My Government Is Committed To Jonathan’s Deal With China - Buhari

PRESIDENT Muhmmadu Buhari has stated that his government is committed to the contracts initiated and signed by former President Goodluck Jonathan with China in the area of  railway, roads and hydroelectric dam projects.

Speaking  to  Xinhua News Agency  ahead of his 5-day state visit to China, which started today he said; On trade and economic ties, Buhari said his government remains committed to contracts signed by its predecessor with Chinese firms on railway, roads and hydroelectric dam projects.

The new agency also stated that President Muhammadu Buhari has described the enormous potential in China-Nigeria economic and trade cooperation as an opportunity his country can't afford to lose in development.

Buhari, in an exclusive interview with Xinhua prior to his state visit to China starting Monday, said Nigeria and China enjoy vast opportunities in cooperation in such fields as agriculture, mining, electric power generation, and railway and road construction.

The Nigerian leader expressed his country's genuine wishes to further strengthen the Nigeria-China ties. China has the technical and financial capacity and the experience of development while retaining the goodwill to help Nigeria, said Buhari.

"So, really, this is an opportunity Nigeria cannot afford to lose," the president told Xinhua at the Presidential Palace.

In spite of being the largest economy in Africa, Nigeria is still badly in need of these projects, which China, as the world's second-largest economy, has the capacity to undertake, said the president.

Nigeria has been an economy largely relying on oil export while spending its foreign currency reserve heavily on rice and grain imports. Buhari said his country stands ready to expand the development of industries, especially in manufacturing and textile industries and speed up infrastructure construction, which presents huge opportunities for both China and Nigeria.

"The opportunities that present themselves for us ... are virtually limitless," he said.

On the concern of employment, Buhari said 62 percent of the Nigerian population is under the age of 35 and the jobless rate among this group is very high.

The best way to tackle unemployment is to develop agriculture and the mining industry, which China has the capacity to help, said the president. Some Chinese enterprises have already been involved in the mining industry in Nigeria's northern provinces, he noted.

Buhari is scheduled to pay his first state visit to China from Monday to Friday. Born in Daura in northern Nigeria on Dec. 17, 1942, he won the presidential elections in March 2015, and was sworn in two months later.

I don't understand, wailers have been trying to tell us all week that this loan was a bad idea yet it came from their hero.
Buhari, just use filter to sieve the policy of the previous government. The few ones that were geared towards the people can be continued while the evil ones like the Dasuki gate type should be pursued to the last reasonable solution.

That's a bull in China shop speaking. Hope say he went with assistance to help him with the talking else he starts vibrating and spewing gibberish at the expense of the anticipated aid from China.

This Buhari never tells us a policy is initiated by the previous Government till he's criticised for it.

I hate pretences/propaganda/lies/misrepresentation.

Silly Government.

It is good to finish old projects before starting new ones.

Is Lagos to Calabar rail line part of Gej's deal with China or not?

Buhari should explain the controversy surrounding this project in 2016 budget.

Shame on southern politicians /members of NASS for allowing such omission.

You are not alone. A lot of people are also support him. Some people are quiet for now because of the situation of things. But like football team, as soon as they start winning games, you will suddenly notice that they had a lot of fans.

The only thing this APC government knows is corruption. Buhari you're the minister of petroleum why is there fuel scarcity all over the country? Buhari will say corruption...

The budget you submitted to the NASS is highly padded why? Buhari says its because of corruption...

Buhari why have you been unable to put in place what you promised Nigerians? Buhari will be like 16yrs of PDP is highly corrupt...

Buhari why have you been on air more than in your office since your administration... Buhari will be like you know PDP is corrupt so he's travelling on their behalf for what they should have travelled the past 16yrs.

Tell them the truth that this administration is insensitive, visionless, directionless and khakistocratic they will say your corrupt.

Your fighting corruption yet things are going from bad to worse ...

What can you say about the 95% - 5% theory by Muhammadu Buhari?

Quote the 95%-5% speech verbatim for a proper discussion.

Quote Jonathan's "stealing is not corruption" verbatim for proper orientation.

Meanwhile, in Buhari's words:

“(Going by election results), constituencies that gave me 97% can not in all honesty be treated, on some issues, with constituencies that gave me 5%. I think these are political realities. While, certainly there will be justice for everybody but the people who voted, and made their votes count, they must feel the government has appreciated the effort they put in putting the government in place. I think this is really fair….”

And we expect Lawmakers from the 5% regions to fold their arms??

Lol, I always get new reasons daily to hate APC.

I took the liberty of putting in more details of the purported statement. The bolded part is usually left out by those out for mischief. Luckily for me, I think you are not one of them (until proven otherwise of course).
But even if the mischief makers are right and the budget had something to show that he did not mean what he said, why did the people from that region allow that part of the budget that favours them to be removed while the North actually increase the amount on their own? Does that not worry you considering both had representatives in the house?
“I hope you have a copy of the election results. Literally constituencies, for example, that gave me 97 per cent, cannot in all honesty be treated, on some issues, [the same way as] some constituencies that gave me five per cent. I think these are political realities. While certainly there will be justice for everybody; everybody will enjoy their constitutional rights, where the party in constituencies that by either sheer hard work made sure they got their people [to vote] and ensure their votes count, they must feel that the government has appreciated the effort they put in putting the government in place. I think this is really fair. [But] By the constitution, no state can be excluded from government, so there is no way even if I were to show gratitude to those constituencies that voted heavily for me against those that didn’t even vote for me, they have the protection of the government. And I have made an undertaking that I belong to everybody, I belong to no body. If I come clearly and marginalize a certain group because they didn’t vote for me then I have already contradicted myself and I am sure people will be quick to pick that against me.”

They say GEJ was clueless yet PMB has stolen all his ideas. If you criticize him, then he confesses, if you dont criticize him he claims it as his original ideas
