So, tomorrow's the now-famous 420(pronounced "four-twenty"!

420 is the World Marijuana day and is celebrated by consuming marijuana in any manner possible.

Listed hereunder are the two main ways by which marijuana can be consumed.

1. Smoking - This is the most known one. You may call it the most notorious or the most famous, depending on your disposition to the consumption of marijuana. To smoke marijuana, one needs dried and ground SK(chemically treated marijuana) or the traditional, untreated marijuana(igbo); one also needs rizzler(a small piece of translucent light paper), the most commonly known brand of rizzler is "Roll Bond". Next item needed is someone who someone who can "tie" or "moll" the ground weed. "Molling" is not just about depositing ground SK on a rizzler and rolling it, molling is an art, and as such, guidelines and intricacies are involved in this yet esoteric practise.

2. Cooking it with food - Marijuana can also be added to food as some sort of spice. It can be easily mistaken for thyme because it's dried and small, just like thyme. It is known that SK or marijuana when mixed with food is more potent and long-lasting than one that's smoked.

The most common food SK or weed is cooked with is beans, though it may also be added to indomie, rice(or rice and beans) or added to soups.

When taken this way, the effect will be last longer and may spill to the following day.



Effects and Side-effects of SK

Marijuana intake has both immediate and long-term side effects.

Among the immediate effects are: memory loss, disorientation, Rapid Heart Beat(palpation), lack of physical co-ordination followed by depression or sleepiness. In some cases, panic attacks and anxiety attacks have been associated with marijuana intake.

Among the long term effects are a host of intimidating maladies, viz: bronchitis, increased risk of leukemia, hereditary anomalies etc. THC, the active compound in marijuana, has also been shown by studies to kill brain cells.

Marijuana smoke is also shown to have between 50% and 70% more carcinogenic compounds than a regular tobacco cigarette. It also is linked to lung cancer and other respiratory illnesses.


Having said all these, I should tell my readers that the factors that motivate people to indulge in SK are:

1. Peer pressure.
2. Addiction
