RESCUE MISSION/ Adoption Of A 3 Year Old Rottweiler by kenzspunpy(m): 2:09pm On Mar 24, 2016
Initial post: "hi guys. i am in the process of adopting an untrained 2 year old rottweiler. i have limited experience with this breed, as i've only kept 2 GSDs in the past. However, my wife has fallen in love with this particular rott. I've got a little boy of 3 and girl aged 5. my worries;
is it safe to bring this dog in?
what are the necessary steps to take towards integrating this dog with my family?
is it still possible to give this dog basic obedience training( i intend to do that,as i've always trained my GSDs myself)
how easily can i assume the alpha status, given the age and perceived stubborn nature of rotts?

positive comments are welcomed pls"

So, I finally took the rott home and my family love this dog. Infact, we all went to bring her in together. While at my friend's, I saw another male Boerboel there. The dog has been so maltreated. Chained on a spot and not allowed to move. I asked why the dog was chained and kept in an uncompleted building, I was told it's because the dog is always bullied by his older GSD. He added that he doesnt like the dog as it doesn't bark and looks timid. He has 4 dogs and doesn't take care of them well. He just kept them because he lives in an isolated place. No training, no care. Just feeding them what he likes. He claims the dog has taken necessary vaccines,which I doubt.

I felt pity for it and asked to take it along. The owner willingly agreed. I've heard several stories of dog rescue here, particularly Boerboels and I'm motivated to be part of it (Vicdamn, Coolsmithz readily comes to mind). I took both dogs in yesterday. I'm about taking them to the vet.
The Boerboel looks ok but malnurished. I immediately got him glucose and milk. I fed indomitable with egg, but he refused to eat. I had to buy him raw meat and he consumed it speedily. I'm on my way to the vet now. Updates later. I just pray I'm able to do this because I'm always busy. I will give it my best shot and I'm sure wifey will help.

**** after all, the last picture here represents what u was able to do for the dog in 44 days. That is from time of rescue 24th March to 7th May. Within this period, the dog visited a vet just once. All I did was concentrate on feeding as well as application of shea butter on the skin, which I did for about 8 days....

Thanks bro, I'm grateful. I actually brought the dog in this morning. My wife and kids are so much in love with it. The dog is calm. The dog appears to have a calm temperament. I've been spending time with it because of the holiday. I wantedtaking him to a vet immediately, but my vet asked I come today.

Update
I took both dogs to the vet. Since we are not sure of how ell they've been treated (I can't see their cards), the vet decided to give them all the necessary fresh treatment. They were both given thorough bath. I have never seen the kind of tick on the Boerboel (bigboy)before. That dog has really suffered. Bigboy took a total of 5 injections wit so many drugs. I bought jojo food with some can foods for him. I've made the glucose and milk a daily affair so far. He looks better after the visit to the vet. I'm happy I have the dog.

As for the rott (Increase) she's doing just fine. I later got to know that the dog will be 3 years by June. The Boerboel is just a 13 months old. I noticed the Boerboel is so jealous. He wants all the attention. I'm trying to show both dogs that they all matter. Not easy raising to grown dogs

Thanks bro. I'm just inspired by the success story of Vicdamn, barcaboi and Coolsmithz. I have a little challenge here. I don't know how to go about the feeding of the dog, big boy. So far, I feed him Milk and glucose 1st every morning, before serving Jojo dry food. I brought him in around 11am on Friday and was able to feed him twice that day. He was fed 3 times yesterday. (The milk and glucose is just extras). I intend to bath him again today after church, even though he had a bath at the vet yesterday. This is because of the huge tick on his body.
So, I ask for advice for Vicdamn, Coolsmithz, barcaboi, Mckandre, Oluomoadebayo, Jado, Bobbysaxy and other members of this great forum to guide on how to feed this poor dog. Also, the air on the skin is kind of bad, though the vet says he doesn't have any skin issue. I have been looking for coconut oil so I can rub on the skin. That's kinda scarce here in abuja.

As for the Rott, she calm and doing well.
Off to church!

Try adding other protein sources instead of the milk,the bb is already a big dog so fish,chicken,beef and pork is what's best for him now,especially pork, also try reading up barcaboi and vicdamn s threads they would be a great source of information...my two cents

Thanks. I was at Garki market after church today, but was unable to see any of them. Probably because it's a Sunday. Will check again tomorrow.
I will make sure I feed him on those. How many times should I feed him daily? I intend to do th rice daily today and tomorrow and revert to twice daily as from Tuesday., since I will resume work. Is that OK? I got him a full chicken to day. Will boil and feed him that today and tomorrow.

I definitely will. I just got them 2 days ago. I want a little improvement on the boerboel before I post picture updates.

They both had chicken for lunch. I wanted to concentrate feeding on the boerboel, but I don't want the Rott to feel neglected so I always feed them both, even thought the boerboel gets the bigger portion. The chicken was consumed in seconds!

I notice that the rott doesn't like the Jojo dry food I feed her with because she's always leaving some quantity behind. So far, it has been good. Picture updates will come soon.

UPDATE :
Bigboy got his second birth in in 3 days today. Luckily, the ticks are dead, meaning the 1st bath and tick injection worked. I was able to get rid of all the tick I saw in his ears. Last night, I released the rott to roam at night while the boerboel remained in the cage. I left him there because I want him to gain some weight before I unleash him. I had a walk with the two of them for about 30 mins yesterday though.
However, I noticed the boerboel cried a lot last night. Is it because I left him in the cage while the rott was allowed to roam? He's also been crying since the 2nd birth. Infact, it took a lot of effort to put him back in the cage and hes been ceying every since. Should I unleash him this night?

So, I finally got the coconut oil and shea butter at a store. I have been applying it consecutively on BB for 3 days. He's been eating well too. This is what he looks like exactly 6 days after rescue

UPDATE
Bigboy is continuing in his recovery to full health. Work has been a little hectic, however, I still take time to see to his feeding on a daily basis. The skin appears to be much better now thanks to shea butter and coconut oil. The dog is gaining some weight. I make sure he's fed twice daily. Dog biscuits in the morning and meat at night. However, I noticed that the stool is so watery and frequent whenever I feed him meats. I guess it has to do with the source of the meat, which is from a nearby meat seller. Hence, i stopped the meat and tried to introduce potatoes and other normal food, but he doesn't eat these stuffs well.
Here are the pictures taken 16 days after rescue;

Another thing, Bigboy is a very agile dog. I take him and the rottweiler on a walk almost every night for about 3km daily and they seem to enjoy it.
