailable to them; and so it resulted in a renewal of attention to the everyday world of appearances. The knowledge of here and now became the only object of human knowledge and concern. Thus from this point of view, the project of seeking knowledge of reality behind appearances must be abandoned, because it is beyond the scope of human understanding.

Now think: Can’t there be a way of “being” [existing], that is not susceptible of being perceived by the limited capabilities of humans through their defective senses?

I hope that the implications of the two expressions I used above [‘limited capabilities’ and ‘defective senses’] are evident to any thinking person. The claim that something does not exist, because you haven’t seen or heard it, etc. is untenable. When we consider the limitations of our sensual perception and of our reasoning powers, it is not necessary that we understand everything. We can speak meaningfully about everything simply on the basis of our perception. So to speak of “proof” with regard to a Transcendental Being becomes irrelevant.

What we can do is to point out facts which lead to a constant and inescapable awareness of the presence of God. It is clear that logically we cannot rule out the possibility of more things existing than can be perceived by our senses or can be arrived at by our reasoning. As for Man, there are two dimensions to his existence: One of matter and the other of spirit.

Reduced merely to the level of material existence, Man becomes a machine, or a mere animal at best. But think of a machine that rebels against being a machine; or of an animal that refuses to be an animal. That is what man is! What is it that makes him rebellious, angry, disappointed, frightened or hopeful? What is his dimension that gives him his imagination, his artistic genius, his creative urge? Why does he have nightmares and sweet dreams?

It is not matter that does it; evidently it is his spirit that makes him so different from animals. So to base our knowledge of the world and our philosophy of life simply on the material side of our existence to the complete exclusion of the spiritual dimension, is undoubtedly faulty. The strength of Islam as a philosophy and as a way of life is that it does not separate man’s material life from spiritual life, and that it seeks a balance between the two dimensions of human existence.

We should understand that human spirit is a reality incommensurable with material realities, and that it owes its existence only to God. Thus dear brother, if we ponder over the phenomena of the world around us and over the complexities of our own existence, we are bound to conclude that God is the Reality behind all appearances. The Holy Qur’an says in Surah 2, verse 164, the meaning of the following:
*{Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which God Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- [Here] indeed are signs for a people that are wise.}*

That is to say the external signs we see in the universe should necessarily lead a wise person to the Ultimate Reality behind it all. And that is how we arrive at the realization that Allah Almighty is the Moving Power behind all life and all existence.

And Allah knows best.
