seunmsg:If i trump up charges of corruption against you, simply because you held a CEO or political position, how happy would you be if you're denied a fair hearing despite knowing that ur innocent. You see what goes around comes around. Just like the social media bill, it has good and bad sides. The Nigerian constitution doesn't give permission for a junta, it's for a democracy. |

Another Nigerian intellectual, a so-called legal luminary , capitulates on the rule of law, and instead, profers anarchy and jungle justice. What a great great shame. ![]() With people like this as our crop of the learned elites, Noooooo wonder we are still living in the jungle. shame shame shame. |

neocortex:then y dont the criminals u are backing seek for accelerated hearing and face the trial fair and square, head-on to prove themselves innocent and not a perpetrator, rather than seeking desperately court injuctions to either forstall or callously delay their trials into denail? and elderly old men who should be examplerary figures for truth and fair justice are throwing their hungry callous selves in droves claiming counsels to this swines, eating their feaces in public for corrupt paltry sums shamelessly in the name of practicing their profane style of justice evasion and seeking of criminal rulings from some already sick n corrupt shameless judges wit no iota or minute sense of dignity, practicing callous entrails at the expense of a ppls plight and a country's state of which u are a part of. oboy, be truthful 2 urself atleast for once..all their balbadash of fake rule of 'upside down law' in the face of all obvious evidences, bank statements and confessional statements, both chewed, unchewed and swallowed.. taa.. u lovers of looters should go and sit-down.. |

Trendishine:You obviously don't understand rule of law. It is the duty of the accused to defend themselves by every means at their disposal but an equally smart government will know how to prosecute successfully. Instead of formally charging the accused and presenting law-acceptable evidence, the EFCC is busy seeking for order to keep accused in custody. Even if they are remanded for a hundred years they are still innocent without conviction. Get this clear today, civil Justice is not about what you feel, it is about listening to both sides and determining who is right. But if you think , judgement should be delivered based on sentiment, I am sorry to tell you that it won't work in a civillized society, only in a jungle. |

When do we awake from this collective nightmare? If those that should be awake with knowledge, basking in the light of wisdom, yet sleep contentedly in the darkness of ignorance, what then is our hope? From whence will salvation come? The messiah we seek whom shall it be, who will see him? I am in no place to inform the learned barrister of the yawning idiocy of his views, how against good conscience and the rule of law his propositions run. He knows all about it: the whole of the Nigerian legal code I suppose he carries proudly aloft in his celebrated skull far more than I will ever do; the sanctity, purpose, and supremacy of the rule of law, and the accompanying necessity of due legal process, is not for a first time being presented before him. He knows all about it; it holds no novel challenge, yet he speaks from the depths of ignorance, as though he were among the ranks of the unlearned, misinformed, confused, uninitiated, perhaps for gain, perhaps to deliberately mislead. Did careful thought precede his words, or were they thoughtlessly expelled from the vaults of the anxious gullet before due consideration had gestated forth? One can only hope this isn't a permanent ailment, otherwise the learned lawyer might lose what faint traces of credibility he has left, and join permanently the mass of sleeping, contented ignoramuses. |

How many of us here would be considered for bail if indicted for 100 million Naira embezzlement of government or corporate funds? Who will shout "human rights" on our behalf? |

You are right partly sir. Let appropriate and good laws and judgment be made against looting and similar crimes. I suggest getting back from them the amount they looted or stole, two let them pay in addition to this three times of the amount each stole, three let many of their properties and assets be confiscated by the government and finally let them be sentenced to appropriate prison terms. Let them be investigated and if caught to have looted the common wealth of the people and found guilty, let them be rightly and justly punished. So that people may learn from their cases and be warned of crime against humanity. Another thing that it is not thrives and looters who have looted the common wealth of all that will and should be telling us how to punish them, they have no right to steal our common wealth and also be telling us how long they should stay either in detention or prison or how we should punish them. Let them go and bring lawyers, but let us tell them all what crimes they have committed and the appropriate punishment for them and let the sentence be pronounced against them and be enforced. Thank you |
