The Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Major General LEO Irabor will hold a media briefing here in Biu on the discovery of large cache of arms and ammunitions and other developments in the Theatre. Details shortly.
The Nigeria Army on Sunday disclosed the recovery of large cache of arms buried in the hinterlands of Borno State at a spot made to look like a graveyard.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Leo Irabor, said but for the vigilance of soldiers the grave, which concealed a cache of high calibre ammunition, worth over N20 million, would have remained unnoticed.

Mr. Irabor, a Major General, said the quantum of ammunition recovered is capable of deflating the morale of a full battalion if it remains in the hands of a capable enemy.

Mr. Irabor, who spoke to journalists in Biu, Southern Borno State during an ongoing tour of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, said the discovery was made three days ago when his men received some hint regarding the activities of Boko haram terrorists before they fled from Alagarno.

“We conducted some various scale of operation as well as specific operations that led to the recovery of arms cache in the village called Gursum, around Alagarno general area; and there we had a very sterling discovery of Boko Haram terrorists burying large quantities of ammunition on the ground”, he said.

“This operation was in conjunction with the Civilian JTF because they led us through the routes. We recovered 36 boxes of .50MM which is equivalent to 12.7mm buried concealed as though it was a grave .

“We also got 5/20 lethal brief case as well as a mixture of 7.6 mm NATO and 7.62mm special. These ammunitions were all concealed in plastic containers which we recovered. In addition we got 1/81 NATO tube that was wrapped in cellophane and buried on the ground.

DS CHALLENGES MILITARY TO BE COMBAT READY

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin has charged personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces to brace up for the security challenges ahead by improving on their combat readiness and weapon handling.

The CDS made the remarks recently during the Nigerian Army annual range classification exercise at the 177 Guards Battalion Range, Keffi, Nassarawa State. Nigerian Airforce Commences Night Flying Training In Lagos

Lagos State Government has advised Lagosians not to panic as the Nigerian Air Force commences night flying training exercise in the state tonight.

The exercise according to the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, is to commence today 18th to 23rd April, as from 7.00pm – 11.00pm daily.

This exercise will involve the usage of the C-130 Hercules Aircraft by the Nigerian Air Force and the 201 Heavy Airlift Group.

The Commissioner further explained that the C-130 Hercules Air craft will fly very low in some locations across the State, but assured that residents should not panic as all precautionary and safety measures have been put in place.

He assured that residents should go about their normal duties, as the exercise is to be conducted with a very insignificant discomfort.

“The only unusualness of the exercise is the low flying nature of the air craft and the increase in noise level which will be noticed during the six days exercise, only along the training routes,” Ayorinde said.

Boko Haram produces Bio-fuel to power motorbikes

Boko Haram has been forced to produce its own fuel to power its motorbikes because of an acute petrol shortage caused by a military squeeze on supply lines. A senior military source said the Islamists were paying huge sums of money for jerrycans of fuel while a woman who recently escaped from the group said they were making groundnut oil into biodiesel. “Boko Haram were paying outrageous sums to get fuel and the incredible profit margin made young men defy the risk and take fuel to them,” said the source in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri. “The cutting off of fuel supplies has badly crippled Boko Haram and that has been made possible by blocking all identified supply routes and the crackdown on the suppliers,” he told AFP. Fuel vendors seeking to exploit the group’s need for fuel could sell each 25-litre jerrycan for 50,000 to 70,000 naira ($250-$350, 222-311 euros) each, said escapee Ya-Mairam Ya-Malaye. A jerrycan of fuel in Maiduguri costs only $13. But the risk of being caught up in a military aerial bombardment on Boko Haram positions has forced the vendors to stay away, said the security source. Babakura Kolo, a civilian vigilante assisting the military against the Islamic State group affiliate in Maiduguri, said the militants would pay any amount to get fuel. “It was a lucrative business for the fuel vendors,” said Kolo, who was involved in the crackdown against Boko Haram suppliers in the city. “But we have taken care of them and Boko Haram are feeling the crunch because they are out of supplies.” Previous reports have indicated the rebels are also running low on food. – Groundnut oil – Nigeria and its neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger began a concerted fight-back against Boko Haram in January last year, recapturing territory lost to the militants the previous year. President Muhammadu Buhari has said the rebels, whose insurgency has killed an estimated 20,000 people and forced some 2.6 million to flee since 2009, can no longer fight conventional warfare. Instead of its trademark hit-and-run attacks using pick-up trucks mounted with heavy machine guns, the insurgents have even mounted strikes on remote villages on horseback, bicycles or on foot. Ya-Mairam Ya-Malaye, a 57-year-old mother-of-eight who was among hundreds of women and children abducted from the town of Bama in September 2014, managed to escape Boko Haram last week. She said the group has devised a crude way of adding salt to oil extracted from groundnuts to make biodiesel for their motorcycles to mount attacks from their Sambisa Forest enclaves in Borno. “They confiscate the groundnuts (that) farmers in villages in and around Sambisa cultivated all-year-round from their farms and irrigation fields,” she explained from Maiduguri. “They crush the nuts using diesel-powered grinding machines to extract the oil to which they add salt to make it light and combustible.” Boko Haram had been getting fuel from young men who would bring the petrol to designated points near Sambisa (forest) for the fighters to pick, she added. Ya-Malaye said she was taken to Sambisa Forest from Bama and moved between camps as troops pushed further into the former game reserve in pursuit of the militants. The offensives and heightened border security made it difficult for the militants to receive deliveries from fuel vendors from Maiduguri and Cameroonian border towns, she added.

