Not his job per se. He is a corp Marshall and not a FRSC officer.

He's a special Marshall. A volunteer for the FRSC, the special Marshall initiative is no doubt a good one.

Wonder what the requirements are ? This person is one of the responsible ones, unlike others who just pay for the vest and use it to intimidate motorist.

Its a pity that traffic officers are allowed to close precisely at the time of the day that their services are most needed (rush hour at 5pm)

Why do I have the feeling the OP is the man in the picture? He just seems to me so much to be trying to praise the man by all means. grin

How did you get to know that the man is not a road safety official if you said you just saw him randomly trying to control traffic?

How did you know he just left work if you didn't know him before then?

Lastly, how did you get to know the man's name?

Lol....OP confess and tell us some things.
grin

By the way, nice work.

MODIFIED: Ok, I just read again that the OP said the man and himself work at the same place.
Pardon my initial 'jump-and-pass' reading style.

the modified comment cracked me up

Have you seen someone whose brain is in the south side?
OK. Ignoring your bad "inglis". There is a difference between a Regular Marshall and Special Marshall.
While one wears uniform and is under govt payroll, the other does not wear any form of uniform and he commits himself voluntarily.
If you think what he does is no big deal, then I challenge you to be a Special Marshall.

U see? Ignorance is a very big disease.

That man is a special marshal, no one pays him a dime.

He goes out of his wa to make sure of free flow of traffic for other road users without expecting N1 from anyone.

That is commendable.

They are called special marshals. Normal Nigerians like you and I who volunteer to use their spare time to serve FRSC. Some are called upon, but most are volunteers.

Source: My mother is/was (not sure now) one.

My Father was once a Special Marshall of the FRSC when it first started.

Once in a while, they use to have these Checkpoints where the stopped vehicles, run checks, issue citations and fines to defaulters, control traffic, e.t.c.

One day, dad came home unusually late. He looked really shaken up, terrified and solemn at the same time. When we enquired what happened, Dad told us a story;

On their special Marshal checkpoint that evening after work, they had stopped a commercial Bus that had no headlights or tail lights. Whilst they were still running checks and inspections, the bus driver throws the Vehicle into gear and runs over one the of Marshal's. The Bus driver dragged the Marshal under the Bus for a few meters before the Man came unstuck and drove off. The Marshall's immediately banded and rushed their fallen comrade to the Hospital, needless to say, the Man died leaving behind a young family. Dad said had it happened a few seconds earlier, he would have been in the path of the Driver and would have been killed.

That was the last day Dad ever participated in Marshal activities.

A Man died doing a Volunteer Service to his Country.

I commend this Man, but I will not be caught doing such. Nigerians will curse at you and even run you over just because they can and you don't have a Gun.

It is not his Job..

He is only a volunteer. FRSC does not pay Special Marshall's.

You can also become one.
