The fitness of the mind or mental fitness is as important as that of the body. The mind has as an amazing capacity. In fact, there is no limit to its power. Today, you will learn the techniques for the improvement of your smart and dull memory or mental capacity.

The power of the mind or mental fitness can be extended to a limitless extent. It is said that Lucius Scipio could remember the names of all the people who lived and worked in Rome during his existence.

Retaining and remembering the relevant information is necessary but it is neither advisable nor possible to retain each and every piece of information that your brain receives during your lifetime.

How your brain manage information: Mental fitness

Your brain simply removes the ones that are not useful and retain the ones that are useful.

You know that we cannot possibly remember everything. To make your memories serves you intelligently, you have to be able to choose the things you want to remember and concentrate on developing selective type of memory.

So, to develop your memory in order to increase your personal efficiency you must first choose the kind of remembering on which you want concentrate.

To help you deiced what kind memory you want cultivate, you must decide the kind of things you want to remember and retain on them.

Why should you suffer yourselves with the tragic incidents that happened in your lives? Why not clear the junk to accommodate more useful information? Unclutter your mind, keep positive information and junk the negative ones.

I bet you can’t, simply, because it is not used every day. You will have to make big effort to seek it out from the bottom of the stack of information that is stored in your brain. To remember easily, information has to be organized and meaningful, and needs to come to you at a slow pace so as to process it.

The reason for most of the annoying instances of forgetting is that you do not take the trouble to connect new information with some fact you already know. Isolated facts drop out of the mind quickly, but if you file new knowledge in relation to something already established in your mind, you will retain it and be able to remember it whenever you need it. It is simply a matter of making special use of your power of association, which is the beginning of learning process. mental fitness makes you a topper and it improves you daily.

1. Interference: Honestly speaking, when there is a problem with the recall of an event, because there is some other event that interferes, it is called memory interference. The learning of new information may sometimes interfere with the memory of similar information learned earlier. For example, you bought a new car and tried to remember the registration number of this car, you are likely to find that the registration of your old car keeps popping up in your mind. But after few weeks when you have learnt the new registration number, you may find it difficult to remember the old one.

2. Retrieval failure: It happens to all of us at some point or the other. we are in the midst of a conversation and the talk hovers around the works of a famous Nigerian music producer e.g. Don Jazzy. You have listened to the songs produced by Don Jazzy and want to tell your friends about it. You have the name of the song on the tip of your tongue but it wouldn’t surface. Hours later, it suddenly pops up in your memory system. This temporary loss of memory known as retrieval failure.

3. Motivated failure: Motivated forgetting is about the things we want to block out from our memory. If we do not want to recall a particular unpleasant episode of our life, we simply block it and won’t remember it. It is also known as repression.

Tip. To possess a good memory, you have to possess to power of observation. The reason is quite simple. It is the observation power, which makes your memory good and it improves your mental fitness.
