omenka:Look at these one claiming us us as if you are not feeling d heat also. Be deceiving yourself as if you pay different prices from what others are paying in d market today. A non hypocritical supporter of a government criticizes when d government errs and not claiming to be advising the opposition on what to say. Poverty may even be raping you but you are too shy and hypocritical to antagonize the people(or person) dat is inflicting d pains on you. Youths selling their birth right for a pot of porridge. Too bad! |

Where are we headed in this country? Tot they said they've removed subsidy, how is it still possible to reduce the price without paying subsidy? |

omenka:The reason it isn't 103 but 145 is because of the corresponding high cost at which marketers or importers are expected to source for forex, from various secondary sources, which has been pegged at $1- N285 or thereabout! |

l am amazed the way the FG is negotiating the price of PMS with labour like market women. Nigerians do not know how to moderately adjust/guage the price of goods and services, once there is an increase in pump price of PMS. Even if eventually they both agree 88 Naira, as long as there is an icrease, labour should insist on the proposed 56k minimum wage. |

| Re: FG Proposes N120 Per Litre, Labour Leaders Kick by deejaydeji: 10:47am On May 17, 2016 |
omenka:The reason is because the price increase is not just to remove subsidy, it is necessary so as to discourage marketers from carrying the petrol to othere african countries where dey will sell at higher cost and thereby causing fuel scarcity in Nigeria. also the non availability of forex caused the increase. maybe you dont even know that the major way Nigeria gets dollars is via sales of crude oil, but since the price of oil has reduced in world market it has reduced the amount of dollar that gets in the country thereby causing dollar scarcity. |

emmygzy:The truth is that the N199/$1 official exchange rate is unrealistic and unsustainable. Also, NNPC is a profit-making not charity organisation hence it shouldn't be seen to be fleecing the government. Honestly, subsidy must go for the country to progress. Eventually, we shall be the better for it! |

omenka:let me break it down real quick. Subsidy has indeed been removed simple. Crude price has crashed ridiculously so the price you buy your raw has reduced ...your selling price should reduce too but that was being subsidized so less subsidy and all is bless Now you buy fuel with forex(Dollars) and we all know Nigeria doesnt have Dollars. Note that all along, fuel importers have sourced dollar from CBN. CBN has now shut-up shop to importers so they have to get dollars from black market. CBN WAS ABOUT 200 BLACK MARKET WAS ABOUT 340 PUMP PRICE WAS 87 AND HAS BEEN PROPOSED TO 145. so thats why it is 145 |

omenka:Government has told you why, research more and you would be well informed. If major marketers get dollar at 197 naira from cbn then the cost of landing refined fuel at our ports would be 84 naira, distribution charge would be 14 naira hence, without subsidy a litre of pms would sell at (84+14=98 naira) so government has been subsidising at 12 naira so we have 98-12= 86 naira. But government can't continue to provide the forex needed by oil marketers to import pms since the revenue we generate from crude oil sales has been plummeting since june 2014 hence our foreign reserves is been depleted as a result of demand for dollar to satisfy importers of which the cbn has been trying to manage through various policies. The recent announcement by the minister of petroleum for state, is that fuel would not be sold above 145 based on the following guidelines by the pppra 1. Oil marketer are to source for their dollar at the secondary market and they pegged dollar exchange rate at 298 naira to dollar. Difference here is that the oil marketers would not wait or hope that cbn would give them dollar at its own rate of 197 anymore 2. If oil marketers get a dollar at 298 naira then landing cost of pms in our ports would be at 118 naira, distribution charge would cost about 18 naira then the cost of pms would be 118+18=136 naira so the government gave extra gap in its computation that is 136-145 naira for a litre of pms Unanswered question here should be how much should our locally refined fuel be sold for. |

omenka:nice submission, but the problem is not the issue of fuel subsidy per say sourcing for dollars is d main problem we re facing now, fall in the price of crude oil globally has made it difficult for nnpc to carry on with d burden of solely importing fuel for the nation nd d only option is to allow marketer's to import fuel |

wordychap:Have you considered the fact that fuel importers are now required to get forex from the black market at ~N300 to $1 instead of the previous N198?... This forex issue is the primary reason why it yanked to N145, not necessarily the subsidy removal. What this development means now is that the FG would now have to resume subsidising forex gap for marketers, this is basically the same as re-introducing subsidies. With the idea of asking importers to go to the black market, the plan was for the CBN to be able to direct the massive forex chest to manufacturers, the manufacturers association of Nigeria had already started rejoicing over this as it had the capacity to re-inject life into the dead manufacturing sector. But apparently, if the CBN is now forced to continue subsidizing forex for fuel importers, the opportunity cost would be the manufacturing sector. |

Omenka and company have continuously and brazenly divided Nigeria along wailers and zombies and Seun sees nothing wrong in that. Instead of preaching unity, Nairaland has become a forum for division, always tearing tribes apart, hounding people with differing opinions. Yet, we all go to the same market, buy same fuel and other things all at the prevailing market prices. Kontinue. I understand Omenka is from Benue State. Is Benue State also among the zombies? Is it by the number of votes given to APC or by being counted amongst the 19 Northern states that makes one belong to the zombies or wailers? Or you just want your voice to be heard as an APC apologist. Kontinue. Treat with respect all things held sacred to others whether you like it or not. Respect differing opinions even though you think them stupid and inconsequential. Statesmen are born not made. Even if you were not born a statesman, pretend and live your life like one. Seun, its time you guys moderate this forum and convince moderate individuals that its not kids and charlatans that come to Nairaland to pour aspersions on one another. omenka: |
