You don't have sufficient cognition to make any meaningful contribution beyond what tribalism has enslaved you to become.

Myopic thinking.

How about you do something with the existing ports in that region like Onne rather than asking for an idea full of folly. When you get to secure your waterways, maybe shipping insurance prices will just be low enough for shippers to reconsider plying that area.

You don't have a clue of the benefits of intermodal transportation in an economy and you can't decipher why another port in a dangerous area is a bad idea? Smh
Very good that u raised that point. U have to understand that their are no deep seaport in the whole SS/SE.

Wat u have in Onne is nothing more than a Riverport in terms of capacity and machinery.

How can two regions with the largest access to sea front not have a Deep Seaport?

Yet u wonder Y our economy and currency are stagnating.

First thing you should do before opening a thread about the economic relevance of ports is to ask your self the level utilization of existing ports in SS before asking for yet another port that will be unused. Address the usage of existing ports before moving with a white elephant project.

There are no deep seaport in SS/SE. The SS/SE has the largest sea front in Nigeria and should host a deep seaport in Port Harcourt. It wil be built by Federal Government with the region oil money.

FEDERAL OCEAN TERMINAL (FOT)
The Federal Ocean Terminal has a total quay length of 2890 meters.
This terminal which is deep and large was designed to accommodate and anchor bigger and ocean going vessels and to berth vessels of 40,100 to 50,000 DWT capacity. It was envisaged to be the largest, deepest most modern Port in the West and Central African sub-regions and has potential for expansion to serve both local and international investors. Being concessional to a multinational company called Intels Logistics services (INTELS), the construction of the Ocean terminal, was designed to be in 4 (four) phases. Three of this with 11 berths are completed and being utilized.

Speak for yourself man. SE and SS needs the railway as well as the seaport. As much as efforts are being made to build this all important railway, efforts should also be made to revive the seaports in PH, Warri and Calabar. But your position that a high speed railway connecting the entire SE/SS region is 'useless,' no reasoning could be more pathetic.

Efforts are being made presently by the Cross Rivers government to develop a seaport with private investors; the Lagos government is also doing same for a seaport at Lekki, so it is possible for power blocks in the SE to pull brains and resources together to achieve a seaport close to Aba. Recently the transport minister raised a pertinent question pertaining to why seaports in the Niger delta aren't viable any more. He promises to look into that and whether he does succeed in that aspect or not, it does not change the fact that the coastal railway which links all the southern major cities and some south-eastern cities is a very economically important project. Your lack of understanding on this (which is glaringly fuelled by your prejudice for any project that links Nigeria up) cannot change the importance of this project.
NICE ONE.

The coastal rail way will destroy our sea front view.

It is a useless idea that can never generate foreign income and increase our foreign reserve.

However, wen tribalism leave Nigerians alone, feel free to construct a deep seaport and see Nigeria Economy grow.

Lagos is over crowded, let us not wait until we massacre each other on the street of Lagos.

Yoruba greed will ultimately lead to dat, as our collective wealth continues to be diverted to Lagos.
For any educated person to possibly question the economic relevance of having a robust transport system, it speaks volumes of such a person's intellectual capacity. And then you go ahead to say a high speed rail would destroy our sea front view? What do you mean by that? undecided

Mr, put your tribal bigotry/hatred/distrust aside, put political differences aside, put your election loss trauma aside, then you will realise how pathetically empty and ridiculous these your statements are.

U would say that wont u? Ur not from SS/SE but forget that a deep seaport will also serve the North Central and North by extension.

You kinda forget that Cross River, Akwa Ibom have potentials for tourism and technology growth which could build those economies. People will frequent these cities for relaxation and business from all over Nigeria if commute would be faster

A seaport is under federal list not state governors.

People want to talk but have very little idea.

Will the federal governmnet ever approve such for SE?

BEST WAY FORWARD IS FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH TO CONSTRUCT IT.
Very weak, sad and ignorant excuse..

Lagos state is a state and they are building a deep seaport in Lagos state

Ondo and Ogun are states inside Nigeria and they are jointly building a deep seaport in OLOKOLA FREE TRADE ZONE.

Another deep seaport is set to go up in Badagry

These deep seaports are all state projects and not FG projects.

You can not say the FG won't approve the project when you are yet interest fist or put any plans on the table for the FG to look at and approve.

You are basically making up excuses for lazy, weak thinking and incompetent leaders which is very unnecessary. Other states are moving forward and doing their own thing without waiting for any FG to do anything for them, but not the SE, they just sit down and cry foul all day long. Other states are building their own bridges, but not SE, they yelled for 30 years and still no bridge. When are you going to pull resources together and build your own bridge.?
Re: SS/SE Need Deep Seaport Not Calabar To Lagos Rail. Give Us Deep Seaport. by Stolen(op): 2:30pm On Apr 11, 2016
The surest and fastest way for Buhari and APC to take SS/SE is construction of a mega Deep Seaport smack in Rivers, Port Harcourt.

or the Obuaku deep seaport in Abia via land reclamation and link bridge.

or Ibaka deep seaport in Akwa Ibom

or Onne upgraded to a mega deep seaport

Game changer!

2019 opinions split!

Even me a devout Buhari hater will happily vote for him and shout sai baba!

The money we are talking about here for construction is our oil money. So why not?

Oh! obviously in your head, a high speed rail connecting the coastal cities is synonymous with APC and Buhari so therefore, it must be opposed by fire by force?

Sorry boy, you have once again exposed your stark ignorance and contrary to your delusion, your category of human reasoning doesn't represent up to 1% of the entire SS or SE.

Dude dont destroy our sea front with rail track that will kill people in accident. Road accident is enough.

We need Deep Seaport, period.

Lack of good transportation and easy access is the reason why places like Tinapa and Obudi are not doing great since their largest customer bases is Lagos.

This rail also means good transportation for millions of Nigerians in that region for business, pleasure and private, less stress, pressure, maintenance and accidents on our roads.. The benefits are endless and let's not even talk about the thousands of jobs involved..

So domestic movement of goods and farm produce is of no use?

Domestic movement of raw materials where there is localisation of industries makes no sense?

Rails run in 2 directions, so the movement of man and materials to a place like Calabar which might lead to the spontaneous development of such locations are unnecessary?

Just one major Federal Deep Seaport.
Those are not trains they are tourist trains trains to make you think somebody did something. Hope they invest in fast trains where you can work in Lagos yet live in PH.

What is SS/SE.
You are an igbo fellow, support the south-east and stop claiming south-south. Abia is different from bayelsa.