Nigeria dos truly have a formidable military now, greater than the days of S-leone and Liberia. Africa's largest and most advanced fleet of Drones, highly advance radar planes, new Tanks, better artillery, lots of rocket artillery, better weapons, new helicopter gunships an the soon to be delivered JF-17......jeez two years ago who would have thought possible? God will surely punish our corrupt past leaders who wasted th lives of soldiers with embezzling funds meant for weapons procurement, sending brave soldiers in the front to fight with 30 rounds of ammo and AK-47's.

Honestly I can't wait for the air-wing of the NA to have its own designated attack helicopters and the NAF with the JF-17 & attack helicopters. Then in months BH will know the full force fire power, they will be forced to surrender or face the full wrath..

Yesterday was a fierce battle between troops and BH in kareto, the earlier these hardware arrives, such fatal injuries might be reversed and there will be no escape route for BH to escape .

Boko Haram is as good as finnished..they are even running out of girls to use as suicide bombers. It is hard to reconcile in my head that a year ago Boko Haram controlled territory the size of Belguim, fast forward today Boko Haram has basically been reduced to nomads. Where is the Chadian army that enjoys crossing into Nigeria without permission and making a mockery of the Nigerian army nd President. With Buhari in power Idris Derby is welcomed to scam Nigeria again by supplying them missiles, or better still making unauthorised incursions into Nigerian territory. Buhari will enact Occupy N'Djamena part 2.

My only frustration is that w are underitilising our potentials. Nigeria today has more Satellites in orbit that the rest of Africa combined. Why does the military not have its own dedicated military satellite. Nigerian engineers built NIGCOMSAT X from scratch, why cant they be contracted to build one for the military. With American and French Drones in the region Nigeria needs its eye in the sky.

Nigeria beat Russia, China and the European Space agency to win a contract on managing Belarus's satellite for fifteen years yet our armed forces lacks its own dedicated military satellite. Which kind country be dis sef?

Broda-man nice contribution to just placed here; BH has be rendered powerless they don't have capabilities again to control areas; there remnants should just be completely swept away.
What all our satellite can't we dedicate some the purpose of aerial intelligence over those conflict areas, and if those satellite do not have such capabilities we can turn to China for assistance for the time being..? Till our military can av there own dedicated satellite, afterall we av the "technological know-how" if we can't beat European countries, china and russia to manage belarus satellite, why can't we plan having ours.

Like what happen in Maiduguri yesterday, almost got out controll for our troops in kareto and what just happened to the ACTING GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 7 DIVISION these morning could av being averted, if we av totall controll and surveillance in our air-space, thanks to the NAF it could av being another set back in the fight against insurgency.

With these in place we can have real time events and situation around conflict zones.

Which fighter jets is the airforce testing in bauchi? It seems they just refitted some of the alpha-jets or MB339 jet. They've being flying since yesterday and even announce on radio that people shouldn't be scared that they are just testing them.
@iblawi the NAF just finished there annual year reunion in bauchi state and to test the newly refurbished jets.
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by intrepidJ: 3:14pm On Apr 19, 2016
Once the squadron of JF-17 is delivered Nigeria should hand over all existing subsonic Alpha Jets to the army aviation unit. Soldiers relying on the Air-force for protection are basically committing suicide. An army with no situation awareness in a combat environment is prone to ambush.
