Well, the answers to your questions depend on the breed of rabbits you have. For instance, giant rabbits should not really be your choice when you are aiming at meat production because they have more bone and less meat in terms of meat/bone ratio compared to the commercial breeds like large white/newzelland white etc.Another important factor is that giants do not reach sexual maturity until 8-10months as against 4-5 months for those commercial breeds. It is true giants grow bigger, but not as quickly as commercial breeds which can be over 1kg in only 3months! Again, giants are not good feed converters; they require more feed to give a pound of flesh compared to commercial breeds. Now,l will answer your questions based on commercial breeds since you are looking at meat production.A rabbit can live up to between 8 and 12 years.A doe can give birth to between 6 and 14 kittens at a time and the doe can have between 7 and 9 births a year!

Oh my God! I am presently in Ilorin, but travelling to Ibadan tomorrow.
I would have loved to visit your farm to see things for myself and of course, know more about the business but unfortunately, today is very tight for me.
Hopefully when I get to Ibadan, I will order for a family comprising of a buck and two does. Can you just tell me the price?

Depending on how well you feed them but on the average,5-6 months. For the feed conversion ratio,it largely depends on the quality of the feed you are using.Basically however, rabbit fcr is between 2 and 2.5 If you want to contact me,pls call :08147927990

Good morning all, please I'll like answers to these questions. I've always thought of rabbits as kinda violent animals but nobody seems to be talking about t. Another issue is the market for t, I havent really heard much about t in the S.E, z t that t isn't eaten in those areas? (IMO to be precise), cos I'm thinking getting feed for them (leaves) will b difficult in a place like Lagos or isn't t so?

With due respect sir these are erroneous assumptions; l used to have more of such but today,l blame myself for not starting big when l did start! l tell you, right now l hide from buyers and this is why l sometimes intentionally suspend posting on this forum.People now pay for my rabbits ahead of time. l have said a lot in my past posts;please take your time to read all of our posts here and you will change your opinion completely! On other points, rabbits are never violent animals except for wild rabbits which we don't breed. On the issue of feed, you can alternatively compound using very cheap ingredients like wheat bran, rice bran and pkc...We can always talk more if you want.

Been following dis tread and it's been exciting. Pls, since u r also into fish breeding, hw do u prevent ur hatchlings from dieing? Wot kind of net do u use for d incubation and d type of water source u use. I did some last week, they hatched but all died, very painful.

This is a delightful question! Sincerely l had a couple of challenges when l started even though l had bred rabbits just like most other people when l was a child. No 1: I lost a good number of them to poor pen hygiene. My pens then were the wrong type with little or no space on the floor.Their dung got messed up with the urine and because l usually left it so for long, lots of them contracted some diseases & died! Now l don't let that happen; l simply ensure enough spaces are on the floor to properly drain their urine and this way l can even leave the dung there for long before removing it.No2; There was a time l experimented with putting all males in one large space but the mature ones fought and some died, some other ones sustained series of injuries! The solution is don't put the mature males together.No3:HEAT>Don't rear rabbits In the sun or in any hot place. They cannot manage heat;they will die! l made the mistake before. However,by and large, rabbits are almost the easiest animals to breed! l openly challenge anyone to challenge me on this! Rabbits don't have any problems if you don't invite problems by yourself.
