Crazy Things People Uses To "Cure" Eye Diseases by jauntty(op):
As an Eyecare practitioner , I have worked in both hospitals and communities helping people with their Ocular issues.

Here are some funny substances people apply to their eye in an attempt to cure various eye diseases. Please always seek professional help

1. ONIONS

I don't know how this started but it's quite common and rampant. Some people rub the onion on the eyelids, others will subject themselves to the discomfort of a teary eye with the believe that it will improve the vision

2. URINE

I find this both funny and disgusting at the same time. So this man had cataract and instead of going to the hospital or eye clinic, resorted to using early morning urine for the past 3 years . (I was wowed! Such commitment in error)

3. SUGAR solution

This is popular with people trying to cure "Apollo" or conjunctivitis. I have lost count of people telling me how effective this Sugar therapy is and how it have worked for them. For the record, "Apollo" is self-limiting and will resolve completely even with or without any treatment

4. KEROSINE

This one got me scared. Honestly! Was attending to someone last year, after the routine assessments, I discovered that he had trauma, that was when he said he was advised by a friend to put a drop of kerosine in his eye to cure his red eye. (in my mind I was like 'you should have also lighted a match and apply it too ) grin

5. RED CHALK

Saw this in one of the South West states. I don't understand how they rationalize that rubbing red chalk around the eye can help cure poor vision

I have seen people who have used
-leaves esp moringa
-water
-Salt solution

You guys can add yours and share your experience. grin cheesy grin just for fun. Let's know which one you have used and which one has worked.

Yes.... I just remembered. A woman once told me her granny ask her to be applying breastmilk to her baby's eye. I had to warn her again that.

On a lighter note, that breastmilk could serve BETTER purpose nah grin
