Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has attributed the backwardness of the state to sin, saying the people have abandoned God. The Governor was speaking at an interdenominational service to mark the end of a two-week fasting and prayer, held today at the IBB Square, Makurdi. He said the people of the state were involved in “sins of wickedness, slander, disobedience, heavy involvement in occult, jealousy, pride, violence, disunity, immorality, shedding of innocent blood, robbery, kidnapping, corruption, arrogance, drunkenness and other vices”. According to Ortom, God showed him the sins of Benue people after which he decided to organize a prayer and fasting, to dedicate the state to God and avert imminent doom. ” When God opened my eyes to see the sins of Benue, I was greatly distressed. I then decided it was better to bring all these before God. God has compassion over all that he has created. ” God showed me an example of the state of Israel that was destroyed because of sin and how he sent his servant Nehemiah to reconstruct the collapsing walls. ” Then God said to me, “if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.” ” As your Governor and leader, God has made me to realize the problem of Benue and its people. We have abandoned God, we have gone after other gods. We have abandoned the truth of his words. We have abandoned his path and we are all eager to embrace evil ways.” He said. Consequently, Governor Ortom lay down on the alter and offered prayers to cleanse and dedicate the state to God. The event was well attended by top government officials and politicians from the state which included the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu, and Senators George Akume and Barnabas Gemade.

That governor is a big fraud, committing all forms of economic/financial atrocities while trying to pass himself off as a saintly man of God.

I'm ashamed of him.
