iblawi:@iblawi with these experience of CTCION and the military purchase of equipment/hardware we should be contesting with Egypt. I see BH as a kind of blessing in disguise. Years of military decay, gradually we are getting back what's wrightfully ours....... .SA should be mind full of Angola ![]() |

This ranking is flattering and certainly welcome. However, i have my fears. The ranking is probably driven by our recent re-arming and re-training (people might not agree but the kudos for these go entirely to the much maligned GEJ regime). However until we domesticate the technology and tactics we have acquired (as South Africa has done), our ability to sustain them is questionable. Thus it is very possible that in another 10 years most of the new equipment would be unserviceable like our T55 and vickers MBTs, scorpion light tanks etc. list goes on and on. we must swiftly backward integrate to manufacture the key components of these key weapon systems till we can at least sustain them indefinitely. Also very key is the ability to make the ammunition and projectiles that these weapon systems use. Today (as happened to GEJ's regime) if the major powers refuse to supply us, those tanks and aircraft would run out of ammunition and become useless in not more than 3-6months of combat. These must be our focus in the near to medium future. |

SergeAlain:Too much grammar!! South-Africa has done what? 5 Gripen pilots for 26 fighter jets, is this the example worthy of emulation? Some Nigerians refer to the SANDF as more technologically advanced than Nigeria, and i cannot help but laugh. In what areas is the SANDF more technological advanced? |

SergeAlain:GEJ you just dey mention makes the whole story tire me. Regime dat bought 4 su25 for $400 million and 2 mi35 helicopter for over $120 million ? Till now we haven't seen any. He wasted our fund and shouldn't be praised. Yes he bought some things but at what cost? Secondly, most of the things south Africans claim to produce are not wholly made in south Africa. Most of the components are imported from Europe and when they are sanctioned they will lose access to the components and won't be able to produce them. This is another reason why they can't produce hareware at a cost lesser than the Europeans in most cases. The only advantage is that they have their people involved in the process of assembling/production. Good examples are rooivlak helicopter which is actually French product, hawk which is British, A-darter which never reach meaningful stage until Brazilians came in, even the tanks and IFVs they claim to produce are British and European product. Same with many other shiny things you see from south Africa. They were only taking advantage of having white who can easily get tech transfer from Europe. Look at other countries that produce weapon that are not Europeans, they actually produce and sell equipment at a lesser price which make their product competitive. Examples are Russia, China, Iran, Israel, Pakistan, India etc. Have you ever heard Germans contracting their military hardware maintenance to a foreigner? No , because they understand the product enough and can even maintain them at a cheaper price. But south Africa contract some product they claim to produce to Cuban cos they provide better maintenance and at a cheaper rate. Their are a lot of things you need to open your eyes in order see whats happening. |

UPDATE ON OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE: TROOPS REPELLED ATTACK AND RESCUE 455 ABDUCTED PERSONS *******(WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGE)******** Today (Friday), in the early hours, some elements of Boko Haram terrorists in 5 gun trucks, motorcycles and 2 Golf cars laden with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from Sambisa forest axis attempted an attack on 121 Task Force Battalion at Pulka. The ever alert and vigilant troops rose to the occasion and successfully repelled the attack and killed 7 Boko Haram terrorists, wounded several others and recovered 4 AK-47 rifles, 3 AK-47 rifle magazine and 92 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) belt ammunition. We wish to state that our troops are hale and hearty. In a related development, troops of 3 Battalion caught a suspected Boko Haram terrorists’ spy near the Battalion Headquarters at Gamboru Ngala. On interrogation, he confessed that he was sent to spy on the troops from Wulge. Consequent upon this the troops organized a fighting patrol comprising elements of Army Headquarters Strike Group and Civilian JTF to Wulge and Walamari. The troops had encounter with Boko Haram terrorists in which they killed 27 of them, recovered 5 motorcycles and 8 bicycles. They also cleared 12 terrorists’ camps and recovered 1 AK-47 rifles as well as 1 Dane gun. The troops also rescued 455 persons and escorted them to Gamboru Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camp. Unfortunately, we lost one of the Civilian JTF. Nevertheless, the troops’ morale remains very high. Similarly, troops of 103 Battalion this evening ambushed Boko Haram terrorists at Mairimri village crossing point in which they killed quite a number of terrorists, recovered 15 bicycles and foodstuffs. bidexiii:Within the force. Instructors, test pilots, analysts(Air power) etc The pilots flying the Gripens belong to 2 squadron. |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by bidexiii(op): 5:25pm On Apr 16, 2016 |
MikeCZA:Explanatory well....... but it shouldn't affect the total numbers of active Gripens and pilots who fly them..? Test pilots, instructors, operational pilots & analysts ; all are qualified pilots. Infact you have to be a very experienced pilot to be an instructor/analyst...etc. |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by MikeCZA: 7:35pm On Apr 16, 2016 |
bidexiii:The SAAF is underfunded. Maintaining a large number of pilots with the fighter squadron would be expensive meaning their flying hours will have to be cut so the air force has stationed a small number of pilots with 2 squadron. An example a Gripen stationed in Cape town at the TFDC used. 2 squadron is stationed in Limpopo(North of the country), the pilot is probably a test pilot: http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-41743/ We are in Africa no country can deliver publishing air strikes like the Russians or NATO countries, no country in sub Saharan Africa can deploy 9+ frontline fighters outside it's boarders. |

Nigerian army opens rehab centres for ‘repentant’ Boko Haram insurgents The Nigerian military authorities, on Saturday, announced the opening of a rehabilitation camp for repentant members of Boko Haram terrorist sect. This was disclosed by the Acting Director, Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar, during a telephone chat with Punch Newspapers. The military spokesperson, however, failed to disclose the location of the camp for security reasons, saying that the defense headquarters expects more terrorists to surrender. He noted that the inmates will be treated in line with global best practices and that they will be given vocational training and rehabilitated for easy reintegration into society. “Definitely, the camp is there, and we are working round the clock to fix everything, and all what is required will be there and then we will move.” “The camp is open, whether in Borno, in Mubi, in Jigawa; the camp is the camp and we have opened it, and people will come to know where the camp is.” “We’d not want to disclose where the camp is for security reasons. We hope that more would surrender when the set of those who surrendered are being treated in line with global best practices, that would attract them.” |

TROOPS CLEAR BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS OUT OF BIGGORO AND WARPAYA Today, Saturday 16th April 2016, troops of 7 Division Strike Group Team B and 22 Task Force Brigade conducted a simultaneous dawn raid on suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts at Biggoro, Warpaya and Aura, North of Kumshe in Bama Local Government Area. The essence of the operation was stop the reported criminal activities of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the three villages. This became necessary as previous efforts were futile. The suspected terrorists kept coming in search for food, water and shelter. The surprised dawn attack yielded positive result as the troops discovered well concealed observation posts on trees in the villages constructed by the terrorists to give them early warning of troops movement or approach. In addition the troops found out that the observation posts though tree tops, were constructed in such a manner with chairs and ropes to pull up foods and other needs by the sentry without necessarily coming down the trees. To also save for the rainy day, the terrorists had underground food storage facilities where they stocked large quantity of foodstuffs. The troops killed 2 Boko Haram terrorists and also recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunitions. They also recovered 2 motorcycles from them. In addition they rescued 2 children from the terrorists. Thank you for your cooperation. Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman Acting Director Army Public Relations
