United Airlines will stop flying to Nigeria next month, ending the carrier’s only route to Africa because of weakness in the energy sector and difficulties in collecting money from tickets sold in that country. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-05-26/united-cancels-nigeria-route-ending-its-only-flight-to-africa 3 Likes 1 Share

This is becoming unbearable! It baffles me that in this 21st century and the rate of nationalists we have , one person or group of people can hold this country to ransom. 32 Likes 2 Shares |

You people should stop writing about what you have no idea about. If they are leaving, it's not because of the downtown in Economy... The load factor has reduced that's the primary reason 3 Likes 1 Share |

Boeing777pilot:True. In a way, this should be music in the ears of Arik. But as low load factor forced United out of the route, Arik may not fare better in terms of increased passenger numbers flying between the US and Nigeria. 5 Likes |

Boeing777pilot: Olodo, did you ignore the part where the airline management cited the cumbersome forex policies that makes it hard to repatriate their earnings? And if you must know economists like to use the aviation industry to gauge the health of any economy as people and goods movement is directly related to economic growth. Why is the load factor decreasing? Answer is simply that Nigerians are not flying. And why are Nigerians not flying anymore? Because the economy is sh1t. 82 Likes 7 Shares |

2n2k: And did you not see where the airline rep cited the CBN policy restricting forex movement as the last straw that killed the nigerian route? “Repatriation has been a significant issue, as has been the downturn in the energy sector,” said United spokesman Jonathan Guerin, who confirmed the note’s authenticity. 47 Likes 2 Shares |

^^^ if the route had not been marginal to them all along, they will not abandon it for their partner -lutfhanza. BA, the Middle East airlines, Ethiopia are still running in Nigeria. Infact, Turkish airline and South African airlines just increased their frequencies. 2 Likes |

2n2k: In aviation sector, operators maintain certain routes as future investment. The route in question may not have been their most lucrative but the airline saw reason to maintain the route as a strategic foothold into Africa's largest passenger nation. The forex policy was the catalyst to ending their presence in nigeria as they saw bleaker outlook not only in securing their returns but also in future passenger numbers. The dullard's policies are killing the economy and this is not only restricted to the aviation sector alone but in virtually all spheres of the economy. The stock market has since lost well over 50% value since may,2015 due to foreign investors pulling out due to this same rigid forex regulations. 46 Likes 2 Shares |

VulgarVulvas:Please, lecture them very well. I don't know why some people find it very difficult to comprehend simple English. United airlines pulled out of Nigeria because they are no longer making profits due to the upside down economic policies of the present administration. Buhari is killing Nigeria slowly and some people have not realized that yet until it's too late. 47 Likes 2 Shares |

SnakeDoctor2020: Passengers have probably found alternatives. It's not rocket science. What airlines do is to find out why passengers are longer flying with them. In this case, I'm not sure United did that. There are international airlines who even want to increase their weekly frequencies. The route simply wasn't profitable to them. More of Nigerians fly to Europe, other parts of Africa and the middle east than the US. 2 Likes |

VulgarVulvas: You can make your point without being vulgar. Nigerians are still flying and they are so very well. What they simply do is look for cheaper alternatives which they have done hence United is feeling the pinch. For instance medview flights to London gat wick are always fully booked because it's a cheaper alternative to the expensive BA and Co. Arik used to fly to dubai but stopped because they couldn't compete with Emirates and Etihad. I know the economy might not be in the best of shape but let's stop these knee jerk reactions and stop blaming Buhari without critically analyzing the facts of the matter. Have a nice day. 11 Likes 1 Share |

Na wa ooooooooooooooooo The country owed airlines about $575 million in air fares as of March 31, according to the International Air Transport Association. We need to know the number of job loss in this pullout add all together and be able to compare to the APC promised 5 MILLION JOBS by 2019. 10 Likes

onatisi:/ Buhari, during his electioneering, described Nigeria’s presidential fleet under former President Goodluck Jonathan, as a “waste.”He therefore promised to make changes when he assumed office. In a speech delivered to the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom in February, Buhari described the waste alongside corruption as the major killers of the country’s economy. He had said, “Let me give you an instance, presently, there are more than six aircraft in the presidential fleet. What do you call that? Billions of Naira is budgeted every year for the maintenance of these aircraft not to talk of operational costs and other expenses. “You may want to ask what a Nigerian President is doing with so much aircraft when a Prime Minister of Britain flies around using the same public aircraft like ordinary Britons. “Go and check and compare with that of any developed country in the world, the Office of the Nigerian President is a very expensive one in spite of our poverty and joblessness. Despite all these, you still find a Nigerian Minister spending about N10bn to charter an aircraft for just one year. “Now for me, when we come into office, all these waste will be blocked and properly channelled into our economy. We intend, for instance, to bring back our National carrier, the Nigerian Airways. We shall do this by bringing all the aircraft in the presidential fleet into the Nigerian airways and within a year increase the fleet to about 20. “What is the difference between me and those who elected us to represent them? Absolutely nothing! Why should Nigerian President not fly with other Nigerian public?” Buhary is a professional liar! https://www.nairaland.com/2161287/buharis-speech-nigerian-community-uk#30978547 9 Likes 4 Shares
