The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, celebrates Children's day urging Nigerian children to believe in Nigeria and be dedicated to the development of the country.

The Ooni said this during the maiden edition of Children’s Day Celebration organized by the Ile Oodua and hosted by Olori Wuraola Otiti Ogunwusi, on Friday in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Words from the Ooni:

"Children of the past believed so much in this country and that aided the growth of this country. Patriotism from the older generation children helped this nation so much, but the country no longer enjoys such today again. “Today’s children must also believe in this country, they must have hope in this country.

The children are the future of this country; we can do more for the children. We should be more afraid of the children than even the adult because the level of investment in them will tell on this country. Leaders must move closer to the children and that is exactly what you have seen my wife and I do today.

I watched him on TV singing korede bello's Godwin with them.

Only God knows what would be going on in the minds of those arcaic obas we have in Nigeria. We never knew an oba could visit ordinary people, play with children, passionately promote the Nigerian product, etc like this. It shows that it's not about the traditional institution, but the personality.

This king will surely give them opportunity to express themselves, they are not likely to be in 'traditional bondage' if you know what I mean, they would be free to discuss their problems with the king, they will be free to give the king the undiluted feedback from the community, for those that won't misuse the opportunity, they will enjoy working with him.......

But I wonder what it would have been like with the predecessor. I also wonder what would be going on in the minds of the chiefs of Ile Ife now.
