HUNDRED OF PLAYERS TURN UP FOR FLYING EAGLES SCREENING

Hundreds of young footballers aged 19 and below turned up in Abuja on the first day of screening of players for Nigeria’s U-20s conducted by head team of the coach Emmanuel Amuneke.

Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent who was at the training session this morning reports that the players were divided into eight different set of 11 players and who played among themselves before some were dropped.

The team will hold their second training session this evening with more players expected to be tested as part of the process of picking the best legs for Nigeria’s Africa Youth Championship qualifiers against Burundi in March.

Selected players from the exercise which is expected to last for three days will compete with 30 other players already listed by the coach for camping starting this Saturday.

Among the 30 invited players, 12 were selected from the all conquering Nigeria U-17 team of 2015 with four members of the same team namely Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen and Lukman Zakari set to join the team later in camp from their various base abroad.

INJURY HALTS NIGERIAN BALE’S TRIALS AT GIL VICENTE

Zaidu Sanusi popularly refereed to as “Nigerian Gareth Bale” is currently out injured which has put a halt to his trials with Portuguese second divison side Gil Vicente.

Sanusi is nursing an ankle injury that has stopped him from training the last three days further reducing his chances of impressing the technical crew of the team in his bid to earn a contract.

The 18 year old plays like Walsh winger Gareth Bale and is very much at home playing as a left full back or winger although he has also played in central midfield a couple of times.

He arrived Portugal a fortnight ago alongside Nonso Collins a central midfielder who has been pushing his case for a contract with fine performances in training according to reports gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com.

We further gathered, the deal was facilitated with Faisal Abdullahi a Kaduna based scout acting as the intermediary for the boys after they were picked by Portuguese scouts who came into the country few months ago on a scouting mission.

I am wishing these lads success.

AF Nigeria Premier League 2015/2016 Arsenal
EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal can walk away from Nwakali deal

AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal that Arsenal could well walk away from a deal that has taken Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze to The Emirates should they not be impressed with the Nigeria youngsters by the time they are 18 and due for a professional contract.

Nwakali was the MVP of last year’s FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile and Chukwueze was one of the tournament’s leading scorers as Nigeria won a record fourth U17 World Cup.

Kelechi Nwakali will be 18 on June 5, while Chukwueze clocks 18 only on May 22 next year.

However, a top source told AfricanFootball.com that Arsenal have first made “minimal’ investment on the two players and so will not hesitate to let go of them for one reason or the other.

“Arsenal have only made an initial investment of about 10% on both players and have insisted they will only finalise a contract with them when they are 18 and have received their international papers,” a source close to the players told AfricanFootball.com

“It’s a huge risk the players’ academy in Nigeria is now taking because should it all go wrong, Arsenal have nothing to lose if they walked away.”

It was understood that this was not the case with Kelechi Nwakali’s older brother, Chidiebere, when he agreed to join another English Premier League club Manchester City.

After initially proposing a 25% investment, City and Chidiebere’s Shuttle Sports Academy finally agreed to share the risk and in the end the promising midfielder was given a pro contract at The Etihad.

It is up to Kelechi Nwakali to use the Facility, equipments and Coaches to build himself into a top player. He is a confident, talented and determined boy.

If he puts in his work, Arsenal can not walk away from the deal.

Good luck lads.

Yes Sir GoodJoe, it's up to him. And I trust he won't fail.

Nwakali is in Arsenal to stay. You can't buy confidence in the big super markets of the world yet Kelechi Nwakali has got loads of confidence and abilities to grow into a top top top player.

I reckon Kelechi will shine through just as Christian Pulisic of the USA (who Kelechi played against at Chile 2015) is already doing at Borussia Dortmund. #smiles

Pulisic was already at Dortmund before Chile 2015. He and the other US youngsters were seen as the best US U-17 team in recent years based on the top talents they paraded. Many don't seem to appreciate fully what our boys achieved against that very good and really talented US team.

