I've been driving for almost 17yrs, but I love to drive with and without shoes. Driving with shoes makes me drive faster and smarter on Lagos roads, while driving without shoes is more like leisure driving to me. Consequently, for health and safety reasons, driving with shoes is safer especially if you drive long distances.

NB: If your vehicle is air-conditioned you can drive with boots or air-tight footwear, but if it doesn't work, plz don't remove those shoes until you get to a secure and personal location where you can remove them without feeling embarrassed........i guess u know what i mean grin.

I've been driving without shoes since 2001,learnt driving from one of my uncles and he used to help people drive cars from the border to other states in Nigeria, most times, these vehicles were smuggled and many of his friends also drove the same way and according to them,it made them sharper on wheels. I've been driving the same way for years,I don't go beyond 60KM/HR with slippers/shoes but can even go beyond 120KM/HR without shoes......

Happy Sunday folks,

I was wondering if I'm the only one that feels weird driving with shoes on. Not necessarily heels, but any form of footwear. I feel obstructed, like, I won't drive properly if I'm not barefooted. Am I the only one?
The time I tried driving without footwear, I felt the car going outta control because I pressed excessively. I wonder why I should take off my shoes just to drive.
By the way, I love Mercedes wink can I make u the 'Mrs'? cheesy

I take it that the OP is new to driving......I also had thesame 'problem' early in my driving days. I couldn't dare drive with shoes on as I felt I wouldn't b able to control the car without my bare feet working the pedals, anything in between was gonna result in an epic fail I thought....things changed as time went by though and I can drive even with heels(I be guy o) or high tops (Abi wetin dem dey call am) now

I beg to differ with you. I have been driving since 1984 and I am more comfortable driving without shoes. Thanks

Did you notice....driving with shoe mess up the side of your shoe mostly the right foot after awhile? I noticed this with my shoes and since then I stopped driving with my shoes on. Any one with this experience should be share too
If driving with shoes mess up one side of your shoes, you can then imagine what driving barefooted is doing to your feet (eventually you will have problems with your feet) Ask a doctor and he will tell you to always drive wearing shoes. A good driving school will insist you learn driving wearing shoes. So protect your feet, and not your shoes.

You got my vote honey!

Save the fact that I just don't feel 'right' driving with my shoes on, I hate the creases driving with shoes on put on my kicks!

Although, it gets frustrating when I've to put them back on every time I alight from one point to the other. For folks who just drive to their offices and stay put for the day, it's no qualms but for say a marketing or business development manager whose job description is to get his ass off the office on the regular, it becomes a real pain in the ass; driving without shoes and putting 'em back on every time you gotta call on a client. Imagine making 20 calls a day!

I prefer driving long distance without shoes, its makes me free, careful&concentrate so as to reduce travelin'time. If its drivin' within town, no need to off ma shoes, especially if i'm wearin' flat shoes.

No one can make me start driving with my shoes on.
Reasons:
1. Im very comfortable with driving without shoes
2. Driving with shoes spoil shoes.
3. Driving with shoes is very risky just imagine when your shoe is trapped in between the turtle and break.
4. My opinion
5. Thank you

When I registered with a driving school, I insisted on wearing my shoes. It was even the instructor who advised that I remove the shoe. SMH for Nigeria.

You are not the only one. I don't drive smart with shoes on. I hate it. Only tried it last week Friday on my way home and it was yuck!

On 3rd mainland bridge, I definitely need the shoes off to keep up back to back with the car ahead to avoid unnecessary road/Lane snatchers

Extra pair of slippers? To a meeting with a Country Manager?

Works when you're maybe not so corporately inclined in business. For me, I know how I curse and swear everytime I have to undo and redo those laces!

I swear, that's EXACTLY how I feel. My feet feel heavy, like stones, if I wear shoes to drive.

What is a Turtle doing in your car, in the driver's footwell? Unless you're taking it to the vet? undecided

Break?? Your shoe may get trapped by your Turtle, and get broken? undecided
