DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS UPDATE ON OPERATION CRACKDOWN: TROOPS CLEAR NJIMIA CAMP IN SAMBISA FOREST In continuation with the special clearance and rescue operations otherwise known as Operation CRACKDOWN, within the Sambisa forest, troops of 7 Division have yesterday Tuesday, 17th May 2016, cleared Boko Haram terrorists out of their Njimia camp within Sambisa forest. While advancing earlier in the morning on the same day, the troops also cleared Boko Haram terrorists camps at Alafa, where they encountered heavy resistance from Boko Haram terrorists and killed 15 of them. The troops continued their advance through Alafa Main, Alafa Extension and Alafa Yaga-yaga, where they cleared remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hibernating there before arriving at their main objective, Njimia. Apart from destroying the camps, the troops rescued 41 hostages who were mostly women and children. The troops also recovered 2 Dane Guns, several vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles belonging to the terrorists. One significant aspect of this feat today was the combination of ground forces assault, Nigerian Air Force Jets provision for combat air support and monitoring of the operation directly by the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu on board Air Force reconnaissance aircraft. It is gratifying to note that no casualty was recorded by own troops through the conduct of this operation. Thank you for your usual cooperation. RESCUED CHIBOK GIRL HANDED OVER TO BORNO STATE GOVERNOR The rescued Chibok school girl, Amina Ali, was airlifted by Nigeria Air Force Super Puma aircraft from Damboa to Maiduguri alongside her baby and supposed husband, Mohammed Hayatu. Prior to that they were examined at Air Force medical facility and were found to be stable and normal blood pressure was observed. Thereafter, she was released to the Operation LAFIYA DOLE headquarters for further investigation and handing over. After preliminary investigation, the rescued girl and her baby has been handed over to Borno State Governor, His Excellency, Honourable Kashim Shetima, at Government house, Maiduguri this evening by the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu in a brief ceremony. It is believed that she will be brought to Abuja tomorrow along with her parents to meet with Mr President. Meanwhile, the supposed husband is undergoing further investigation at Joint Intelligence Centre. It should be noted that Mohammed Hayatu is well treated in line with Operation LAFIYA DOLE Rules of Engagement regarding insurgents who voluntarily surrender to the military. Thank you for your kind and usual cooperation. Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman Acting Director Army Public Relations |

MikeCZA:This. When the story broke about the alleged "possible grounding of the Hawks fleet" Everyone freaked out No one looked at the SAAF budget which showed that the allocation for the jets was constant and took a slight increase this year since training costs dropped It was transport that took a hit in the SAAF budget reduction - because we dont fly to Sudan anymore When Biro got delayed everyone freaked out No one took the time to read that the upgrade of Sailsbury Island to a Naval base falls under Biro and that SAN is negotiating with TRANSNET to cut costs - which obviously effects Biro as a whole - thus until TRANSNET and SAN come to an agreement Biro doesnt move forward People like freaking out in RSA - it sells newspapers |

Botswana only interested in 8 Gripen C/D and is also looking at the Korean T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic trainer http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=43548:botswana-interested-in-buying-gripens&catid=35:Aerospace&Itemid=107 In my opinion the T-50 would be the better option for Botswana

patches689:The T-50 would have been a much much better option. That fighter is not a trainer, from it's specs it shouldn't be classified as one. They are too good for a trainer. |

Henry240:Yes, T-50/FA-50 is matching JF-17 block II on the payload and price,it's a twin-seats fighter. In fact South Korea designs this as their second-line fighter with trainer as a second role. The South Korean sell and advertise it as a F-16 mini , 70% of the parts and technology from USA Lockheed Martin the F-16 manifacturer The FTC-2000G is a real trainer served in Chinese Air force and at least one African country. It's also a cheap bomb-truck with 3000Kg payload and low maintenance cost . It's far more cheaper than T-50 or JF-17.It's a modifed FT-7 (JJ-7) and a F-7 variant with increase on payload and decrease on speed, however it's not suposed to be a profetional Ground-Attacker like Su25 or A10 as it has not enough armor and payload. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guizhou_JL-9

gottfried21:Hopefully this will force the Politicians in RSA to bump military spending somewhat Not out of fear But out of pride. In the past, the fact that we only had between 8-14 operational was ok.... because you know "most advanced in Africa" and "8 is enough to guarantee air-superiority over any neighbor". But now, FVCKING BOTSWANA (A country most people cant find on a map with a population smaller than Johannesburg & Pretoria) will be operating allmost as many as SAAF... and probably have more operational. This is too much. I am dead now. |
