Guys, long time. Sorry been working on some projects so been so busy.
Don't forget, tomorrow is Monday, time is ticking, take those fearful steps, do things differently, make every second count... Life is so short.
Do it! Yes you can. Those stuff that seem like dreams to you now are actually achievable.
Have a productive week folks.

Hi guys,

Some reminder about your CV. Very simple tips but quite useful.

1) No point adding sex except specified.
2) No point adding your origin. No one cares.
3) Make sure your residential address is somewhat close to your potential employers address.
4) Let someone else take a second look at your cv.
5) Avoid typographical errors.
6) Tailor your CV to the position you are applying too.
7) Be smart with your application letter (Will write about this shortly).

NOTE: These are just my perspective.

what if you don't have access to a system, but you already have a cover letter and application letter stored on your phone, that you want to edit, can one make use of a phone to edit it?

There's Word, Adobe App you can use to edit all of these things.
Not a big deal. Can be downloaded on Google Play store etc.

I will be updating this thread every now and then with new trends in employer-employee relationship as well as new trends in recruitment processes and career growth. Sometimes job vacancies too.

Morning folks and a wonderful new year to you. One of the general resolutions most of us must have made is to have more money, to experience growth, promotion, success and most especially new jobs. Will like to be a part of the people that will make the latter possible.

So to start with, here are few tips you must take very seriously this new year to get a job:

Social Media:
a) Own a LinkedIn profile. www.linkedin.com
b) Have a working number on your profile and yes on your CV.
c) Do an audit on your social media profiles. Update responsible and funny tweets etc and reduce those immature comments you always make.

Contacts:
a) Always stay with your phone. The world is moving towards conducting phone interviews more. This is to recognize confidence over the phone and your understanding of the job but more importantly to sieve the too many applications they got.
b) Have a professional email. For example ronke.yusuf@yahoo.com
c) If possible, put an alternative phone line on your profile or CV. I am sure you understand the network challenges in Nigeria.

Resume/ CV/ Application:
a) Employ the service of a professional CV writer. You can reach the handle Jarus, you can use jobberman.
b) If you are not good with applications, get a mentor to help develop your writing skills. You will need this on the job.
c) Ensure your CV contains what skills and experience you have. Do not put what you do not know.
d) Make sure your CV does not exceed two pages if you can.
e) Do not be tempted to send random applications to numerous companies. Send tailored applications.

Job websites:
a) Be on the lookout. A host of companies will be recruiting starting from today.
b) Make use of Nairaland job vacancies. I myself have benefited from this section greatly.
c) While you should visit job websites, be weary of the vacancies you see there. If you doubt a vacancy, come over here and ask. Better still create a thread or search on Google. Google is a good friend.

NB: The traditional methods of getting jobs is fast eroding. You have to be smart and strategic nowadays to get a job. You do not necessarily have to know someone who know someone. Put on your thinking caps. This is 2016, grow with the times.

Please I need a little clarification.
I have been applying for jobs since January but haven't received a single interview invite. Very impressive resume confirmed by some top résumé writing companies with excellent academic results. For the records I have first Class for my first degree and finished my M.Sc late last year with distinction.
But I have been applying online only.
Now someone just advised me to distribute my hardcopy CV to companies. Please I want to know if this still works.
Expecting your kind response.

Two things only, for me, could be accountable:

1) The jobs you apply for do not match your qualifications in terms of the courses you studied in your first and second degree.
2) Your grades and degrees are higher than the positions you have been applying for.

By extension, it could be that your resume has been filed and you may just start getting those invitations soon.

Suggestions:

1) Understand the kind of job you are looking for and tailor your resume to match those jobs and each company you are targeting.
2) Visit those companies and drop your resume addressing it to the Human Resources Manager using an A4 sized envelope. Remember to include a very powerful application letter. Don't stress yourself by walking around, just target particular companies.
3) Use LinkedIn, it's a very powerful tool. You have great qualifications, leverage on it by building a network with people in your line of career path or discipline. There are numerous groups you could join there.
4) Keep applying online. Not as one without direction but as one with purpose.

And yes! Walking up to companies does work.
My humble suggestions.

Lastly, but more importantly, pray. It's the key. God is the one who lifteth up. Promotion comes not from the east, west, north and south but from above.

He can also try informal networking opportunities.

Send your CV to friends, senior friends, seniors in your school who are working, just anyone you know that works somewhere.

Politely ask them to help drop (electronic copy of) your CV to their HRs. CVs submitted internally stand higher chance as the internal person knows the right place to drop it in the organization, plus informal follow up.

All these said, you don't need to panic. It happens. I have first class friends that also spent a year or more at home post-NYSC but they're doing well today.

Re: Smart & Simple Ways To Get A Job In Modern Times by nmreports(op): 6:54pm On May 29, 2016
Quick Tip:

There are things you do not need to do. For example;

# watching the new season of a Netflix drama.
# 44 hours per week watching television (This is the average amount of time you use watching television).
# The time spent playing the game Candy Crush.
# Or spending time stalking that girl on Facebook.

It does not seem to be good. It does not help you grow.

So what should you do?
Read more, improve your knowledge. Grow, think, create. Get involved in activities that will push you closer to your goals.
This way you are preparing adequately for success when it arrives.

Thank you for the tips .....I just started serving, infact am resuming on Tuesday at my PPA.

I've been thinking, should I start applying for jobs now ( i.e immediately) or I should wait a bit because honestly I don't think am prepared yet.

I actually want to start applying by September what do you think?

Start applying 2 months to the end of your service. Very better that way.
You can even inform any potential employer if they need you to resume urgently that you will soon complete service.
If you start now it doesn't make sense.
Except of course you plan to serve there.

Imagine how developmental this thread is to the society - but it took 441 days for it to make Front Page. It's really appalling; if it was "Ini Edo Steps Out In Gorgeous Outfit" or "Tonto Dike Gave Birth To Her Child", before you say Jack Robinson, it would be on the Front Page of this forum.

The main haecceity of a forum of this calibre should be to educate and develop people thereby meeting societal needs and moral standards of today's world. There is an impending diminish on our moral values everywhere in the world right now. And sadly, it is rapidly creeping in to this forum.

Way to go, Nairaland. huh
