It is rather unusual that Apple didn't market the Iphone 6s and Iphone SE as being waterproof, something other OEMs are using as a selling point for their phones. After watching a video where someone did water test for the Iphone 5s, Iphone SE and Iphone 6s, Iphone 5s was able to survive only 5 mins while the Iphone SE and Iphone 6s lasted over 30 mins in a bowl pf water and everything still worked. Check out the Video below

Now if u think that is not extreme enough, Another youtuber made an even more insane test. This time with the Galaxy s7 and Iphone 6s in what he called Coca Cola Freeze Test. He put both phones in different bowls and added coca cola, covered the bowls and put them in the freezer at -24 degress celcius for 10 hours. Yes 10 hours. U can Imagine how frozen the result would be. So Did any of the phones survive? Watch the video and find out by urself.

I wasn't too surprised the s7 pulled through since it has ip68 rating. The one that surprised me is the iphone 6s, initially I thought this test was definitely going to KILL the iphone.

When the iphone was brought out of the block, it did not display anything, i was like... oh well, then it was plugged in to a charger, it came on and started working, i was like, WTF!!! Well, it just goes to show how most oems just use a specific feature in their flagships and use it as as a selling point whereas the "perceived" competition (iphone) does not even talk about most of its feature but it is there. kudos to apple...... still team android, team tech advancement wink

Its not a selling point per se. If your iPhone gets soaked inside water and doesn't power on anymore then no problem. But if a phone say Samsung S7 gets same treatment and doesnt power on then you can sue Samsung(ip 68 certification has a duration of time and depth of water the device can spend inside water).

Most recent phones mostly flagships are water resistance simply cos of accidents. These companies know users always go close water outlets with their phones. Anyways, its a good thing to see these tho

It sure is good to see this..... to me, i feel waterproofing a phone is a necessity. Even if a consumer would not delibrately put his/her phone in water, other unknown scenarios can definitely occur.

On a lighter note, i guess the Tecno Phantom 6 would be waterproof also( if e happen ehn, we nor go hear word for nairaland again) grin

I get ur point. The iPhone 6s is not ip68 certified because apple doesn't wanna bear the responsibility if any phones gets damaged by water, nice one Apple. But there are many tests on YouTube to prove the iPhone 6s is actually waterproof.

That isn't a new thing bro. HTC M8 proves that too. Check YouTube and you will find videos of M8 as well. it's normal for these companies to do these things cos of accidental falls. Do you know Japanese often shower with their phones? That market owned by Sony and Apple.

Now imagine these companies not waterproofing their phones. If you noticed at the end of the video, the guy was hailing the iPhone 6s for surviving the test. But I feel the test would have been more valid if they were not ip whatever certified.

I mean, if the phones tested were, say s6 vs m9 vs 6s vs g4 et al

I see the g4 taking the most hit on this one because of the removable back.

I concur. I have seen many tests that proved this to be right which begs the question; why did Apple not tout it?

Well, I know Apple more than anything and I know how they operate so I am really not surprised they are yet to highlight it. In due time though, they will.