Kelechi, from my perspective, will surely shine bright at Arsenal. I also tip Chukwueze to evolve into a supreme attacking talent like Robben while at Arsenal coz that's the player with the closest traits I see in Chukwueze.

Just what I tried explaining in the U-23 thread. Ndifreke is a very good attacking prospect as a left sided midfielder/left winger. Interesting to know he can play the SS role also. He's really an utility player.

But as a left full back, he's very terrible. He's still pretty young though (he's still under 20 yrs).

Football age under 20 or actual under 20?

hahahaha.... pls ooo... my hands are clean. With respect to Ndifreke, I was a bit surprised to see his birth year put as 1998 hence my "under 20" statement. So uhmm... in this case, I'm just quoting the "records".... grin

Meanwhile, I seriously don't want to see him playing left back ever again. He should stick to his attacking attributes. haba! grin

EXCLUSIVE: NIGERIA U-17 DUO MISS OUT ON MOVE TO ROMA

The Nigeria U-17 WYC winning duo of Kingsley Michael and Orji Okonkwo won’t be joining Serie A giants AS Roma according to an official of their nursery team, Football Academy Abuja.

“We called both of them after the World Cup, sat down with them and proposed a contract to them, clearly stating what they will earn in Spezia which is a stepping stone to Roma” Aliyu Mohammed told Owngoalnigeria.com.

“Roma will assess them for six months at Spezia and if they had agreed to follow us to Italy where we went for a youth tournament they would have moved to Roma this summer from Spezia.

“They left and told us they will get back to us, till date no word from them and I can tell you in their space Roma picked five players from our team”.

On the recent relationship between the Abuja Academy and Serie A side Roma, the soft spoken official said it’s due to the success of Sadiq Umar and Nura Abdullahi.

“We cashed in on the success of Sadiq and Nura to forge a relationship with them although via Spezia from where they got Sadiq and Nura, simple put, we supply to Spezia, Roma pick from them after six months”.

Catch up on the performances of players of Nigerian descent in the English Premier League on Sunday.

England youth international Sheyi Ojomade his first ever start for Liverpool in their 4-1 rout of Stoke City at Anfield. The winger notched an assist in the 32nd minute when he ghosted past his marker before crossing for Sturridge to head in.

While the 18-year-old was withdrawn at half time, there was no place in the squad for the Reds number 33Jordon Ibe.

ARSENAL AND DORTMUND SUFFER BLOW AS ROMA PRESIDENT RULES OUT SADIQ UMAR SALE

President of AS Roma James Pallotta has dealt a severe blow to teams queuing up to sign on loan teen prospect Sadiq Umar in the summer by ruling out any potential sale of the talented 19 year old.

Pallotta while dismissing rumours that star midfielder Miralem Pjanic will be sold in the summer took time off to also clear the air on the future of three of the club most sought after youngsters.

The president revealed that the club intends to keep the talented trio of Ezequiel Ponce,Nura Abdullahi and Sadiq Umar.

Sadiq has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal with reports suggesting Roma already turned down a bid for his services from the Gunners although latest report indicate German giants Borrussia Dortmind are leading the chase for his signature in the summer when Roma are expected to turn his loan from Spezia into a permanent deal.

Nura on his part was courted heavily by Barcelona with reports even suggesting the Catalans are willing to splash as much as €10m for the right full back who impressed the team’s technical team after performing admirably well in a UEFA youth league game against them.

Ex-Man United Star Praises New Signing Olosunde

Former Manchester United midfielder and now head of academy Nicky Butt says he is excited about the potential of recent signing Matthew Olosunde, who was born in the United States to Nigerian parents.

The 18-year-old Nigerian-American defender signed for United on January 29 , but his arrival was only announced by the club last month after international clearance was received.

Olosunde, who can play at centre-back and right-back, made his debut for the Under-18s in March.

Speaking to Inside United Butt said of Olosunde : “He’s one that’s been ongoing for a while. With the clearance, it took a while, but we’ve got him.

