I used to live on 1 congo of beans, 1 congo of garri, 1 bottle of palm oil and 2-3 wraps of ground pepper, 1 wrap of salt.......for 1 week! No tomato, no rice, no vegetable oil.
Each congo of beans and garri contains the equivalent of 7 small plastic cups which would be equally apportioned to last for the 7 days of the week.
No variance or deviation from the planned measurement was allowed. Otherwise, man would suffer!

so? we should start crying now?

I thank God for the lessons and experience. There were days I would go a whole day without anything to eat, but I knew it would not be forever.
With nor father or mother to help, I struggled to graduate from Ife and now I look back and give thanks to God for His mercies and faithfulness.

Those of you who have parents and guardians giving you money monthly should be thankful and disciplined with what they give. A time may come when you would be on your own with no one to assist. The discipline that you inculcate is what would help you when tough times come!

stop making it look like its a crime to receive money from one's parents...seeing it is their responsibility to cater for their offsprings. and u can't tell anyone how to spend their allowance because you only know your own needs....

With God's grace and help, I am okay. I am grateful I can say that I am not living in poverty.
Even today that I am earning a decent pay, the discipline I inculcated from my experience in those days, has made me to be grateful and careful not to misuse whatever comes my way (although every body wants to do some crazy enjoyment stuff, which can be allowed occasionally).

Wow..I don't even know how I survived on 5k per month for d 5 years I spent in FUTA.I do remember the food magic tho. (50 naira Bread +30 naira beans at SUB almost every morning then 40 naira fufu/eba "without" at night in chapters..That's roughly 3400 per month on food,the remaining 1600 was for photocopies n airtime(browsing was via cheat codes )and sometimes i even save some change at d end of the month...I never ever begged for food cos i dont even feel comfortable eating people's food...God surely knows how to take care of his own..it all boils down to management and prioritising at the end of the day while putting at the back of ur mind the kind of family u coming from ...op seems to have found a balance and ways to survive within his means...That's most important and commendable..

Tfare from my house to school in a month is 4200...on the condition that I don't go to anywhere else other than school, and once I'm inside campus, I won't use shuttle to the library or anywhere else (trekking things).

This is well over 10k without adding things like tin tomatoes, seasoning, preparation of soup and stew, materials, recharge card and other miscellaneous needs.

I finished as far back as 2010..and anatomy wasn't dere then so can't speak much on that...I heard some new courses have been introduced tho.....but generally speaking, it is kinda a tough school considering d fact that u'll hav to do so many compulsory unrelated general courses like mechanical engineering drawing, crop science,mathematics,computer and many more in ur first 2 years.. but trust me,if u r hard working,u'll pull through...
