Hello Nairalanders!
As they say,we only have one life,so therefore, we have to guard it very well..
We might encounter some danger situations which can take away one's life if adequate care is not taken... One of those situations is "stabbing".
it could be a knife stab,or a screw driver stab,or any dangerous weapon. which could kill a human within minutes if not seconds.
when something of this nature occurs,it becomes an EMERGENCY situation, yes " you need to rush to a hospital, but what you do prior to getting to a hospital will determine your survival.

Here are what you need to do before arrival at the hospital.

Survey the area: A stabbing is usually carried out by criminals and assailants on a person .. so you need to ensure not to put yourself in danger by intervening, you must ensure the area is safe before intervening.

If u no go hospital....u go die!!!!!!

Call for emergency help immediately : This is very important because this will cap all your subsequent efforts, this is the first thing you should do before any other thing, call for an ambulance immediately ..

Lay the person down : Before commencing any thing, ensure you lay the victim down on the ground and ensure he DOESN'T MOVE,this will help slow down the flow of blood, and stabilize the victim if he starts to feel dizzy or fall unconscious.

Do not remove the stabbing object if it is embedded ; This is very important, do not attempt to remove the knife or whatever is used from the body. Removing it could actually worsen the situation, infact,the object is actually helping in preventing blood loss.

Breathe into the victim :When a person has been stabbed especially close to an area of the lungs and arteries near the heart, the impact of the stab will definitely affect the circulatory system around the area, therefore, it is very essential you breathe into his/her mouth to ensure flow of air, a circulation of air,so the victim would remain alive and conscious.

Stop the bleeding : Quickly use an absorbent cloth or a thick towel or handkerchief to prevent the bleeding, dress the wound,and seal the would to prevent air from entering which could lead to infection, make sure you use your hand to press the area around the wound firmly, thereby, applying pressure to help stem the flow of blood.

Continue applying pressure until help arrives Applying pressure to the region of the wound will help monitor the ABCs(airway, breathing and circulation) .. it is essential as the knife might have hit a vital organ of the body like the liver,intenstines or the heart .. after this,then keep the victim in an upright position to help him breathe well until help finally arrives.

With this.. you can save the victim from dying before getting to the hospital, because a stabbed victim only has few minutes to survive in an average stabbing, in severe cases, where the knife penetrated deep into the stomach or liver,the person's life may be counting in seconds .. so it is extremely essential you act quickly and save a person's life.. before proper health care will be administered later on at the hospital ..
