The writer doesn't have something serious to talk about. Is there anything to criticise in collecting taxes or impossing such on private schools? I seriously think "No" 1 Like |

MrPolitics: The OP's grouse is that the students are being forced to shell out the money on behalf of the schools. Whether directly so or the incidence being passed on to the students via increase in their tuition fees is what I don't know. |

Altho it's true fayose has been collecting 1k from every private school student, but how sure are we dat is d reason y the school building shown was sealed. Coz left to me,that structure isn't befitting to be called a school structure, hence it's below the standard of being called a school. So d so called building meant for a school must have been sealed coz of oda glaring reasons asides d tax tn,except the op has an evidence oda Dan just showing us 'sealed' sticker on a building dat was not built to conform to a school building. Moderators too should know what to bring to front page. Not every post should make front page. |

though i do not support fayose and his method of ruling, but the truth is, it is our right as Nigeria citizens to pay tax. it is their right to collect it. though it shouldn't have been fayose that will go about collecting tax. there are officials in place for such work. when i was serving in Edo state, the NYSC secretariat was locked down cos they were owing tax payment. last year, the Private School i am working in Benin was locked cos of this same tax issue until they were able to pay some certain amount. if you go to developed countries, they pay taxes. why should Nigeria own be different? and we will all want to run overseas or to a developed country that some people taxes has helped to maintain.I am certain the money the school are levying their students is actually supposed to be paid by the school to the govt not from the students to the govt. The schools are just using the govt excuse to levy the students cos they can't produce the money charged. I am not Fayose fan in anyway so haters should face fronts nd see clearly just in case, i am a law abiding tax payer and i even have a valid card to prove it showing my TIN. 1 Like |

Collecting tax from private school students is barbaric and marmaric. What is Fayose proofing or is he a scientist. E be like say na North Korea Democracy he dey play with Ekiti people. |
Re: Fayose Closing Down Private Schools In Ekiti by Mariojane(f): 10:45am On Apr 05, 2016 |
henrygale:you are kind of right to some extent but the truth is like u said,it may be for other reasons that the school was sealed.if the school was sealed cos of refusal to pay tax,it won't be sealed like that. They will use their ribbon nd use their own padlock. It is staff in nd organization that pay tax not students. The school may be using govt request to pay to levy the students without the govt knowing. |

Simitrendy: Keep hating, he still paid a full salary in February with the meagre 1.3billion he collects as allocation (mind you, the wage bill in Ekiti is 2.8billion) he's promised the workers that two months allocation will be used in paying for a month salary. Who cares if you are from Moba or Ilejemeje? It's obvious that you hate the man and you would do anything to bring his government down. Repent and have peace of mind. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY:IMPATIENCE IS NOT A VIRTUE. I think I love my country and no one can say it to my face that he/she loves her than I do.I have made it a duty to be curious, because curiosity is the mother of inventions. And I strive to know everything going on politically, economically and socially as scenarios unfold on daily basis.Through what I read and listen to on media,I can feel what Nigerians are passing through and how hard to be a Nigerian at this time of economic hardship. The economic weather is so cloudy that nobody can forecast or can tell whether it's going to bring soothing rains or scorching sun.The free fall of Naira is akin to the stumbling of Zimbabwean dollars and still no measure or policy rigid enough to control or curtail the downward trends. But in the midst of all this, impatience is not a virtue and pointing accusing fingers won't help either. We breathed a sigh of relief when the much awaited buget has was passed after Hollywood-like drama that ensued between the power brokers. The usual practice of padding almost threw the entire nation into an uproar before succour was found in the name of amendment at the upper chamber.Though the budget contains some anomalies, but I still believe if meticulously executed,it would surely alleviate the untold hardship Nigerians are passing through at moment. We just need urgent stimulus because waiting game won't help any longer. In a simple social parlance, people would say,has budgets not been passed before? Is there any concrete or tangible things that came out of them in the end? Yes,these are questions that truly deserve being aske by patriotic citizens but still, we can't hurriedly conclude that this will be like those ones that had gone down the drains or gone to the same few mouths feeding fat at the expense of over 170 million helpless mouths. We must not hope against hope or throw in the towel when we can still dream and make it real.Remember we endured for sixteen(16) years of PDP's locust reigns. The reign that can only be likened to an Hollywood movie called, 'The Reign of Fire'. We wailed and lamented but the drunkards were busy feasting on the 'national cake'.Not even the clueless and shoeless President who held sway and supervised the voodoo economy, and then came out with bogus figures to deceive the gullible henchmen and followers saw reason why we were wailing then.To them it's ours to wail and them to plunder. If we could managed to survived in those locusts and mean years,we should be able to exercise that same golden patience for this present regime and see whether Buhari and his men have what it takes to lead us out of this troubled water we have found ourselves. It's known that this regime will not elapsed until 2019,it invariably means all wailing and lamentations is of no use now, except ones born into the river of tears can continue to wash their faces with the legitimate tears. In a nutshell,we should just let all hands be on desk and support this government with our prayers and efforts.Perhaps,if they fail to learn but also toe same roads their predecessors toed, then we can now chase them like we did to PDP and its born to rule mentality. No party is indispensable on planet earth. We proved that here in 2015 and can still be repeated .We are more sophisticated and informed than before .Take us for granted at your own peril! Now our duty is more than wailing or hailing but contributing positively. And be objective in your judgment rather than being a bigot, blind critic and hater of nation in one stinking corner there. We should let them know that brooms and umbrellas won't be enough to us deceive in 2019.But above all, patience is needed on our sides. |

Bjergtrolde: This #1,000 charge is the same in all private school. I don't believe that the charges on student will be the same if the school was imposing the money on student by themselves. |

Toscoas2: I don't thinking that imposing tax on student is the main solution. There is a lot happening in Ekiti if you don't know. The government is not paying for secondary school student WAEC anymore. And the government have been paying this for at least 6-7years now. Is he encouraging student to study or what? |

Re: Fayose Closing Down Private Schools In Ekiti by emmanuelewumi(m): 1:20pm On Apr 05, 2016 |
MrPolitics: Schools pay taxes, annual dues, land use charge, teachers pay income taxes, the owners also pay incomes taxes, employees also pay annual development levies. Fayose introduced a new tax, whereby private school owners MUST pay a levy or tax on each student registered in private schools. This levy or tax will be paid every term, the essence of this levy is to get money that will be spent on the maintenance of the public schools. It is just like a private hospital owners being asked to pay levy on each patient, so that the money will now be invested on public hospitals. |
Re: Fayose Closing Down Private Schools In Ekiti by emmanuelewumi(m): 1:24pm On Apr 05, 2016 |
yaki84: This is another levy, which is different from the annual dues and other taxes and charges which schools pay, he said the essence of the levy was to develop the public schools. |
