APC mentality has not left the opposition quarters. When will these people start acting like a ruling party for pete sake! Making conflicting statements from different quarters on same issue is childish and indicates a purposeless govt |

ovadozes:How can the strike hold when the marketers want to sell fuel above 145. What do you want the govt to do. Return fuel back to 87 to encourage queuing or allow marketers sell above 145. What would be the strike about. It's disheartening that you guys don't use your brain. |

cochexky:Its like you are reading one thing and assimilating another. I just told u that deregulation means govt has removed hands from providing forex for imports. So if govt isnt giving the marketers forex, how do u expect govt to place it at N90 The marketers are now purchasing forex at the real cost and on their own. Govt intervention here is only to protect the public from any outrageous price. Really, this isnt rocket science! |

Raziii:We import diesel too. Diesel have been deregulated for over 4 years now. And d price went down from around 180naira to 120 naira today |

PUSH1:Don't quote me again if you really dont know what to say or if the argument is beyond the reasoning of your brain. Fixing pump price at 145 naira is not deregulation, deregulation is when you allow people to source fuel on their own and create competition alowing each marketer to source fuel through legitimate means and sell to citizens what it means is that the importers will be selling according to market price. How can i support increase in pump price when the environment has not been made conducive, our refineries are not working, minimum wage is 18, 000 and u expect me to swallow this hook, line and sinker. Please grow some brain. Same people that occupied Nigeria when the last administration increased pump price are the same people that want me to accept it now. If i may ask "what has changed apart from power changing hands?" |

wxyz1:To support deregulation is equal to supporting the consequences of deregulation. Including a dramatic increase or decrease in the price of the product without government intervention. |

Total deregulation of downstream sector means that you that have benefited from last administration will not be able afford fuel at above 200 and still cannot queue to get it at 87. ovadozes: |
| Re: PENGASSAN : We Support Deregulation, Not N145 Per Litre. by Kay17: 9:16am On May 15, 2016 |
ovadozes:I strongly doubt if a free ranging competition amongst many marketers will beat down the cost of buying the dollar. As long as refined oil is tied to the value of the dollar, it will dramatically increase with the dollar. So 145 is a compromise between a free for all deregulation and subsidy. |

Total deregulation will surely lead to initial massive increase in prices. Theoretically the prices will come down later after a while with local refinery taking over etc. However nigerian factor makes them difficult to predict. I think however that the government should be totally open and honest about their thoughts. Let people know the options and contribute to taking the decisions that basically affect them more than any one else. Nigerians might even agree to slightly higher costs. Nigerians are not fools God bless you all |

Our Adult. Why don't you allow the kid express himself and stop fooling around as though you yourself understand the full meaning of deregulation. Its types like you that will sink yourselve , not our country down, . Every government should have oppositions and critics, its left for the government and its supporters, in this case zoombies like you, to explain the reason behind every policy change or sumersault policy. Critics would even understand cuz they have brains, not as the brains of dead zoombies. tinsel: |

allthingsgood:Then why call it deregulation? I think you're the one that doesn't understand what the term 'deregulation' means. You can't say you're deregulating and regulating at the same time. If this government is serious let them 'deregulate' and stop all the useless jargon but, hey, they've never been serious so I'm not amazed. |

******* FOOD FOR THOUGHT ********** 1) How can the govt claim its deregulating the downstream sector yet it still imposes price, how is that deregulation? 2) Secondly, why do people think competition will drive down price, its too much of a speculation. These major oil marketers are under a Union, and in time past they have COLLECTIVELY AGREED to HOARD fuel. What makes you think they can't all Collectively sell at exhorbitant prices. Telecoms were never under a union, so that's why the competition thing got to them. 3) Oil price is about $40/barrel, if Oil jumps backup to $100/barrel. What happens to the price template because by then Oil marketers will cry that the template isn't favourable. 4) If Oil marketers are to source for forex from autonomous sources, how about NNPC? How can oil marketers that source forex at parallel mkt rate compete with NNPC who source forex at official rate? |

But given the current situation, deregulation will mean we would purchase petrol for higher than 145 naira. |

People should read this news again and get the content of its message well. PENGASAN said they would only support deregulation and not fuel price hike. Part of the contents of the PIB is the downstream regulation and many more important issues that will be addressed. The federal Government through NNPC, PPPRA and co haven't taken off their hands from the downstream at all and this is hurting the nation badly. At this time, I think austere and strict measures should be taken by the FG. In my own opinion, if the downstream sector is to be fully deregulated (while the FG still does some oversight) these associations and trade unions should be abrogated. If we Nigerians want to be sincere with ourselves, these "association of petroleum this and that" are the ones complicating issues and making life difficult for the masses; not just in the petroleum sector but in all other sectors as well. They are there to oppress and feed themselves fat from people's misery. Again, nnpc should not concern itself with retail of petroleum products, there are investors who are ready to take up the mantle and ensure continuous supply of these products. But what needs to be done is: while NOGICD and other bodies that protect local content/participation, foreign investors should be allowed to bring in their products as well (at least until our refineries can fully meet our demands). For example, Neste; a Finnish company has outlets in Canada, US, in major countries of Europe. Furthermore, oil swaps should be stopped. It has never been in the interest of the masses, Alison Maduekwe was only being creative on how to earn more money for her self. Government should be less concern with the downstream, let demand and supply play themselves out while you welcome any dealer (local and foreign). Rather, it should concentrate more on upstream: how do we grow our reserves, deal with or settle the issue of militancy, work in synergy with IOCs and our local oil companies, grow our market share by collaborating with heavy industrialised nations (Indian china, S. Korea) |
