Detailed analysis of how transporters defraud Nigerians in the name of fuel scarcity..................a case study of a transport company in Enugu state. I boarded a bus from Enugu to Nsukka by one of the biggest transport companies in Nigeria (Peace mass transit) precisely last week and was very angry with the way they extort money from the poor commuters in the name of fuel 'scarcity' and hike in prices of petrol. As a result of this, I decided to make a detailed analysis on how this man who has been nurturing an ambition of ruling my dear state in the Governorship capacity has been fraudulently and greedily extorting hard earned money from the masses in the guise that fuel is not affordable and available. To put the record straight, I am not supporting this Government inability to proffer urgent solution that will rescue us from this national embarrassment and menace of scarcity of essential commodity like fuel. However, frankly speaking, fuel was never sold above #250 neither is it scarce at that price anywhere in Enugu during this period of unfortunate fuel scarcity......queue was for people who insist on buying at the Government approved prices. Back to the topic of discussion I boarded a 16-seater Bus from Enugu, Abakpa precisely to Nsukka at the cost of #600 per passenger a journey of 45minutes at most. Now,16x600= #9600 per trip Driver's allowance per trip=#1000 Fuel allowance/trip =#2000 (10 litres@ 200 per litre) Total expenditure=#3000 Balance=9600-3000=#6600. Previously, when fuel was selling for #100/litre, Cost of transportation per passenger= #300 16-seater bus carry 16x300=#4800 Drivers allowance =#700 Fuel 10 litres x100=#1000/trip Total expenditure=1000+700=1700 Balance=4800-1700=#3100 Analysis,if this company was making #3100per trip of a bus that makes average of 4 trips per day and was able to pay taxes, workers and other expenses and still make enough returns on investment, then it is a pure greed to charge such exorbitant price and make double profit in the name of fuel price hike......not minding the fact that the former Governor of the state constructed a good road they ply that makes the journey traffic free, shorter, no potholes and police "no dey collect roja" from them. Sometimes I keep wondering if we all live in the same country when I see people here incessantly complain of No light.........when we enjoy minimum 12hrs of light daily No fuel .........as if una dey drink fuel Always on queue......like say na 1 litre u dey buy daily No employment......like say we no dey live with 25million unemployed youths before now No money.......like say FG dey dash money before abi Buhari sack you from federal Govt appointment. |
