christinie: You people should stop defending this nonsense. Private schools pay company income tax to FIRS and Personal income tax (PAYE) to the state board of internal revenue. Asking pupils to pay tax or asking the school to pay the tax from school fees collected is not only illegal but immoral and illogical. Government does not provide any structure for private schools, they have no reason to ask private school students to pay tax or development levy. Mention just one other state in Nigeria where private school pupil are mandated to pay tax? |

seunmsg: It is odd hearing students of private schools being asked to pay tax, l think private schools were asked to pay tax as a business entity then they shifted it to pupils given the impression that the State government is taxing those kids for attending a private school. The State government's side of the issue should also be heard to have a balanced view of the situation because a lot of falsehood circulates the social media. |

MrPolitics: Did u read that write-up at all? The students that can't even afford to attend a standard school are been asked to pay a thousand naira each as tax to the govt. Some of them don't even have food to eat yet. |
Re: Fayose Closing Down Private Schools In Ekiti by seunmsg(m): 1:56pm On Apr 05, 2016 |
Pavore9: State government doesn't have the power to collect corporate tax from a business entity. That's strictly a federal tax collected by FIRS. State can only collect personal income tax and development levy from the staffs of the school and from available information, the schools are complying with that. |

godson36:Op, your post if full of half-truths and misinformation. Governor Fayoose has not sealed any school because of tax. He has only sealed off schools whose proprietors failed to remit the newly introduced education levy of 500 Naira per primary school pupil and 1000 Naira for every secondary school student. The schools were not expected to pay on behalf of their pupils or students, rrather they are to collect and remit same to the coffers of the government. While many schools have collected these monies and in some cases they even collected twice the amount, some have refused to remit the collections to the government. Secondly, it is untrue that some pupils or students have not gone to school for weeks as a result of the governor's action. The closure of schools just started a few days back. In any case, most of the schools have closed for the term. You also made it look as if government fixws the amount to be paid arbitrarily hence your reference to some schools not being able to pay the amount levied on them. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Each school is expected to pay according to the number of pupils/students on roll. If a school fails to collect what is due to government from the pupils/students, then it only has itself to blame. The only truth in your write-up is the last part which questions the rationale behind this levy. I agree with you that it is wrong for ANYBODY in this age and generation to levy Kindergaten, Nursery and Primary school pupils. It is heartless to ask a two-year old in KG 1 to pay to receive education. It is totally unfair and an outright violation of the right of these children to education. Finally, let me add that one should not weep louder than the bereaved. Ekiti State people are enjoying the myriad of levies. The have not complained. Until they hit the street in mass protest, I for one believe they support the governor on this and other issues. I rest my case. |

MrPolitics:this schools are paying their annual taxes, the ministry of commerce gets their money each year, thats the plan, the recent one is a new development where students are to pay taxes, forgive ma ignorance but i thought taxes are meant for working adults and not kids who still feeds off their parents tables, their parents are paying taxes, their kids too is!!didnt think that law is in the constitution of the country!! Yes,the school the op displayed is substandard, the approval shouldnt have been given in the first place, but over the weekend i know of two schools that was closed down which are not only conducive but one of d biggest in the state, this issue has no other name than bullsh*t and victimization against the masses....... |

godson36:So ekiti pays a tax of 1k while benue pays a tax of 50k but it's ekiti own that gives you orga.sms. Continue, the zombie demon is a very stubborn one to deliver. cc Prophet TB Joshua. By the way I'm yet to verify the ekiti story yet, my two friends (civil servants) denied knowledge of a 1k parallel tax. I guess you don't need to verify the benue story. Why don't you go ahead and provide me with a credible source I can contact in ekiti before you go gung-ho on Fayose |

seunmsg:talking to some people is like talking to a wall, imagine what that fellow was ranting about,i bet its his own government that provides for the private sectors needs not the one we running in Nigeria, schools as a private body pays taxes each year to the government, which still sounds logical, now to compliment that students who after paying their fees would now pay an additional amount for tax! Dont know the best words to describe this barbaric acts, mind u this is levied to all students in the state,be it private or public, yes u heard right, public school students too pays!!!!!!! |

The op was right in his write-up.It is true that minors now pay tax of #1000 in Ekiti State per term.Nobody is saying private schls should not pay taxslevied on them by the govt. But it is tantamount to double standard for the govt to collect taxs from both students and schl owners. The burden of it goes to parents who cannot provide decent meals for their wards due to economic situation in the country. What is happening in ekiti now is self-inflicted injury.I know from day one that fayose's second coming to ekiti is a revenge mission. I pity those civil servants who have not been paid since Novemher .Teachers are the worst hit. |

Simitrendy:NEVER!! you cannot be from EKiti North (MOBA LGA) and talk this? HAAAAA EYAN!!!! chai!!! people can so mislead? haba! i weep for you dude. how can someone claim to come from Moba and say bad of Fayose. i say may God forgive your mouth. MOBA used to be the worst LGA in Ekiti until this Fayose came and reconstructed the roads leading to MOBA. ever since i was born till Fayose first term, no one can pass tru MOBA road and not take Paracetamol on getting to his/her destination. this man came, constructed this road from Ayetoro-Otun, Oye-Iye-Ilejemeje-Igogo-Otun......to mention but a few. Fayose constructed the dualiasation of Ado-Ekiti road. tell me what other past governors have done. if this man should collect tax from school, its not too much, moreso, the picture here is nothing to write about, so its ok to shut it before they put another thing into the children's head, a school should be conducive for reading. please stop feeding peeps with lies or are you the younger bros to LIAR Mohhamed?? |
