OREROKPE – THE Delta State coordinator of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Henrietta Okolo has said that if things go as planned, the NIMC identity card might be used in place of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, voter’s card in the 2019 general elections.

Giving the disclosure at the palace of the Orodje of Okpe during the visit to the monarch on Tuesday, the NIMC boss while harping on the efficacy of the card, also disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture has concluded plans to give loans and farming items to 300, 000 farmers in Delta State through its National Agricultural Payment Initiative, NAPI, in partnership with the commission.

According to her, though the federal government has not given nod for the use of the identity card for voting, the plan is to use the card which also serves as a Master Card, as the major means of identification for all Nigerians including for voting during elections.

“For the agricultural scheme, we are looking at enrolling 300, 000 farmers in Delta State to benefit from this scheme. Though we are in the early stage of the scheme, Delta State is among 15 states in the country selected for the programme,” she stated.

Earlier, the Orodje of Okpe, HRM Orhue 1, while applauding the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and NIMC for the support to farmers, promised to work with district heads in his kingdom to ensure that farmers register and benefit from the programme.

When are we going to integrate everything into one system..phew.

Trust me it won't be used for 2019 general elections. The cards aren't ready yet. I pray it won't enter voice mail oooo.

If that is the case the expect Nigearians and Chadians to vote in 2019 and for northern population to increase by 50%!

if this is how PDP plans to rig itself into office, it is "Dead On Arrival".

National I.D card does not have all the Biometrics and Security Features of the Electoral card.
It is not machine readable as well.

Chip & pin nor dey! D.o.D, l repeat.


It can still be used for just identification.... like we use our Passports

Which ID Card? The ones we cannot register for abi?

Sometimes, I'm just tired of this country and the policies we bandy about.

We want to be like US but we won't allow ourselves to b like US.

Everything has been digitalized yet we're not getting it right...multiple stores of the same data...BVN, National ID Card, Passport, Driver's Licence, Voter's Card...

And even then you'd never get it at official prices.

Driver's Licence: official price N6750; actual...if you're lucky...15k

Passport: official price ~9k for 32 pages; actual...like 30k!

I can go on and on...

how nice! this means we don't have to worry abt carrying too many cards around, am hoping dis one comes into reality.

Have you seen the card at all? And you say it not Chip & Pin...

In actual fact, the planned National ID Card is more secure than even that voters card u r hailing. Try pass your voters card near a magnet then go and use it to vote...Lai lai card reader no go sabi who u be!

The govt hasn't been able to make voters card work properly and they are thinking of this

That must be a joke or some individuals are planning to defraud Nigerians before 2019 elections.

And with the current Inconclusive-NEC such move will lead to a gargantuan election disaster .

NIMC card that will take two years to get.

My mum, my sister and I registered in 2012, I've picked mine, but they haven't received the text to come for theirs.
