Dunno what the fuss this all about....There isn't enough gold in the country to fill the stinking hold of a galleon.Fayemi can as well find gullibe zuckers to swallow this propaganda shyte.

Oil has fallen...so any means of getting forex is welcome....even if it is just a few million a year.

Smh. I guess he's referring to those illegal Chinese gold miners and their Nigerian co-conspirators at Osun state. sad To think that some people somewhere are feeding fat on such illegality. Gov't needs to do more to arrest the situation coz it's unacceptable. We are talking multiple billions of naira worth of gold being smuggled out of this shores unaccounted for every month!
We are talking of over $140bn worth of gold annually!

This is d job of a geoscientist. I wonder why Fayemi is in charge....can he recognise any of those minerals, even in his neighbourhood in Ekiti state? Tonnes of other minerals are mined freely around Itawure, Effon, etc. All those rocks are mineral-bearing, not only Gold is being stolen...

...& you know the culprits undecided -these are Professors from Ekiti State!

When the people no longer believe the government can bring about an equitable distribution of the benefits of the natural resources present in theI'd land to them what else do you expect? While I don't condone or support the illegal mining,of what benefit has the legal mining done for the people living in those communities?

I thought i would hear that Government is partnering with a Mining company from Australia, China, South Africa or even Zambia on how to develop mining centers or industries.
I though i would hear that FG has discovered huge deposits of gold, bauxite, kaolin, beryllium etc
I thought i would hear that Ajeokuta steel complex would be up in next 6 months, employ 5000 graduates, produce first steel ingot, supply Innoson with subsidized steel for their vehicle manufacturing plants
I thought i would hear training of Engineers for the take off of a mineral research institutes
I thought i would hear that we have started mining coal as alternate energy source to some of the vandalized gas pipes that is causing energy shortage in the country
But am not surprised at all, its coming from a man that knows nothing of Solid minerals.
We are not just serious as a country. instead of Fayemi talking of expanding or encouraging mining he is looking for way to hinder power local miners from their daily bread so that they can go into robbery and kidnapping ko?

We are watching in 3D

How do they even come up with these figures, figures are just quoted off-hand without providing the source of the information.

China which is the world's largest producer of gold produces 490 tons of gold per annum which translates to about 490,000kg per year or 1,361kg per day according to data from the US Geological Survey.

If we truly had the amount of solid minerals that we have been led to believe we have the BHP Billitons and Rio tintos of this world would have been flocking to Nigeria no matter how inhospitable the environment is.

They should carry out a proper and detailed study of our solid mineral resources so we know exactly what we have and stop giving Nigerians false hope.

if you restart Ajaokuta who are you going to sell the steel to? Most steel mills in the west have closed down cos they can't compete with the Asian producers, they wouldn't even be able to meet their costs not to talk of making a profit. They can't make a profit by selling to Nigerian industries cos the industries are just not sufficient to meet the demand.

What I expect the Minister to do is to engage the services of qualified companies and consultants to determine exactly how many solid mineral resources we possess and the precise quantity so we know which ones are commercially viable to mine. If we just plunge into mining without proper data we'll certainly get our hands burnt.

China is stealing their show because of the currency war.
Nigerian currency will favor export in the international market because its also cheap unlike the Euro and dollar
For a start the local consumption while take a huge chunk, imagine Ajeokuta supplying Nigerian Railway steel for expansion.
Also the cost of production will be cheaper in Nigeria than many nations because the 3 main ingredient for steel productions ( Ore, Coke and limestone) are in relatively close proximity of 250 Km radius ( Nigeria is the only country in the world with that key advantage)

Mtcheeeew, what does he know about solid minerals??can he identify any if he sees one??i bet he doesnt even know the difference betwixt fools gold and real gold,is the federal government mining gold in commercial quantities in the country?? Why cry foul oer illegal miners??just so they can say he is relevant as a minister, churning out baseless words!!!!was expecting a drastic change in the solid mineral mining sector, say ajaokuta has resumed production,or itakpe iron ore is now functional, millions of dollars keeps wasting away in that site as the machines are out in the open, left to rot by a failed government.
