Jesusloveyou:Exactly. 25k would have been the best. The private sector and state government can try and come on board with this. God help us in Nigeria. Better still, I would prefer pay per hour system as it's run in the western world too. |

Rubbish, this government is nothing but a charade! What a useless greek gift, you want to rob peter to pay paul? Why retrench en mass so you could pay 45000 minimum wage?? Again these clueless gays think they are addressing gullible !diots, what do they mean by "they will not devalue the naira but will peg it at 285" From 197 to a 285 yet you claim you are not going to devalue?? what did we do to deserve such clowns in high places ![]() |

This people are funny. .If you relieve people off their jobs, invariably you are still creating unemployment and as such you have not alleviated the suffering of the masses. .I don't buy this idea from the federal government at all and labour should vehemently reject such proposal. |

a limit has been set by the Nigeria Government as
maximum for price of fuel per liter and the Epe filling
stations are selling at N170.... I wonder. And there was a
slight queue at that.
It's not the government that has a fault. It's us individuals
and our greed.
Change will happen when we all realise it's meant to be a
joint effort.

Note points: Has the petroleum industry been deregulated - No Govt has accepted black market figure - partialy (285) Has subsidy been removed - No (black market is 345) Why 145 (retail price of 285/$ not 345) Why 145 ( to put a bench mark on price of pms) Why not deregulate - (the price of fuel wld be controlled by bureau de change) 5 mths pms wld crash? - No (you dont get dollar at 285) Why the whole news on subsidy? - govt is fast running out of dollars Solution : kick off all sort of refinery both local and non local...(checkmate the quality) but issue licence If Nipco station sells fuel at N50 (pms certified okay by nnpc) because they dont have to go through the shipping and protocols, the price of petrol would crash faster because why would oando import at 145 than open up refineries to sell N50 Atleast we all hear of illegal refineries (that market would force the price of pms lowest faster, the big guns going into it would make it drop lower) My two cents |
The N45,000 minimum wage will be a welcomed development. That's the only justification to increase pump price to N145. NLC and TUC should please accept this offer whether or not state governments are on board. States will gradually be brought in later, let's start with the federal government first. i In addition, labour should also ask for the immediate payment of all outstanding promotion arrears and 28 days allowance as a condition for accepting the new pump price. This will also go a long way in ameliorating the hardship that the new pump price will have on workers. [/quote My dear broda did U also read the consequences that go with d acceptance of d 45k minimum wage? For me, i see it as robbing Peter to pay Paul. We cannot in any way accept mass sack of civil servants just because fg has proposed 45k min wage. |

The effect of inflation is looming. Downsizing the work force at a time unemployment is gaining ground is unheard of. This is wickedness.Trying to rub Peter to pay Paul will backfire in the longrun. |

DropShot:What is good news, reduction in number of civil servants (sacking workers). That's creating more hatdship- taking from many to give to few. |

Increment is inevitable; N45,000? Maybe, maybe not. Inflation? No doubt. Downsizing; that's been due for a long time. Some government workers are doing nothing, but earning money. OTOH, if they are paid their dues, they can better contribute to the economy by starting off something useful, or can be re-admitted into some other new governmental jobs in the near future if the economy bounces back. Our reserves @ $27b plus is good enough to cover for over 12 months especially now that the CBN is not funding fuel and other imports, and Brent is heading for $50 (summer demands). I think the CBN can do more for raw materials importers and importers of other crucial goods . . . unless baba just likes to stare gleefully at account balance. ![]() |

But the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, berated the government that promised to create jobs but was now tinkering with the idea of embarking on one of the most massive job losses Nigeria has every witnessed. He added: “We cannot be talking about creating jobs and at the same time be talking about mass sacking of workers. This is a government that promised jobs and now, it wants to embark on mass sacking of workers. It is difficult to reconcile the two extreme ends. We will not accept any proposal for job cuts if put across to us.” APC scam! |