“He’s a good player, a nice lad and a really good athlete. Hopefully, we’ll see a lot from him in the coming years because he’s someone we’re really excited about.”

Manchester Evening News reports that Olosunde, from Trenton, New Jersey, quit New York Red Bulls to go to college and was named as one of Duke University’s six new recruits for the upcoming season.

But just weeks later it was confirmed that he had signed for Manchester United and he was called up for the United States Under-19s shortly after he joined the Reds.

Duke head coach John Kerr told Go Dukes earlier this year: “Matthew is a fantastic player who is comfortable playing in the back or in midfield. He has wicked pace and has incredible defensive recovery speed.

“He has great one vs one instincts on both sides of the ball and will help us right away in a number of positions.”

CHIDERA EZEH MAKING INROADS AT FC PORTO

Nigeria youth international Chidera Ezeh is pulling his weight at FC Porto slowly navigating his way to the first team with impressive performances for the U-19.

Ever present for the youth side of Porto who are presently third after five games in the U-19 league in Portugal, he was once again one of their best legs against their counterparts from Benfica.

He twice came close to opening the scoring for the team missing their best chance in the first half as well as in the second half before they finally got the breakthrough their dominance deserves via the spot.

Already he has scored once for the team and the slick forward who recently signed professional terms with the Portuguese giants is heavily tipped to make a step up to the B team next season.

18 year old Ezeh was part of the Nigeria U-17 team that won the world cup in 2013 and made the U-20 team to the last World cup in New Zealand but didn’t get to play as Nigeria crashed out in the round of 16.

Matthew Olosunde Already Pleasing Manchester United Crowd

United States youth international Matthew Olosunde,18, was one of the six Manchester United players across all levels that was featured in the Trickbox video earlier this week.

The official website of the English Premier League giants shortlisted the youngster along with England skipper Wayne Rooney, Joe Riley, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marcus Rashford and Angel Gomes as the players that produced the most eye-catching skills.

Olosunde was nominated following his impressive skill against Newcastle United 18s when he displayed some excellent footwork to evade two opponents.

The Red Devils U18s thrashed Newcastle United 7-1 at the Aon Training Complex last weekend, with Nigerian midfielder Tosin Kehinde among the scorers.

The New Jersey native completed his move to Manchester United from New York Red Bulls in March.

Tosin Adarabioyo Shines For Man City In Win Over Liverpool U18s, Adekanye&Ejaria Not Involved
Manchester City U18s edged out Liverpool at Liverpool’s Academy Ground (Knowsley, Merseyside) on Saturday morning in the Premier Academy League, thanks to goals from Manu Garcia and Lukas Nmecha.

The home team were without Ovie Ejaria and Bobby Adekanye for this one, while City coach omitted Ashinme Kigbu from the roster.

England youth international Tosin Adarabioyo was drafted into the Citizens U18s squad and was impressive at the heart of their defense with Daniel Grimshaw posting a shutout.

The central defender would have given City the lead in the first half but saw his header saved by Coaimhin Kelleher.

Adarabioyo got 86minutes under his belt before he was replaced by manager Jason Wilcox.

OSIMHEN SCORES TRADEMARK CURLER AS FLYING EAGLES THRASH SIAONE ACADEMY

Victor Osimhen is proving that his showing at the last U-17 World Youth Championship in Chile is not a fluke scoring a sweet curler for the Flying Eagles in a 4-1 thrashing of Siaone Academy in Abuja.

The game a friendly meant to prepare the team for their 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burundi saw the Nigeria team dominating the local side owned by Nigeria U-23 coach.

Osimhen scored a trademark curler, bending his effort from the right to the far corner of the post for his team first goal, a replica of two of the goals he scored at the U-17 WYC that he emerged top scorer with 10 goals.

Nwakali, who won the Most Valuable Player of the same tournament scored from the spot before an own goal confirmed the Amuneke boys dominance which was reduced by the Samson Siasia owned side.

