I noticed this evening while driving home that my car's RPM suddenly shots up to about 4000 rpm,I was traveling at a speed of between 80 and 100km per hour. The car is a Toyota highlander 2003 with six plugs.

Is this normal/okay?

Would you advise that I keep driving it in this condition?

What could be the possible cause of this?

Gurus, pls advise me

scan vehicle, possible knock sensor failure.

Thanks Gazzuz... Do u advise I drive the car to work tomorrow or I should not drive until car is scanned and the issue fixed?

You can still drive it, but expect higher than normal fuel consumption & excessive strain on your engine.
The choice is now entirely yours on what to do.

pls i wano ask..can my honda halla be scanned.
does it have scanning sensor or wateva required..
gurus pls share from ur previous experience wit honda halla
accord 1990-93

You are gradually killing the engine. Better get it fixed before it creates other problems for u aside digging holes in your pocket fuel wise. Meanwhile check the evap lines for cracked/leaking hose
