Rihanna is offering financial support to students through her charity foundation.

It means people from under-privileged backgrounds will get help paying school fees.

The Clara Lionel Foundation has been in operation since 2012, offering grants to local schools in Barbados and support to cancer patients.

Rihanna's grandmother died of cancer the same year, inspiring her interest in supporting healthcare.

I don't think it's fair that children carry the burden of financial limitations at such a young age

Now the organisation has expanded with scholarships of up to $50,000 (£34,600) available to students in Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica and the United States.

"I don't think it's fair that children carry the burden of financial limitations at such a young age," Rihanna says.

"We launched the CLF grants initiative this year.

"These are basic needs that these children don't have in these schools - something as simple as clean bathrooms."

"We want college graduates in our programme," she adds.

"A lot of these kids are very smart and they're doing really well in school but they may not have the access or the financial stability to take it any further than that, so that's why we started this programme.

"Every child has something they aspire to be and that's why, for me, arts and culture might not be literally putting someone on stage, but just giving them an outlet to do something they love, keep them focused on positive things."

Nigerian celebrities are not trying in terms of having charity organizations to help the poor. But if it's to show off their wealth, they are very good at that. Imagine someone like Linda Ikeji will spend money that someone can use to run an MSc program overseas on a bag and be proud of it. Yes it's her money and she worked hard for it but think about it, investing in people who can help other people vs buying a bag that will just sit in your closet 95% of the time.
