With the recent scarcity of tomato, after going up and down without getting good fresh tomatoes to buy, one of the tomato sellers told me to buy dried ones which she now sells.

I want to know, has anyone tried using d dried tomato? How does it taste? How is it prepared? Is there any difference in colour, taste etc with the fresh one?

I used dried pepper and sachet tomatoes for stew ..

Yes...d dried tomato is nyc...all u need to do is watch out for d dried tomtoes..cus some are black n bad..

when i travelled to the north i found out that most of the women used dry tomatoes for their cooking. Its very good but you have to soak it first for at most 30 minutes.



The taste though can never be compared to fresh ones but it can rival the sachet one

I've been seeing the dried tomatoes in the markets recently, never used it before. I was told that if you soak the tomatoes in water properly before grinding, it's almost as good as fresh ones just that it darkens stew a bit.

First time I ever saw them was over six years ago during my service year in Benue. They were dirt cheap so were the fresh ones so i used to buy fresh ones only. It's only recently that I started seeing them in Lagos. I may still try them out one of these days.

It's very weird! Never knew there was anything like dried tomatoes until this whole scarcity ish. Not sure I'll ever feel comfortable using that stuff to cook, though. Will just use the tin pureed ones instead!

@OP.....Ask OMENKA and AGBARAWO....These guys and other SAI BABA CREW have been using dried tomato to cook for long as PMB refuse to pay them there 5k monthly allawi.

Buhari should diversify our economy quickly if not it is the same old story.

ai rin jina lai ri abuke okere.....translation, the farther you go, the more you see! Those kinda tomatoes were seen as "bad" before now. But the way things are going now, Bad is the new good.

Have been hearing of it,but just used it for the first time,Chisos the taste was tasteless with all the ingredients i added,the colour was not in the scheme of colour,even added a Tomato paste
I believe the Zombite are also sharing in the pain of using dried Tomatoes,they make blame it on GEJ that provided food bountifully in its Agricultural scheme.

Very nice,I've used it twice,but I increased the quantity of onions to spice up the taste.......even the dried tomatoes don dey finish for market,na egusi sure pass now
