I am not sure how to get it through to you but this is the basics of the business of sports: Entertainment == $$.
If you have an entertaining league then the TV revenue will be higher. The revenue potential of a league is hampered if you just have two teams dominate and make a lion's share of the revenue from the league.
You can laugh at the EPL all you want. It is the most followed league and has highest median salary of comparable leagues.
