Devaluation is inevitable since fuel pump price is not tied to the parallel market exchange rate. |

Sweetlemon:You should SHUT UP. After the massive protests (which your people spearheaded) when jonathan removed subsidy, pump price of pertol was pegged at N87 per litre and it remained so all through jonathan's tenure and fuel was readily available. And almost ALL southwesterners were against Jonathan because of 'appointment' and they used their media to wreck his government. |

Realman87:Can I ask you some questions? Why did GEJ remove subsidy? Wasn't it because he said there are cabals in the oil sector? Should Nigerians be made to pay for the corruption of a select few? What did GEJ do with the excess accrual from the partial removal of subsidy? |

amagunnerfan:What has Buhari done with the whole fund gotten from TSA? What has he done with the whole loots he claimed to have recovered? What has he done with the so called bank stamp charges? Now you feel he will do something reasonable with the fund from subsidy removal? You are just dreaming if you put your trust on one unstable old man. Brace up cos you will defend him till you can't afford food stuff. |

Sweetlemon:How long exactly do u and ur likes intend on keeping up with ur excuses on behalf of the govt or rather in collaboration with the govt.. Dis is simply a case of eating their own words or rather going back to their vomits. Both d devaluation and subsidy removal issue would have been a thing of d past had it not been for the unpreparedness and total lack of direction with their trial-and-error error policies. By now d nation would have been well on d way to recovery. |

amagunnerfan:Listen I am disappointed people keep pointing to the past while the present and future is at stake. Jonathan is no longer my president so I can't discuss a man sitting comfortably in his home. Enough blame game..... Buhari is the present so questions needs to be asked about him. Don't you think it will be sillly waiting for him to plunge this country into a dead end before asking questions. |

falseman:What you lot talking about the past want is for us to forget in a hurry the man who got us here so we can join hands and unreasonably blame the man trying to get us out of this shithole. You are disappointed in the facts. You blame Buhari for subsidy removal and naira devaluation forgetting or refusing to accept the fact that your hero who you would rather we "forget" got us here in the first place. Answer my questions. Why are you dodging? |
| Re: Buhari Bows To IMF Pressure, To Devalue Naira 290 To Dollar by Nobody: 10:38pm On May 13, 2016 |
amagunnerfan:There is really no need answering your questions because your intention is to defend a clueless and retrogressive regime. The whole country knows that Nigerians have been misled and you still want to defend. Buhari knew all these problems when he was making empty campaign promises. Believe me 2yrs from now, you will still be calling Jonathan. |

Almajiri1:Simple!.. The enemies of Nigeria have finally won, Nigeria has finally been armtwisted and blackmailed to devalue. It is not about buhari or gej, this is about Nigeria's wellbeing. |

amagunnerfan:If you keep tracing blame we will trace it down to military era. Jonathan was voted out because he was clueless with his ideas and we needed a change. Now the so called change is here and has taken us to a much difficult situation and all you could do is point to the previous administration? Jonathan messed the country up since 1960 . The earlier you stopped pointing fingers to the past the better for you. It's a shame a ruling government keeps making excuses for its wrong decisions and the bailout word is "Jonathan" Be there till you are appointed minister of masquerades. |

Realman87:Since when did "almost all" become the same as the 45% of the South-West vote Jonathan got in 2015, or the outright majority he got there in 2011? Am I or grandstar, both of whom have vociferously opposed Buhari's policies, both not from this self-same region? Where are the likes of Femi Fani-Kayode and Fayose from again? It's pathetic how some of you people feel compelled to pollute every meaningful discussion on this site with your pointless, fact-free tribalistic nonsense. I suggest you develop a sense of shame and keep your bigoted views to yourself in the future. |

wisov:I believe you have no idea how bad the situation of the country is right now and this doesn't call for sluggishness or wrong decisions. Can you go back to the topic and tell me why he made a u-turn to devalue naira after massturbating with Yuan and asking for loan. I question his decision making and integrity. A then presidential candidate said there is nothing like subsidy and then all of a sudden he starting paying it. A man who said he will make N1= 1$ has now agreed on $290 even after saying on several occasion that he won't devalue it. Dont you see traces of an unstable man? |
| Re: Buhari Bows To IMF Pressure, To Devalue Naira 290 To Dollar by omohayek: 11:33pm On May 13, 2016 |
Getting back to the topic at hand, count me among those who say that Buhari's refusal to devalue early on has made the situation much worse than it should have been. Had he allowed the Naira's official rate to float, and refrained from imposing silly export bans whose only effect was to cripple small and medium-sized businesses, the rate of incoming remissions from Nigerians abroad would have been maintained, as well as the rate of foreign investment. Both of these sources of foreign exchange would have counter-acted the downward pressure and prevented it from reaching the lows it has now attained in the parallel market, and things would have been even better if Buhari had been forward-thinking enough to announce a substantial privatization program, which would have been a better way to plug the budgetary gap than simply borrowing to fund the government's grand spending plans. The sad thing is that even with all the borrowing, the amount allocated for capital projects will still be nowhere near enough to make a dent in Nigeria's accumulated infrastructure gap: the only real long-term solution is to attract massive FDI, but Buhari's economic illiteracy has had the opposite effect on the economy. |

omohayek:When Jonathan lost, Yorubas on nairaland claimed that the 45% votes were rigged and that they didn't vote him. Now, you are here claiming that your chamelionic people voted him. You see why people now disregard yorubas. For the records, the 45% votes Jonathan got from the SW are Igbo votes and SS votes. Lagos is a typical example where all igbos voted pdp. Ibadan is another example where all igbos in Ibadan voted pdp. Stop claiming that your people voted the same man they were desperate to pull down. You should enjoy your change. **** |
