In A Dilemma Of Studying Abroad Or Serving The Country (NYSC) by koolaid87: 6:38pm On May 27, 2016
I'm in a dilemma of choosing between going for a master program in abroad or doing NYSC.

I finished my undergraduate program this year, and there is an opportunity to further for a masters program in abroad, Meanwhile, the NYSC call up will be commencing by Nov. which would affect my intention of studying abroad. I'm just stuck thinking about the benefit of the NYSC certificate in the nearest future if I decline to serving my country.

Please kindly help me in weighing the options.

Thank you

NYSC Is meaningless outside Nigeria.
It will not get a job in any other country.
Will your masters help you?
What is your subject?

Are you going for your Masters so that you can Migrate? If not, you can go for your Masters and come back to Nigeria to serve.

Thank you. I'd have exceeded the required age (31)by the time I completed my master's degree. The issue I have is that my folks are bugging me as if the nysc is so important.

It all depends on your short term and long term goals.
If you have the funds for an Msc abroad, I did like to think you should go get it, over 30yrs, you simply apply for an exemption cert. And life goes on.
Moreso, studying abroad isn't as easy as it appears, a lot of planning goes into the process, getting admission, getting the relevant documents, and then filing for visa can really be challenging and time consuming. So during the time frame, you may as well begin your NYSC program, and travel when you secure a visa.QED!
