Shym3xx:
So, being snarled-up, with mostly folks who don't contribute anything to the IGR, thus turning a beautiful landscape into the biggest slum in the world - is a solution, no? How many thriving multicultural cities the size of Lagos has the same population ratio? London? Paris? New York City?

There's a reason why these cities decongest from time to time and shed the population to satellite towns/cities. Excessive population is always counter-productive and it puts unnecessary stress on infrastructures cos no matter what you do, it will always amount to pouring water into a basket...with high crime rate, slums, destitutes etc.. That's the story of Lagos.
Can you provide links to the bold parts of your post above?

Moreover those folks that you THINK do not contribute anything to the IGR, do contribute.
How?
They provide needed UNSKILLED labour- as cleaners, drivers, packers/loaders, bricklayers, carpenters, etc- without which the big corporations and SMEs cannot function to pay the IGR. Not so huh

Lagos is so crowded, buy à thousand busses it will not be enough to take care of d demand, and d environment is full of hold ups with bad traffic control, the best thing for this govt in Lagos state is to go into massive development of d rural areas in Lagos state, build houses and roads establish industries thier to reduce the population in d Cities, if not Lagos will still be what it is. not just making oshodi look like lekki or what ever

My dear @Shym3xx, high population density in itself is not a negative situation. Lagos' population can be and is already a major advantage in the city's socio-economic growth depending on the brilliance and vision of the city's managers. According to official statistics, Lagos State has a population approaching 13 million people with additional 5 to 10 million migrant workers, visitors, tourists, traders, travellers etc. coming in and out daily. This human magnet is the very reason why high capital investments such as the rail project, Lekki FTZ, Eko Atlantic City, 2nd International Airport, Ilubirin Housing Scheme etc. are even viable in the 1st place. Rich states like Akwa Ibom & Rivers could afford some of these projects too but it will amount to white elephant things as the viability will be suspect.

To further buttress my point, recall that China's 700 million people was such a burden in the 1960s, when the country's economy was comatose, that the government had to enforce a "one child" policy. However, this same China, with 1.5 BILLION people today, has abolished the one child policy and is encouraging young couples to have more children as the country continues her march to the top of the global economy.

High population is always an advantage if you got the right brains to run the community.

There's a difference between having high productive population in moderation and excessive snarled-up population that's retrogressive and counter-productive. With high productive production, it's manageable and the relationship is symbiotic. However, when a city is overpopulated like Lagos is, it's counter-productive and apart from creating slums, it puts unnecessary pressure on infrastructures. Astute city managers, who build city to attract investors, don't focus on huge population alone - they focus on conduciveness and how to create a symbiotic relationship and ensure that the city thrives.

I was looking at the population in all Nigerian states the other day. And Lagos, which has the smallest landmass, has a population of 21 million people - while the closest state to it, with a far larger landmass has less than 6 million people. That right there is humanitarian crisis. You can't get any socio-economic growth in a city like that. The only thing that's attainable is chaos, and that's the story of Lagos.

Have you ever bothered to check how China was able to manage the huge population productively? Well, in China, they were able to divide the population into different manageable regions. And you can't move from one region to the other, without a permit (the permit is also only valid for a period of time and you've to keep renewing it).

But thriving cities like New York City, London, and Paris would disagree with you cos about 80% of their IGR comes from corporate taxes, banking and financial sector, tourism, and real estate.

Lagos doesn't need to be snarled-up to generate enormous IGR...it's well positioned to do naturally, without the population. It just needs to find its real identity and exploit it. And I believe with the Eko Atlantic project - it can create a niche where the focus would be on banking and financial sector, and tourism.
