An argument spewed between me and some of my neighbors, the topic of argument? The evil of cesarean section. One of my neighbors who lives in Brazil started the argument when he asked, why is it that in Nigeria #cesarean delivery is seen as evil while in Brazil it is a normal thing, he asked angrily. Why he asked is the topic for another day.
pregnant woman

My other neighbor followed up with, ‘the truth is, it is not a natural way to bring a child into the world.’ Boom the beginning of the end!

This got me thinking why some Nigerians really see cesarean delivery as evil. I think it is a typical case of ‘one man’s pomo being another’s leather’! There are people who think there is absolutely nothing wrong with it but to really make a conclusion, I prefer to look at it through the eyes of these three set of people: The #Spirituals, #The Liberals and The Man.

cesarean section
The Spirituals:
Some people who are spiritual or who love to read spiritual meanings to everything believe that God made the woman’s vagina as the road every baby must travel into the world and to them, anything other than this, is not natural, it’s not God’s way. They pray ‘You will deliver like the Hebrew women’… that means natural, very fast and may be stress less! Anything outside this actually is not from God.

Re: CESAREAN SECTION: The Clash Of The Spirituals, The Liberals And The Man by Nobody:
I am yet to understand why, I know people that have lost their babies because they didn't wanna have a CS.
*Maybe it's the cost?
*the stigma of being tagged weak (I don't even know who told them CS is for the weak, the pain is classic) angry?
*The stereotype that CS mothers don't get their postbaby body back (easily), then it's safe to assume all the women without flat tummies on the street had CS then.
^^^'cos I don't buy that spirituality shii, I believe they have other reasons. Abi them see how the Hebrew women born with their korokoro eye?

Some people are comfortable with the procedure (elective CS) others had it recommended by their OB/GYN for specific reasons. In all,the most important thing to me is the wellbeing of mother and child, how the child came into the world is none of my business, none of my business because I have seen people ask _ natural delivery, right?, and I wonder how they open their mouth to ask such questions. E concern youuuu? ? ?

Only the ignorant see cesarean section as abnormal. What do they mean by it is not God's way?
There are reasons why a child has to be born through cesarean section;the baby could be in breech position, there could be cord around the neck or the size of the baby is disproportionate to the birth canal. If you try to force normal birth with these, you could lose the baby(and the mother),have the baby suffer birth injury or birth asphyxia and end up brain damaged.
Is it not better to have a healthy baby and the mother alive?
I overheard my neighbour's sister saying it's abnormal and not Godly to give birth by CS while she was still pregnant.Fastforward and i saw her one day without the pregnancy and no baby. She had lost the baby.I didn't need anyone to tell me what must have happened.

I think it's a delicate dicey one. Practically I think it's a battle of faith and logic or reason.

We're talking bout the safety of mother and child. CS is like every other divine revelation through science to reduce infant mortality. Why use an insecticide treated net? Why take drugs in the first place? The Catholics will recite 'fruit of the vine work of human hands let it become for us.. ....'

As a liberal and a Christian I'd go for it and it doesn't make my wife a lesser woman.

Seriously all I want to see is a healthy mum and child, I don't care how the child made his debut.

2014 when my doctor informed me I was going to have a CS, I said OK!

With shock on her face, she asked REALLY?!

I said yes and asked her why.

She said she was expecting me to scream God forbid, not my portion. I simply told her if that is the only way left to see, carry, cuddle, care for the fruit of my womb, so be it.

2016 and still counting, you need to see the handsome ,smart, funny, witty boy.

The prayers should be that may God make it successful, shikena!

It saved my life I thought I was gonna die in the theatre cos of stories I heard in fact I was awake all through the procedure only my down part was injected, but it was very fast you can't even see the mark. I don't see anything wrong with it, it would only save your life, the second baby was normal and fast too. The pains in normal delivery na die to push sef na another stress hmmmmm normal delivery I fear am pass CS choi lol

My aunt who is a certified NURSE lost her baby because they prophesied in her church that if she goes through CS she will die hence before the labour started she was already sleeping in the church everything happened in the church she lost the baby. I was disappointed in her, she waved me that I don't believe in prophecy that its better for the child to go. Hmmmm churches

Normal delivery is painful but after the baby is out the pain is gone.

good thread. have a friend who hid the fact that the wife gave birth through CS,when the wife told my wife, she had to beg my wife not to tell me,asif it was something bad.

Blacks have a long way to go,and more orientation. whatever to save the mum and child is OK by me.
shout out to all mothers, and expecting mum,you rock.

CS is a good option especially if it's to saved d mother n child life....wen I was pregnant n it's has gotten to 39weeks n 5days,d last scan I did says shortage of amniotic fluid.wen I got to d hospital, check my bp it was 170/100 n protein was 2+,d doc says CS is d next option.at first I rejected it n d doctor had to come out of his office n started begging me. I did d CS ,it was very fast n was successful. My cute boy is 1yr old n I had no regret

Seems some of our tradition and culture is opposed to having a happy life. CS taboo, females genital mutilation, food taboo, etc.

I had my first in 2010 via C/S after going tru a life threatening labour then took in wen she was 1 year and 9 months. Had d 2nd in 2013 (elective C/S). I boldly say it to whoever wants to know and proudly show my scar (which is not visible except i show you). Some people will say 'oh u are so lazy and can't push', Who cares? I av one more to go and it will be elective CS except d baby choose to come out unaided without me feeling any labour pain before my booked date.

There's nothing like lazy during labour, its a battle of life and death. A friend of mine had all her kids through CS. My second baby I was already booked again for CS I went to my doctor and he told there's no need for CS this time before the baby came out I ve already told my doctor to book me for CS cos the pains was unbearable but she came out 10 minute after. If not I would ve gladly gone for it.

Chronic ignorance is a crime.

I had all my boys via normal delivery. For my last pregnancy, my daughter's head just didn't engage. Her position most times was transverse. After waiting nearly 15 years for my beautiful princess, was I going to risk losing her life and mine because of some backward notion of what a a strong" woman is? No way.

Sure normal delivery will be the preference most times, but in critical life or death situations, let common sense (a.k.a C-Section) prevail pls.

Yes, normal delivery is painful but once your baby is out you quickly forget the pain. But C-Section? Arrgghhh!! That took me weeks to recover. I'm never going there again jor. I nor get power.

Kudos to all mums out there. Normal delivery and / or C-sectioners. smiley
