First of all I'm gonna salute all those who have to deal with customers everyday: Frebor, Slye, Acunon, Initialize etc. I know you must have had a fair share of unreasonable customers who have silly requests, offer ridiculous amounts for your items and who are just plain stupi.d and rude.

I think it's time to call out the excesses of these customers. I'm going to narrate an example of a stupid customer.

I posted an advert for brand new units of the Umi Touch and Ulefone Power earlier today. For those who sell Chinese phones or who have bought in the past, you'll know that these phones do not come sealed. If a phone is sealed, that's fine. But if it isn't, it doesn't mean that the phone isn't brand new. Even Xiaomi phones don't come with a break proof seal.

So this guy contacts me and says he is interested in getting the Umi Touch. I tell him the price and he mentions that he heard the phone is still on pre-sales and not yet available, so he wants pictures to show proof. I send him pictures of the phone packed and unpacked. Only for him to tell me that he wants a unit that is sealed. I tell him that's not possible. Firstly, the phone isn't sealed even from the factory. Secondly, I opened the unit with me to take pictures for you to show you that I have the item and didn't just pick pictures from the internet.
I can't start to explain the level of ignorance of this fellow. I even tried to "borrow him sense" but he wanted to remain ignorant. He eventually said he'll go and buy from someone else. I hope he finds a place where they sell sealed units.

Sometimes I go through nairaland and I see people asking for price quotes for phones. You give them the price and they start doing analysis for you. Oga if you know the price why don't you go and buy it abi you don't know the way to China or US? Some will even say they'll wait till the price comes down. grin Jokers.

To sum it all up, if you're a customer and you're not being reasonable with your inquiries and statements, I'll expose your stupidity to the world irrespective of your age. If I take time to explain things to you and you feel that you know better, then you shouldn't have come to me in the first place. Just from talking to you I can tell if you are knowledgeable or a dim-witted fool.

So scratch the statement that says the customer is king.
The correct version goes thus:
The reasonable customer is king. grin

My brother, that is what I see most times. You try to make them happy and they will see it as if you want to scam them off. Please just ignore and move on.

coming here to create this post shows how childish you are and how shallow you are in the business world.

If you're truly a business spirited person, you won't be moved by a client's stupidity... Instead you'll learn from every stupidity that ur client has exhibited n go ahead to still prove ur facts to the client n win him/her to buy ur goods or grow interest in buying...

Example: (if I were u) I'll refer/post YouTube links of several unboxing videos proving that most if not all Chinese phones don't come sealed.

So next time when you come across such client again, handling him/her will be easier coz:
you've had similar encounter,
You've learned,
And you're ready.

To me, Meeting stupid clients is usually fun coz I'll proof myself until I sell my product. Above all I'll learn something new on what my audience doesn't knw yet and add it to my marketing skill.

#Peace!!!

One thing I've learnt is that the real customers don't bother bumping your sales thread. They will rather call and seal the transaction as swiftly as possible.

Don't let the time waster customers knock your hustle.

Whether the buyer is stupid or wise... Your goal as a business man is to sell your product or service... Having the mind set the the buyer stupid might make it impossible for you to tap into the opportunity present.

Acunon and co may have had their own fair share of silly customers, but you are a very s.i.l.l.y pompous seller that deserves no business.

whether or not a customer is sensible, the best you can do is ignore. THE BEST. you need not come here with your silly typing skills and rants to abuse customers that are ignorant of chinese products. You that you are fully aware of chinese products but ignorant of customer care skills, what is the difference between both of you now? And now that you have decided to come here and display your - please dont let me use the word that came to mind- ignorance, are we supposed to clap for you and quickly buy your UMI products without questioning you or negotiating or looking for a better deal (and even saying that to your face)?

I advise you take care of your UMI customers so you may start having Samsung and Iphone products to sell to future customers. kpshew

The reasonable customer is KING Habeeb.

Customers can be a pain in the a** but it is your duty as a refined businessman to walk them through any apprehensions they may have.

I have had my fair share of customers on NL and there is never a one solution fits all module. We learn per customer and it is where we derive growth.