The team of 50 players are currently training twice a day and the friendly is their first in the build up to their game against Burundi in May.

I for one never expected the 2015 Flying Eagles to go very far. And u saw where dey ended.

But there are things this Flying Eagles team has that most of the players of the last Flying Eagles never had: Exposure, maturity and experience.

What if the following players hu are eligible are invited by d coach and dey turn up: Chidera Ezeh, Taiwo Awoniyi, Sadiq Umar, Nura Abdulahi, Chidozie Awaziem, Sincere Seth, Azubuike Okechukwu, Ifeanyi Mathew, Musa Yahaya, Chigozie Obasi, Zaharadeen Bello. Then u include players from d 2015 U17: Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Orji Okonkwo, Funso Bamgboye, and co. Remember some players hu we dnt know abt yet Will impress in camp get selected. The starting 11 of this team would b so very competitive.

Look at this temporary starting line up for instance:

.................Udoh

Seth/Nura..Awaziem..Bello/Zakari..Anumudu?

..........Azubuike
...........................K.Nwakali

Chukwueze......Mathew.........Yahaya

............Osimhen/Sadiq

Even if there are no new inclusions, with d team as it is above we can go for d title.

Check out the 5 players in that midfield.

There is no reason whatsoever why coach Amuneke shouldn't invite these players u mentioned above, but I'm afraid he won't do so 4 one reason or another.
But sir Icon if it is possible,do try to suggest to coach Amuneke to visit this thread once in a while,I'm sure he will benefit a lot from some the fantastic ideals on this thread, especially on the choice of the players he would be selecting.

Iheanacho Watches As City Defender Adarabioyo, Chelsea Young Stars Ugbo&Tomori

Chelsea U18s played out a 1-1 draw against Manchester City U18s in the first leg of the 2016 FA Youth Cup final held on Friday night to put themselves in a good position to win the competition for the third year running.

Three players of Nigerian descent, Ike Ugbo, Fikayo Tomori(both Chelsea) and Tosin Adarabioyo were included in the starting line-up of their respective teams, while City youngster Dele-Bashiru watched proceedings on the bench.

The scoreline remained goalless at half time but Fikayo Tomori and Ugbo had decent opportunities to break the deadlock .

Nemane restored parity for the Citizens in the 68th minute after Mount had opened scoring for the Young Blues five minutes out of intermission.

A number of Manchester City first team players, including Vincent Kompany,Raheem Sterling and Kelechi Iheanacho, were present at the Academy Stadium.

The second leg of the FA Youth Cup will hold on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.

Osimhen scores twice as Flying Eagles dump Ace Academy

Victor Osimhen scored twice as the Flying Eagles continued their winning streak with a 4-1 drubbing of Ace Academy of Kaduna in a test game on Saturday.

Kelechi Nwakali also scored from the penalty spot and Samuel Chukwueze equally hit target.

The Flying Eagles were tentative against a very spirited Ace Academy at the start of the game, but the gulf in class later showed when coach Emmanuel Amuneke brought in his first-team stars.

The Nigeria U20s have already beaten Sia-One Academy 4-1 and Dabo Babes of Kano 6-0 in other test games.
They are preparing for an U20 AFCON qualifier against Burundi next month.

This means that the top players will still come from the U17 2015 winning squad. No break through talent, if the same names showed the Gulf in class.

I know that his chief media officer during the 2015 U17 used to visit nairaland bt i dnt know abt the current one.

Let us jst play our part of suggesting players these would surely get to him some how.

My fingers are still crossed on the early stages of the team... It's still the beginning. I expect to see a few breakthrough talents.

Meanwhile, reports have it that David Enogela was dropped from camp due to an injury he carried. My guess is Amuneke wanna work with fit players only so it's not over for Enogela yet (I hope?). He could still rejoin the team and fight for a place provided he gets okay soon.