For every customer even (which we all are for various products) , the golden rule should be exerted in dealing with sellers or organizations. Apply it always and you'd be much better.

P.S> I know you were annoyed my buddy but I humbly do not think this post was necessary. Best is to leverage on that customer's ignorance and enlighten him or better still in your words "borrow him sense". If these fall on deaf ears, it's probably not your deal. Politely retract.

Cheers!

The bane of SILLY customer So this is how u described your potential customers? In my opinion, are you not the silly seller? Go and take a course in marketing, whereby you don't want to meet SILLY customer in your life, change business or better still take up office job. You are too big to engage in marketing business.

The Customer is the king is unchangeable no matter your perception.
Re: The Bane Of Silly Customers by Habeebpain(m): 5:36pm On Apr 16, 2016
Trust me you barely know me. I've got so many customers who have become very close pals. It has nothing to do with pride of being too big to market. I try to offer the best form of customer service to potential customers. No matter how hard you try, some customers still act like jerks. You try to explain things to them, give them proof, and all that. But like they say, a dog that will get lost won't hear the whistle of the hunter.

@eghosa1 I tried to enlighten him. I did. He asked for pictures and I sent them. He now said he wants a sealed unit. Even if there is a sealed unit, who should buy the opened one?

customer can be funny, in my opinion you don't need to start these thread. If you really want to you should change the topic like "my experience with nairalander" or just try not to use offensive word like silly. I have a lot of experience with customer, you just have to manage them ni. ........we are all from different background so we behave and understand things different. I have a customer from Enugu who want me to send lapi to him after I tried my best to prove to him am legit am not going to run with his money he go ahead to start a thread title "has anybody have successfully biz with sinebaba" thanks to good customers they replied, my head dey swell up. After all the prove and the stress of chatting with d guy he came with idea that I should deliver the lapi to his cousin at surulere. I simply replied if the prove you have is not OK by you, I can't do biz with you.

Nigeria!!!!!
The problem with this country I will say again is people think they are doing you a favour when they do what they are paid to do.
How can you start a thread cos someone didn't patronise u with this kind of heading?
I made a purchase on ITunes store Dec 31 by mistake while playing a game... in app purchase.,they debited my Mastercard. I mailed them and even though I was at fault they refunded my money within 72hrs with a gift for the holiday n apologies.
CHANGE!!!!
if u want to stay in business and take a course in CRM.
Re: The Bane Of Silly Customers by africanboy(m): 6:23am On Apr 17, 2016
@habeebpain, I am probably one of those silly customers you are referring to, but unlike you, I won't take offence. The customer IS king. I am an IT consultant and I know how many times I have travelled (spent my money) to convince a client to patronise me just for me to hear excuses. Do I insult them? No. I look for other services to offer them.

I have patronised a lot of people on Nairaland (@initialize, @tim2will, @bedlam etc) and they will testify that not all sales are instant. Sometimes, the customer needs to do a lot of research before making a purchase to avoid buyer's remorse. I have bought a device that was quite expensive and the following day couldn't get a buyer wanting to pay more than half the price. If you were the initial seller, would you take returns?

Get down from your highness and respect your customers. I may not be into retail sales, but I know that as a customer, I am king. And as a king, one of my acts will be to avoid doing business with you.
Re: The Bane Of Silly Customers by initialize(m): 11:13am On Apr 18, 2016
@habeeb

Some customer need to understand that we retailers are also customers to our supplier. Some customer tend to ask too much questions, it's not a problem to seek information but it's best when you inquire from the right/most reputable source.

If I want to buy any product, I google search the product for product specifications, user review and feedback. I also visit YouTube to check the unboxing and test video of the product to be sure I know the product enough to want to have. Then I do a price check to know if it's the best available product for my budget or price allocated to buy such product. There are some thread that also discuss products on Nairaland and you can enquire from posters/user on such thread.

If most customers can do this, you will already know what to expect, be sure of what you are getting and you will only have to confirm from the seller if the product is same, the contents in the box, any additional content, possibly discount on price and mode of payment/delivery.

So I implore customers and cosellers not to vex for each other but just do the right thing grin.

If your customer is reluctant to search for information themselves you can redirect them to the links to sites hosting such info.
